[ovirt-users] ovirt 3.5 rc2 and iscsi error with chap enabled during discovery

2014-09-12 Thread Gianluca Cecchi
Hello,
trying to configure iSCSI storage domain.

I have configured a CentOS 6.5 server as sw iSCSI target with chap
authentication.
port 3260 is open for tcp connections.
I have an oVirt host that is CentOS 6.5 and when trying to discover targets
I get in /var/log/messages

Sep 12 23:50:19 ovnode04 vdsm jsonrpc.JsonRpcServer ERROR Internal server

screenshot that returns no new devices found is here:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/0BwoPbcrMv8mvbVlycnJCTWJtNXc/edit?usp=sharing

BTW: chap user and password input fields could be wider, so that the whole
words input can seen on the screen. there is plenty of space... Also
password field should not be in clear text as it is now

The approach to successfully connect the LUN seems to be:
1) make discovery but with chap unchecked
2) the target then shows up
see
https://drive.google.com/file/d/0BwoPbcrMv8mvb1pET3VNMWJuRUk/edit?usp=sharing
3) now check the box for chap authentication and select login all
you now get the luns
https://drive.google.com/file/d/0BwoPbcrMv8mveExRMzN1Z0RtR1k/edit?usp=sharing
4) then select the lun(s) desired and select OK

is this correct? In case I think it should be disabled the chap option
during discovery phase...
otherwise I have not configured correctly my iscsi target perhaps.

Hi Maurice,

What's the oVirt environment that you were running? 3.3, 3.4, 3.5?
When you say interact, is it about to start the VM that are you asking?
Could you please clarify? Have you tried the Maor's suggestion?

For now, I would say to start with:

Re: [ovirt-users] no console connections

2014-09-12 Thread Jim Kinney
solved.

Not an ovirt issue at all. My network has dual ports, one internal LAN the
other is on switches not managed by me. Someone had disabled the port that
was used by the host I was trying to connect to.

It's all good now. Getting some dev users setup to launch their own VMs for
crash-n-burn tests. Looking forward to 3.5!

at one end you lose at the other. It's like feeding a dog on his own tail.

[ovirt-users] VDSM and iSCSI issue due to ulimits

2014-09-12 Thread Trey Dockendorf
Today I got an alert from monitoring systems that my EL7 MariaDB VM
was down. I looked in oVirt and it showed the VM as "paused due to
storage I/O problem". That VM is the only one currently attached to
disks that are on an iSCSI storage domain. That iSCSI storage domain
uses iSER (over DDR Infiniband).

My instance is made up of two ovirt nodes, both with CentOS 6.5
running oVirt 3.4.3. The host that was running this VM has 16 running
VMs total.

I looked at the vdsm logs for the hypervisor and found log entries
with "No free file handlers in pool". Below are logs.

I quick "google" showed old posts about it being a ulimit problem.

Right now after resuming the paused VM I see this on the VDSM server

# lsof -u vdsm | wc -l
2377
# sudo -H -u vdsm -s ulimit -a
core file size (blocks, -c) 0
data seg size (kbytes, -d) unlimited
scheduling priority (-e) 0
file size (blocks, -f) unlimited
pending signals (-i) 1032295
max locked memory (kbytes, -l) 64
max memory size (kbytes, -m) unlimited
open files (-n) 12288
pipe size(512 bytes, -p) 8
POSIX message queues (bytes, -q) 819200
real-time priority (-r) 0
stack size (kbytes, -s) 10240
cpu time (seconds, -t) unlimited
max user processes (-u) 4096
virtual memory (kbytes, -v) unlimited
file locks (-x) unlimited

If the issue was due to number of open files, is it the case that if
the only VM using the iSCSI storage domain was paused, the file
descriptors were flushed?

How do I go about finding out the cause of this, so I can prevent
future issues? Is the fix to just increase the "nofile" ulimit for
vdsm in /etc/security/limits.d/99-vdsm.conf?

Thanks,
- Trey

we're currently contemplating adding the ceph support via Cinder,
which would simplify adding other technologies/plugins later.

But right now is there any chance to already use Ceph if configuring
CephFS (http://ceph.com/docs/v0.67.9/cephfs/): a POSIX-compliant
filesystem that uses a Ceph Storage Cluster to store its data.

and
PosixFS in oVirt (http://www.ovirt.org/Features/PosixFSConnection)

Dunno if CephFS efforts will be sustainable against Glusterfs...
I'm not sure if a posix fs is the best provider for blocks.
I would be pleased to have a direct form to create a Ceph pool for a
datacenter, then provide librbd path for the guests (or only their size).

what limitations would one have dong that?

