I don't see any errors here corresponding to the unsupported method

Are these logs from the node "node3.test.nu"?

However, this error is unrelated to adding the storage domain.
Typically, this unsupported method error is returned from vdsm when
vdsm-gluster is not installed on the node.

You could try running the following on node3.test.nu
#rge

Gluster needs selinux to be in permissive mode. Could you change this

Re: [ovirt-users] Mount crashed vm image.

2014-08-12 Thread Grant Pasley

thank you maor for your feedback,

i will most certainly try your suggestion wrt attaching disk to another
vm, i have googled a bit though on the process to do this and don't seem
to be having much success.
does anyone know where i can find the documentation for this process?
unfortunately i did not get around to making a snapshot before the
system crashed, so my only hope of retrieving the

data is to attach and access the image from another vm.

thanks,

grant.

Hi all

i migrated a win 2008 server image from kvm to ovirt about a month back,
it has been running fine until yesterday when is crashed and wouldn't
restart.

Did you created snapshots which you can recover from?

i have tried booting from cd image and repairing the image and tried redoing
the boot
sectors but nothing seems to be working at this stage. my question is
can i somehow mount
this image as a partition or is there any other way to access the data
on the image without the image being up and running so that i can
retrieve the data on it?
i have installed a new windows vm and re-installed the required apps,
but need to get the user data from the crashed image now?

You can try to detach the disk from the VM and attach it to another VM.

rgds,

grant.

[ovirt-users] Ovirt SSL Question

2014-08-12 Thread Punit Dambiwal
Hi All,

I have one question regarding the SSL settings in Ovirtlet me explain
my environment first :-

1. Ovirt engine :- mgmt.3linux.com
2. Standalone websocket proxy :- web-proxy.3linux.com
3. Our Own Portal :- portal.3linux.com

We have the above architecture...we fetch the VM console from the websocket
proxy to our own portal through APIbecause still we are using
selfsigned certificate...we need to trust the certificate every
time, whenever we open the VM console... (https://:)

When we initiate the VM console through our own web portal the url (
https://portal.3linux.com/content/ovirt/noVNC/vm-console.php?id=6e0caf73-ae7d-493e-a51d-ecc32f507f00),if
we accept the SSL certificate with https://:
then it will open as expected but if we didn't accept the certificate
manually...then it through failed to connect:1006 error...

We don't want that every time end user will accept the certificate
manually...as our link to open VM console is different then webproxy

Now we want to replace the self signed certificate with valid SSLcan
any one tell me where we need to put the certificates and how to generate
the CSR for them and how many SSL we need to purchase to make this thing
workable without accepting the certificate everytime

Thanks,
Punit

No problem, let me just reiterate that except for the patch I already +1-ed,
it was a very initial review, I just need a bit of time to fully grok them.

More deep review will come ASAP.

This is very bad bug, but not a vdsm regression. It is broken in vdsm 3.4
and it will be still broken in vdsm 3.5, since getting fixes from qemu/kvm/lvm
takes lot of time.

There are several patches for master (6) that must be merged and
backported to 3.5. Thanks Francesco for your reviews (I will repost
the series this afternoon for followup review). I would appreciate a
look by those I've included as reviewers (you received a separate

These needn't block oVirt 3.5. The majority of low level
functionality is provided by qemu-2.1 and libvirt-1.2.8 which are both
hitting the virt-preview repo now (or are already there). There are
still some outstanding bugs (1041569, and 1102881) and these should
appear in the next releases of qemu and libvirt (first week of Sept
I'm told). The above two bugs should only impact block storage
domains.

Analysis doesn't show yet a bug on VDSM, which seems to behave correctly
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1127460#c6
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1127460#c7

NEEDINFO requests to QEMU and LVM maintainers are been sent, no answer yet.

Since this was marked as blocker, I'll invest more time on this and will look
for a workaround,
if possible, within the end of the week.

Bests,

We already have nagios alerts, but the storage has been over 90% for a
few monts already, and it gets filled up quite fast so there's no time
to react when that happens. We are finishing up the setup on PHX lab
that will allow us to migrate some services there and liberate more
space and scale properly.

Hi,

I'm trying to test glusterfs on a couple of Centos 7 ovirt nodes with ovirt
3.5rc1.

