It should do that automatically. It might take a few seconds until the HA
broker has decided which host it should run on, but it should start by itself.

Re: [ovirt-users] Communication errors between engine and nodes?

2015-03-16 Thread Piotr Kliczewski
Unfortunately log entries that you copied give me almost no
information about nature of your issue.
There are few things that we can do to understand what is going on
with your setup.

Heartbeat functionality provides means to detect whether we still have
connection with a host. By default
heartbeat timeout is set to 10 seconds but it can be modified by
setting vdsHeartbeatInSeconds.

In general whenever there are no incoming responses nor heartbeat
frame is not received engine will invalidate
the connection and will attempt to recover. If reconnection was
successful you want see any other consequences
of loosing single heartbeat. I would explore stability of your network
so if the network is busy or you loose network
packets from time to time this kind of entries in the log are
expected. You can increase heatbeat value and see
whether it will work better for your env.

If you confirm that your network is stable we could explore the issue
further by setting debug level logging for your
engine to understand exactly how the messages are processes by a host
and when we receive responses.

On Mon, Mar 16, 2015 at 11:34 AM, Roel de Rooy rder...@motto.nl wrote:

VM's still continue to work correctly and the storage domains (NFS shares)

Contacted our network engineer to see if he could see a load increase on our
network, or could see any latency, errors, etc.
Unfortunately he could not detect anything yet (he is still investigating
 this).

Re: [ovirt-users] [ovirt-devel] oVirt node, hosted-engine, oVirt appliance and cloud-init

 Hi

First of all I think cloud-init is optional so user can select if use it or
 not.
So if somebody wants to deploy hosted engine the hard way by installing it on
OS , its his choice allowed too.

in this case you can require the user to pre-install the cloud-init rpm or use
a cloud-ready images
we use this approach for neutron appliance, though, to be fair…last time I
tried it on the latest image cloud-init just doesn't work:) it's not really a
rock-solid thingie…but in normal conditions it seems to work, more or less.

virt-sysprep is another way, not requiring and guest-side cooperation

Thanks,
michal

For our appliance I dont think we need anything except for root password.
Last option is in case somebody have some complicated net config he needs to
implement in the engine VM on the first run
we should allow him the option to provide the cloud-init iso by himself and
he can define all he wants there.

Subject: oVirt node, hosted-engine, oVirt appliance and cloud-init

 Hi all,
cloud-init is a powerful tool to configure from outside a cloud
instance or an appliance as in our scenario.

Deploying the engine as an appliance is indeed a good way to speed up
and make easier the hosted-engine deployment: you don't need to
install an OS on the engine virtual machine and than install the
engine and so on but you could simply run a ready to use oVirt
engine appliance. But you still need to configure it and so
cloud-init support within hosted-engine is a reasonable way to
 complement it.

Then we could also integrate it with oVirt node to let the user input
the required info from node TUI in order to have an almost
unattended hosted-engine setup on oVirt node using an engine
 appliance with cloud-init.

The idea is to collect the required information interactively from
hosted-engine setup or from node TUI (passing them to hosted-engine
setup via an answer file) and pass them to the appliance via
 cloud-init using a no-cloud datasource.

So now the question is what do you really want to configure via
 cloud-init?
It's just to define what we want in order to be more focused on user
 needs:
for instance we could configure engine VM instance hostname, we could
set the root password, we could create other users, we could upload
ssh private keys, we could run a command on the first boot and so
 on.
So, if you have any ideas or requirement about that it's the right
 time for it.

 thanks,
 Simone

Grep the function name under the setup directory, its in one of the python

Re: [ovirt-users] ipv6 export domain

2015-03-16 Thread Nathanaël Blanchet

Hi Dan,

I have 15 ovirt hosts running vdsm, and no problem with el6 ones.
However, all of my el7 hosts (freshly installed because provided with no
OS) meet this issue.
I don't need ipv6 for the moment (maybe in 10 years :)), so the best way
is to deactivate it.
As I said, the issue seems to come frome ipv6 dns resolution, so it
could be a DNS issue...
Something else : before registering the el7 hosts, I use nmtui so as to
configure a few network feature, like vlan for the upcoming ovirmgmt
network. I didn't take care of the default options in this ui, but maybe
something is related to ipv6 here.

