I can confirn that I've verified on a 3.5rc2 oVirt installation the setting
is persistent across logout and restart of browser

It you enable advanced options for a VM, you get this setting for other VMs
too and this setting is preserved upon logout and also restart of browser
session.
The same if you select "Hide advanced options" coming from a previously
Advanced setting.

On another installation with 3.4.1 the default setting is that you have
always to explicitly enable advanced options, also in the same session for
other VMs after enabling it for one of them.

Once you install virt-viewer in Windows, it should be associated
with .vv files. When you click Console then, you should be offered
with .vv file download, let it open with virt-viewer (should work
out-of-the-box) and voilà, you should see your console.

If you're not offered with .vv file for download, try choosing "Native
client" method in Console options (and of course if you have spice
console selected in VM options)

so,

Firewall is not involved unless you restrict outbound connections as

again, virt-manager is not the thingy you want, virt-viewer is.

Odds are your machine you are trying to connect with does not have the fully
qualified domain name of the host it is trying to connect to. If you don't have
DNS setup for it you should be able to add it to your hosts file (we recommend
DNS though). If that is not the problem you can simply download the .vv and
manually start the viewer with a debug flag, and it will tell you in detail
what the problem is.

remote-viewer xxx.vv --debug

Note there is a time limit on how long the ticket is active, if I recall
correctly its 120 seconds, so be fast when you do it.

Re: [ovirt-users] console spice questions

2014-09-19 Thread Bill Dossett
Thanks David, I appreciate the help. I installed virt-manager on my
virt-engine. And I have installed virt-viewer on my workstation... I am still
not getting a console though. I don't quite understand if I have to do anything
further.. I have checked the faq and looked at the screen shots, but I am not
much the wiser... is there any more detail I can read on installing and getting
this running? I am assuming I connect to virt-engine for this - should the
console button in the virt-engine bring up the remote viewer, or do I have to
start the remote view separately? I turned the firewall off to make sure that
isn't the problem. It appears its trying fire virt-manager up on to a remote x
display I guess, but I just get "unable to connect to the graphic server
spice://ovirt.pbi.global.pvt:5900 " Any further advice on getting this running
would be greatly appreciated.

Bill

Hi Bill,

Yes, the document is already dated. Lately, you don't have to go through the
hoops needed to make spice-x work. Even if you can get it, it will only work
for you in IE < 11. You should instead just install virt-viewer [1] and the
consoles should Just Work for you using the Natice Client (.vv file) method.

Hi,

I'm reading the Networking part for EL7 host and see puppet doesn't
support masking/unmasking services yet:

https://tickets.puppetlabs.com/browse/PUP-1253

As we're using The Foreman to deploy the hosts this would be nice.

I have lots of ways to execute the "systemctl mask" command off course,
but can people please help by voting for it?

It's not on their radar as something important it appears.

Kind regards,

[ovirt-users] [QE][ACTION REQUIRED] oVirt 3.5.0 status

2014-09-19 Thread Sandro Bonazzola
Hi,
We are going to start composing oVirt 3.5.0 GA (or RC3, depending on Monday
morning Go / No go Meeting decisions) on Monday 2014-09-22.

Maintainers:
- Please be sure that 3.5 snapshot satisfy release criteria[9]
- Please be sure that no pending patches are going to block the release
- If any patch must block the GA release please raise the issue as soon as
possible.
- If any packages need a rebase please raise the issue as soon as possible.
- Be aware that packages that doesn't need a rebase must be re-built with final
release versioning from the RC2 tag.

The bug tracker [1] shows the following proposed blockers to be reviewed:

subsubprocess
1142256 integration NEW remote engine-reports-setup does not write conf
file to allow accessing reports from engine

And the following dependencies still open:
Bug 1041569 - [NFR] libvirt: Returning the watermark for all the images opened
for writing

The following bugs are keyworded as Regression and not marked as blockers[10]

Bug ID Whiteboard Status Summary

1138314 virtNEW Fail to start vm with payload.

Feature freeze is now effective, and branch has been created.
All new patches must be backported to 3.5 branch too.
Features completed are marked in green on Features Status Table [2]

There are still 86 bugs [3] targeted to 3.5.0.
Excluding node and documentation bugs we still have 62 bugs [4] targeted to
3.5.0.

Maintainers / Assignee:
- Please ensure that completed features are marked in green on Features Status
Table [2]
- If you find a blocker bug please remember to add it to the tracker [1]
- Please fill release notes, the page has been created here [6]
- Please review results from Third Test Day on the etherpad [7] and on the
mailing lists
- Please update the target to 3.5.1 or later for bugs that won't be in 3.5.0:
it will ease gathering the blocking bugs for next releases.

[ovirt-users] console spice questions

2014-09-19 Thread Bill Dossett
Hi

After setting up an ovirt cluster with 4 hosts and getting my networking and
vlans all connected I'm pretty impressed with ovirt. I am however not too
impressed with trying to actually get a console into a VM. I'm not sure why
this isn't included in the ovirt engine to begin with as console access to
actually configure a VM to make templates of seems a pretty basic tenant of
virtualisation.

Anyway, I am following the guide
http://www.ovirt.org/How_to_Connect_to_SPICE_Console_With_Portal and trying to
download spice.cab to follow the rather long procedure to install, however the
link on that page gives a 404 page not found error. Could someone point me to
the actual download? Is this document perhaps outdated and I am following the
wrong path?

Thanks

I'd recommend cloud-init for configuration-data.
I have my own custom scripts as most solutions available clean not
everything up you might want to have cleaned (logs, ssh keys, etc).

[ovirt-users] OVIRT-3.5-TEST-DAY-3: CPU SLA for capping

2014-09-19 Thread Martin Perina
Hi,

I tested the support to limit CPU utilization of hosts. Setting it up
in the GUI worked correctly, but for running VM settings are ignored.
I used XMLRPC protocol to avoid [1]. To simulate VM CPU utilization
I used stress tool [2].

Testing steps:

1. Create a VM with the same number of CPUs as Host
2. Create CPU type QoS in DC and set the limit to desired value
3. In Cluster create new CPU profile with above QoS and remove the default CPU
profile
4. Start the VM and execute (N is a number of CPUs in VM)
   stress --cpu N
5. Connect to Host and execute
   sar -u 1 10

No matter what the limit was set to (1, 50, 100), host CPUs were always
utilized to 100%.
So I create bug to cover this [3].