I've enabled glusterfs service for the cluster, created a xfs data partition with mount
point, installed "vdsm-gluster" rpm and started glusterfsd. I also cleared the
firewall rules.

When I try to add the storage domain, I get the following error

Re: [ovirt-users] Network Address Change

2014-08-12 Thread Paul.LKW

Hi Fabian:
Yes, it is my main concern will the Engine still recognise the node(s)
as there is no mechanism to knowlege the Engine the change when I change
the well known ifcfg-... files, and I think it will not detect the
change automatically
In my case it is just 30 more VMs and I could reinstall the host of
course but when it is few hundure VMs there should ne great issue using
oVIrt. However I have to try as just 3 days remaining for the data
center decommission.

Hi All:
To be honest I do not see any config file in the host node
/etc/ovirt-node inside, so even I put in the global maintenance mode I
still don't know how to change the host to the new IP address.

Hey Paul,

if you are using oVirt Node (btw what version are you using?), then there are a
couple of files, there is
/etc/default/ovirt

and the well known ifcfg files:
/etc/sysconfig/netwprk-scripts/ifcfg-*

And some other paths which are handled by vdsm.

And vdsm is actually managing the network configuration when a Node is
registered, that means, it can be that any changes to the configuration files
get overwritten by vdsm again.

Maybe Toni can say something about this.

And I am also not sure if Engine will still recognize a Node, when you change
the IP of the Node, without letting the Engine know about that.

Sandro, do you know how you can tell Engine that the IP of a Node changed?

Greetings
fabian

Hi All:
I just has a case, I need to change the oVirt host and engine IP address
due to data center decommission I checked in the hosted-engine host there
are
some files I could change ;

in ovirt-hosted-engine/hosted-engine.conf
ca_subject="O=simple.com, CN=1.2.3.4"
gateway=1.2.3.254

and of course I need to change the ovirtmgmt interface IP too, I think
just change the above line could do the tick, but where could I change
the
other host IP in the cluster ?
I think I have to be lost all the host as once changed the hosted-engine
host IP as it is in diff. sub net.
Does there any command line tools could do that or someone has such
experience could share?

Well, I think you can move the hosts to global maintenance, shutdown the
hosted engine vm, move the first host and the vm to the new network.
After that you should be able to move the other hosts to the new network.
When finished you can exit global maintenance.

Never tested such scenario so if any other can provide more info and maybe
create a wiki page it would be nice.
Not sure about what happen with the certificates if they've been generated
using ip address instead of FQDN, probably they won't be valid anymore
after the network change.

Re: [ovirt-users] puppet dependency conflict catch-22

2014-08-12 Thread Jorick Astrego
Just for someone's reference, I modified my puppet install to remove the
puppetlabs repo before ovirt install. That way things don't break along
the chain.

Hi,

I have deployed my Centos 7 ovirt node through puppet, but now I have

You could try using --skip-broken to work around the problem
You could try running: rpm -Va --nofiles --nodigest

I already have puppet 3.6.2 deployed through puppetlabs repo, but in
the ovirt 3.5 epel it's listed in the includepkgs

[ovirt-3.5-epel]
name=Extra Packages for Enterprise Linux 7 - $basearch

failovermethod=priority
enabled=1

includepkgs=epel-release,puppet,python-uinput,python-lockfile,python-cpopen,python-ordereddict,python-pthreading,python-inotify,python-argparse,novnc,python-ply,python-kitchen,python-daemon,python-websockify,livecd-tools,spice-html5,mom,python-IPy,python-ioprocess,python-paramiko

How do you guys think it's the easiest to do an automatic deployment?
Puppet is not available in the base repo and only in EPEL or
puppetlabs repo. But if I install either one, I get a dependency
conflict after installing ovirt-release-11.0.2-1.noarch and my puppet
agent won't finish.

Kind regards,

So, the best option is to install a basic OS (for me, a Debian one),

oVirt is not distro-agnostic at all.
It is very specificaly designed in the redhat universe (-> rhel, centos,
fedora).
Love yourself, try it on CentOS.

though if you can help make it better on debian, we'd welcome the help.