To the best of my knowledge, it was never reported, and certainly was
never fixed.

At the moment, I'm not yet sure that there's something to fix in oVirt:
Like Diid, I wouldn't want to disable ipv6 on all hosts. I'd rather
understand why Nathanaël's ipv6 dns lookup fail, and solve this specific
bug.

Nathanaël, could you provide more details on the underlying bug? Do you
think that it is somehow related to ovirt?

I found the issue, all my el7 hosts were blocking in resolving ipv6
fqdn. I deactivated ipv6 with sysctl -w net.ipv6.conf.all.disable_ipv6 =
1 and all my troubles have gone away (sysctl -w
net.ipv6.conf.all.disable_ipv6 = 1 in sysctl.conf for persistent effect)

Thanks for the report!

I have a question reslating to this : why does el7 hosts deal with ipv6
in ovirt? otopi should deactivate it at the installation step, shouldn't it?

Why?

I didn't try ipv6 with ovirt but a quick search shows it seems to be at least
partially working.

If the above-mentioned blocking was due to default conf/setup, it's probably
a bug.

It says Preparing for maintenance and it stays in that state with no
ending.
Is this operation supposed to be long before being able to detach the
datacenter?

Hi, you need to use v2v for converting the OVF from other virtualization

The format exported by VirtualBox is not compatible wiht oVirt.

 Hi
I want to reinstall a new clean oVirt Manager, and I have a question :
If I install a new manager, do I recover the datacenter and all the Vms
installed in it without any lost of data ?
What is the best practice to do this safely ?
 Thank you for your help
 Alain

Are you planning to install on a new host/VM?

You have basically two alternatives:
A. backup the DB and restore it on the new engine as described here:
http://www.ovirt.org/Ovirt-engine-backup

B. Start from scratch with a new engine on a new DB and re-import existing
storage domains:
http://www.ovirt.org/Features/ImportStorageDomain

Option B involves a lot of manual steps but it could be also used as a disaster
recovery flow when the DB is for any reasons lost or corrupted.

was empty.
This _shouldn't_ happen. We need to check for messages in glusterd log around
the time
/var/ filesystem was full to understand why this happened.

As part of the 'init' process, glusterd resolves identities of daemons
that need to be spawned as part of hosting volumes. The resolution would fail
if the identity of this node changes between a stop and start of glusterd

Glusterd wouldn't start until the point this inconsistency is resolved.

  Can you please help?

To get out of this situation, we need to reconstruct the configuration files
that are 'out of date' with respect to the cluster. This could be tedious but
possible if other nodes didn't have their /var filesystem getting filled.
Each glusterd maintains its copy of volume and peer configuration under
/var/lib/glusterd.

* /var/lib/glusterd/peers - Holds one file for every peer, excluding 'self'.
This implies that with the help of remaining nodes in the cluster, we can
determine this
node's identity. This means we can reconstruct
/var/lib/glusterd/glusterd.info on this
  node.

For other files under /var/lib/glusterd that are empty, we could use the fact
that
each node has a copy of the configuration and it can be used to reconstruct.

Hope that helps,

Unfortunately log entries that you copied give me almost no information about
nature of your issue.
There are few things that we can do to understand what is going on with your
setup.

Heartbeat functionality provides means to detect whether we still have
connection with a host. By default heartbeat timeout is set to 10 seconds but
it can be modified by setting vdsHeartbeatInSeconds.

In general whenever there are no incoming responses nor heartbeat frame is not
received engine will invalidate the connection and will attempt to recover. If
reconnection was successful you want see any other consequences of loosing
single heartbeat. I would explore stability of your network so if the network
is busy or you loose network packets from time to time this kind of entries in
the log are expected. You can increase heatbeat value and see whether it will
work better for your env.

If you confirm that your network is stable we could explore the issue further
by setting debug level logging for your engine to understand exactly how the
messages are processes by a host and when we receive responses.

3.5.1 in my windows vista/7 system with Oracle VirtualBox 4.3.10.

When I create a new virtual machine in VirtualBox,what should I choose for
OS and memory setting for proper booting iso file.

When I tried to boot, the blue screen appears with CentOS written and it
says automaic boot in 10sec,9 sec,8 sec... after 0 sec nothing hapens.
It gets struck there. What might be wrong?