+1!

I really would like to see a fast working way to create, manage
and use ceph in ovirt. I don't know if implementation through
openstack component is enough, because you will need more components
then (keystone for auth e.g.).

we're currently contemplating adding the ceph support via Cinder,
which would simplify adding other technologies/plugins later.

I would really like to see ceph support through libvirtd.
Since cephfs is FAR from stable and having an NFS server in the middle
really f*cks up performance, ceph is simply not an option right now. The
main reason we have to move away from ovirt, can't wait to get back to
ovirt!

[ovirt-users] Free Memory In Hosts

2014-09-12 Thread Mohyedeen Nazzal
Hi All,
I have noticed that there is a huge difference between memory reading
obtained from top or free commands, and values displayed on ovirt engine.
"Host "

Example:
Engine Version : *ovirt-engine-3.4.3-1.el6.noarch*
*OS: Centos 6.5_x86_64*

*Used Memory:*
*from free:*
[root@oVirt ~]# free
  total used free sharedbuffers
cached
Mem: 65890412 65609864 280548 0 305408 53759412

from Egnine Webpage:

only 12G is being used.

Is there an explanation for this ?

Please note this is the same on all previous version, the values matches
only after restart of the host then free memory start to vanish by time !

Thanks,
Mohyedeen.

Bugger, spoke to soon…. One host sees the LUNs the other doesn’t. Same builds

So, I am thinking maybe different firmware levels on these cards and the first
one for IBM systems has different firmware? As it seems to be throwing more
errors. Should I try to add the firmware? And if so I know it goes in
/lib/firmware but then the boot image needs to be updated I think and I don’t
know how to do that… or am I barking up the wrong tree.

Thanks again for the help.

What is the rejection message ? Perhaps it is a mac address which is already
in use by other vm ?

Please note that currently the API doesn't support specifying network interfaces
at vm creation [1], only after the vm is created, the user can
add/update/delete vm network
interfaces.

So could you explain the scenario which lead to the rejection ?

Hi,

This morning, I had to provision one more VM, using the same script as
usual.

This script obviously creates a VM, *then* adds a NIC attached to this VM.

What I saw some days ago was that I had troubles creating the nic. The
exact error msg is forgotten, but it was related to MAC issues.
In the MAC pool range, the first half part is related to Qumranet, the
original company that created oVirt. The second half is free for users
to change (and is maybe drawn randomly on install ?)

In a hurry, I change a bit in the first part, to be absolutely sure I
could not hit a MAC conflict (being outside the macpoolrange).

And the creation failed.

This morning, I tried the same, and it succeed.
Damn, I thought I cought a bug, but it escaped.

Hi,

Sorry, I got waylaid at the end of yesterday - catching up... (sorry for
length of thread now as well, but would like to get to the bottom of this)

Have seen posts about ovirt-node... I personally like the idea and hope that it
continues to develop. Having to load a Linux distro up and then put ovirt
hypervisor on it is more work and then you need to worry about upgrading the
linux distro and ovirt and suddenly ovirt doesn't run on the distro you have
and you start over. IMHO anyway.

All of the LUN names are listed in /dev/mapper

/etc/multipath.conf is thus

But on the multipath -ll round robin is enabled...

I can't see how the firmware missing can be a problem if all my disks are
appearing on node. Some cards don't need to be flashed, they can be if needed
but if my LUNs are appearing, then I assume it is working.

Sorry, I am very new to node and not much experience with FC under Linux, so
trying to get up to speed on commands...

Which ovirt am Iusing? Not sure what you want back, uname -a yields
2.6.32-431.3.1.el6.x86_6

The iso I used is ovirt-node-iso-3.4-20140423.0.el6.iso from the
releases/stable/iso folder - I am fairly sure, there are two ISOs there.
Unfortunately I am not in the office today and can't get to the desktop where I
burned the ISOs from...

Thanks
Bill

Ah, I mixed you an Bill up in the thread.

Well, we did some multipath changes lately. Let#s see what Bill says:

Bill,
what node are you using?
What does multipath -l say?
How does /dev/mapper/* and /dev/multipath.conf look like?

And is the disk appearing on Node and/or Engine?

Thanks!
