If you're provisioning the gluster volume from within hosted-engine-setup
it assumed that no gluster configuration was in place.
If gluster is already configured and serving volumes it's assumed that the
HE volumes has been allocated as well.

I don't know - it should have been created and placed under
http://resources.ovirt.org/pub/ovirt-3.5/rpm/el7/noarch/

this either a bug vdsm.spec, or in the way that vdsm was built for
ovirt.

Could you file a bug to have it fixed?

Yaniv, Sandro, could you take a look?

Yaniv has pointed me to the need to backport

 https://gerrit.ovirt.org/#/c/44350/

to the stable branch. I hope this gets in to ovirt-3.5.5.
Until then, you can build the hook on your own system.

Thank you for explaining this.

I will send a separate email about my other issues when I try to use

[ovirt-users] 3.6 issues when using an existing gluster volume for the hosted-engine

2015-08-05 Thread Michael DePaulo
Hi,

I am attempting to setup a Ovirt 3.6 (currently beta 1) on a test
environment with an existing (but empty) gluster volume for the hosted
engine.

I am currently experiencing 4 issues after I having deployed the
hosted-engine appliance VM on only 1 oVirt host:
1. The gluster volume is not added as a storage domain by the end of
the hosted-engine-setup.
2. When I try to import the gluster volume as a storage domain, I get
this error:
Error while executing action Attach Storage Domain: AcquireHostIdFailure
In the logs below, I had not attempted to import it yet though.
3. The hosted engine VM is not listed, although the host is listed and
its number of VMs is listed as "1". (I have seen recent emails/bug
reports about what seems to be the same issue.)
4. The hosted VM shut down automatically after several minutes.

I last ran ovirt-hosted-engine-setup on galactica on 2015-08-03 at
around 22:47 -0400

#4 was probably caused by the fact that during a previous attempt (on
2015-08-02) to setup the hosted-engine, I had
/var/lib/ovirt-hosted-engine-ha/ha.conf containing to
local_maintenance=True. That value was not changed when I ran
ovirt-hosted-engine-setup on 2015-08-03. Today, I ran the
hosted-engine command to disable maintenance, and the hosted-engine VM
started back up. I can access it over https, but the remaining issues
are still present.

More Details:

The 3 Gluster servers:
Server 1: galactica: RHEL 7.1 with Gluster 3.7.3
Server 2: death-star: RHEL 7.1 with Gluster 3.7.3
Server 3: mothership: Fedora 22 with Gluster 3.7.3

I only intend for servers 1 and 2 to be oVirt hosts at this time.

All servers have iptables disabled, are on the same LAN, have SELinux
set to enforcing, and have gluster configured with the hyper-converged
settings listed here:
http://www.ovirt.org/Features/Self_Hosted_Engine_Hyper_Converged_Gluster_Support

I have DNS forward and reverse lookups configured correctly for all 3
machines plus the hosted engine.

The existing gluster volume is "gv-virt", and it has the necessary
"options" for gluster to work with oVirt. Other than the .trashcan
folder, there were no files/folders on it when I ran
ovirt-hosted-engine-setup.

I am able to mount and write to gv-virt via mount.glusterfs.

Note that I have run hosted-engine-setup repeatedly on servers 1 and 2
as I try to resolve these issues. My cleanup between running it may
not have been correct, as exemplified by the local_maintenance
setting. I have been deleting the files on the gluster volume between
running it.

I have the relevant contents of the relevant directories under
/var/log/, /var/lib/, and /etc/ here:
https://drive.google.com/folderview?id=0B2L_OrCln9ShMWprWVlpZVVocGs&usp=sharing

I also put the `gluster volume status gv-virt` output there.