[ovirt-users] Ovirt resilience policy / HA

2015-03-16 Thread Guillaume Penin

Hi all,

I'm building a test ovirt (3.5.1) infrastructure, based on 3 ovirt nodes
and 1 ovirt engine.

Everything runs (almost) fine, but i don't exactly understand the
interaction between resilience policy (Cluster) and HA (VM).

= What I understand, in case of host failure :

- Setting resilience policy to :

- Migrate Virtual Machines = All VMs (HA and non HA) will be
started on another host.
- Migrate only Highly Available Virtual Machines = HA VMs only will
be started on another host.
- Do Not Migrate Virtual Machines = HA and non HA VMs won't be
started on another host.

= In practice :

- No matter what parameter i use in resilience policy, HA VMs only
will be started on another host in case of a host failure.

Is this the expected behaviour ? Am I misunderstanding the way it works
?

Kind regards,

[ovirt-users] Hosted-Engine --vm-status results

2015-03-16 Thread Filipe Guarino
Hello guys
I installed ovirt using hosted-engine procedure with six fisical hosts,
with more than 60 vms, and until now, everythings ok and my environment
works fine.
I decided to use some of my hosts for other tasks, so have been removed
four of my six hosts and put it way from my environment.
After few days, my second host (hosted_engine_2) start to fail. It's
hardware issue. My 10GbE interface stoped. I decide to put my host 4 as a
second hosted_engine_2.
It's works fine. but when I use command hosted-engine --vm-status, its
still returns all of the old members of hosted-engines (1 to 6)
how can i fix it leave only just active active nodes?
See below the output for my hosted-engine --vm-status

 one of our nodes.
Haven't seen the heartbeat exceeded message, but could be that I
 overlooked it within our logs.
At some rare occasions, we also do see Host cannot access the Storage
Domain(s) UNKNOWN attached to the Data Center, within the GUI.

VM's will continue to run normally and most of the times the nodes will be
in UP state again within the same minute.

Will still haven't found the root cause of this issue.
Our engine is CentOS 6.6 based and it's happing with both Centos 6 and
 Fedora 20 nodes.
We are using a LCAP bond of 1Gbit ports for our management network.

As we didn't see any reports about this before, we are currently looking if
something network related is causing this.

I just opened a BZ on it (since it isn't just me):

 https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1201779

My cluster went a couple of days without hitting this (as soon as I
posted to the list of course), but then it happened several times
overnight. Interestingly, one error logged was communicating with the
node currently running my hosted engine. That should rule out external
network (e.g. switch and such) issues, as those packets should not have
 left the physical box.

well, hosted engine complicates things as you'd need to be able to see the
 status of the engine guest
running a standalone engine installation or at least running that hosted
engine on a single node without any other VM may help….

 Thanks,
 michal

Hi, you need to use v2v for converting the OVF from other virtualization
systems to oVirt / RHEV OVF format.
The format exported by VirtualBox is not compatible wiht oVirt.

[ovirt-users] Fedora 21 as Ovirt (hypervisor) host

2015-03-16 Thread Markus Stockhausen
Hi,

back in december there was a discussion about Ovirt on Fedora 21. From
my point of view that was about ovirt engine. So I'm somehow lost if
Fedora 21 is at least supported as hypervisor host. Anyone with deeper
knowledge?

The reason I'm asking:

We are currently on FC20 + virt-preview and enjoy the feature of live
merges. But with BZ1199182 (snapshot deletion bug) I guess we might
need newer libvirt builds. With virt-preview for FC20 no longer in
maintenance we would ony be on the save side with FC21.

Re: [ovirt-users] Reinstalling a new oVirt Manager

2015-03-16 Thread VONDRA Alain
I plan to reinstall on a cloned VM from the original one, I have cleaned the
previous version, and made an engine-setup.
So I have backups from the previous Manager, I can backup to the new one.
But, reading the overt-engine-backup, it seems to be possible only before doing
engine-setup.
Is that right or may I launch a backup after an engine-setup ?
An engine-clean is enough to use engine-backup ?

Thanks

Subject: [ovirt-users] Reinstalling a new oVirt Manager

 Hi
I want to reinstall a new clean oVirt Manager, and I have a question :
If I install a new manager, do I recover the datacenter and all the
Vms installed in it without any lost of data ?