[ovirt-users] method "glusterVolumesList" is not supported (Failed with error VDS_NETWORK_ERROR and code 5022)

2014-08-12 Thread Jorick Astrego

Hi,

I'm trying to test glusterfs on a couple of Centos 7 ovirt nodes with
ovirt 3.5rc1.

I've enabled glusterfs service for the cluster, created a xfs data
partition with mount point, installed "vdsm-gluster" rpm and started
glusterfsd. I also cleared the firewall rules.

When I try to add the storage domain, I get the following error

[ovirt-users] puppet dependency conflict catch-22

2014-08-12 Thread Jorick Astrego

Hi,

I have deployed my Centos 7 ovirt node through puppet, but now I have a
conflicting puppet between ovirt 3.5 epel and puppetlabs repo:

---> Package puppet.noarch 0:3.6.2-2.el7 will be an update
--> Processing Dependency: rubygem(rgen) for package:
   puppet-3.6.2-2.el7.noarch
   --> Finished Dependency Resolution
   Error: Package: puppet-3.6.2-2.el7.noarch (ovirt-3.5-epel)
   Requires: rubygem(rgen)
You could try using --skip-broken to work around the problem
You could try running: rpm -Va --nofiles --nodigest

I already have puppet 3.6.2 deployed through puppetlabs repo, but in the
ovirt 3.5 epel it's listed in the includepkgs

   [ovirt-3.5-epel]
   name=Extra Packages for Enterprise Linux 7 - $basearch
   #baseurl=http://download.fedoraproject.org/pub/epel/beta/7/$basearch
   #baseurl=http://ftp.nluug.nl/pub/os/Linux/distr/fedora-epel/beta/7/x86_64

mirrorlist=https://mirrors.fedoraproject.org/metalink?repo=epel-7&arch=$basearch
   failovermethod=priority
   enabled=1

includepkgs=epel-release,puppet,python-uinput,python-lockfile,python-cpopen,python-ordereddict,python-pthreading,python-inotify,python-argparse,novnc,python-ply,python-kitchen,python-daemon,python-websockify,livecd-tools,spice-html5,mom,python-IPy,python-ioprocess,python-paramiko

How do you guys think it's the easiest to do an automatic deployment?
Puppet is not available in the base repo and only in EPEL or puppetlabs
repo. But if I install either one, I get a dependency conflict after
installing ovirt-release-11.0.2-1.noarch and my puppet agent won't finish.

oVirt is not distro-agnostic at all.
It is very specificaly designed in the redhat universe (-> rhel, centos,
fedora).

Love yourself, try it on CentOS.

Hi all

i migrated a win 2008 server image from kvm to ovirt about a month back,
it has been running fine until yesterday when is crashed and wouldn't

First check the image integrity by running "qemu-img check "
command
against it. "qemu-img" also has option to correct the corruption if
there is any.

You can use "*libguestfs"* to access data from virtual machine (VM) disk
images.

Not yet, and I don't know if it is on the roadmap.
you could maybe create your own, it's basically
 this workflow:
 install $distro
 throw out all unneeded stuff
 install virt stuff (libvirt+vdsm)
 apply hardening (selinux etc)
 create iso

I go with centos minimal and customize
 that myself, works really well.

I don't know if vdsm is already complete
platform independent (afaik it should be).

the initial development was all on fedora
and el6, so this is where it runs best atm.

but I know for sure there are plans to
 make it distribution agnostic, but
 I don't know if this includes a pre-created
iso for ovirt-node based on debian or gentoo.

maybe fabian can shed some light on the
 future plans.

Hey Paul,

if you are using oVirt Node (btw what version are you using?), then there are a
couple of files, there is
/etc/default/ovirt

and the well known ifcfg files:
/etc/sysconfig/netwprk-scripts/ifcfg-*

And some other paths which are handled by vdsm.

And vdsm is actually managing the network configuration when a Node is
registered, that means, it can be that any changes to the configuration files
get overwritten by vdsm again.

Maybe Toni can say something about this.

And I am also not sure if Engine will still recognize a Node, when you change
the IP of the Node, without letting the Engine know about that.

Sandro, do you know how you can tell Engine that the IP of a Node changed?

Greetings
fabian

It's not in 3.5 features so it will probably land in 3.6.
You can install oVirt Hosted Engine on centos 7 host and use centos 6.5 for the
engine VM only.