Also, these 2 volumes are currently mounted on galactica:
galactica.depaulo.org:/gv-virt 200G 2.7G
198G 2% /rhev/data-center/mnt/glusterSD/galactica.depaulo.org:_gv-virt
/dev/loop1 2.0G 3.1M
1.9G 1% /rhev/data-center/mnt/_var_lib_ovirt-hosted-engine-setup_tmp2HOqSq

Thanks in advance,

-Mike

[ovirt-users] ovirt+gluster+NFS : storage hicups

2015-08-05 Thread Nicolas Ecarnot

Hi,

I used the two links below to setup a test DC :

http://community.redhat.com/blog/2014/05/ovirt-3-4-glusterized/
http://community.redhat.com/blog/2014/11/up-and-running-with-ovirt-3-5-part-two/

The only thing I did different is I did not usea hosted engine, but I
dedicated a solid server for that.

So I have one engine (CentOS 6.6), and 3 hosts (CentOS 7.0)

As in the doc above, my 3 hosts are publishing 300 Go of replicated
gluster storage, above which ctdb is managing a floating virtual ip that
is used by NFS as the master storage domain.

The last point is that the manager is also presenting a NFS storage I'm
using as an export domain.

It took me some time to plug all this setup as it is a bit more
complicated as my other DC with a real SAN and no gluster, but it is
eventually working (I can run VMs, migrate them...)

I have made many severe tests (from a very dumb user point of view :
unplug/replug the power cable of this server - does ctdb floats the vIP?
does gluster self-heals?, does the VM restart?...)
When precisely looking each layer one by one, all seems to be correct :
ctdb is fast at managing the ip, NFS is OK, gluster seems to
reconstruct, fencing eventually worked with the lanplus workaround, and
so on...

But from times to times, there seem to appear a severe hicup which I
have great difficulties to diagnose.

The messages in the web gui are not very precise, and not consistent:
- some tell about some host having network issues, but I can ping it
from every place it needs to be reached (especially from the SPM and the
manager)
"On host serv-vm-al01, Error: Network error during communication with
the Host"

- some tell that some volume is degraded, when it's not (gluster
commands are showing no issue. Even the oVirt tab about the volumes are
all green)

- "Host serv-vm-al03 cannot access the Storage Domain(s)
attached to the Data Center"

Just by waiting a couple of seconds lead to a self heal with no action.

- Repeated "Detected change in status of brick
serv-vm-al03:/gluster/data/brick of volume data from DOWN to UP."

but absolutely no action is made on this filesystem.

At this time, zero VM is running in this test datacenter, and no action
is made on the hosts. Though, I see some looping errors coming and
going, and I find no way to diagnose.

Amongst the *actions* that I had the idea to use to solve some issues :
- I've found that trying to force the self-healing, and playing with
gluster commands had no effect
- I've found that playing with gluster adviced actions "find /gluster
-exec stat {} \; ..." seem to have no either effect
- I've found that forcing ctdb to move the vIp ("ctdb stop, ctdb
continue") DID SOLVE most of these issue.
I believe that it's not what ctdb is doing that helps, but maybe one of
its shell hook that is cleaning some troubles?

As this setup is complexe, I don't ask anyone a silver bullet, but maybe
you may know which layer is the most fragile, and which one I should
look at more closely?

[ovirt-users] Cannot save network

2015-08-05 Thread Alan Murrell

Hello,

I am running oVirt 3.5.1. I am running into an error when I try to save
my network config:

--- START ---Operation Canceled
Error while executing action:

ovirt-h01:

Network address must be specified when using static ip
--- END ---

I have several logical networks defined, all of which are set with
"bootproto=none"; the only logical network that has a static IP is
"ovirtmgmt"

I have searched the archives and Google and found same issue, but no
resolution to my setup.

Any ideas?

Thanks! :-)

Re: [ovirt-users] Cannot save network

2015-08-05 Thread Alan Murrell
Problem is resolved. I had edited a couple interfaces I wasn't using
yet with static IPs but hadn't created/assigned any logical networks to
them. Doing just that has made the error go away.

Alan

This is a beta release, so you can expect bugs. The upgrade process is
still quite untested on hosted engine 3.6 so I think you'll have to
reinstall for GA.
