Re: [ovirt-users] Error during additional hosted engine deployment
Sorry, I guess I skipped a bit of that. I did run hosted-engine --deploy and it failed while waiting for vdsm to respond and at that point I sent the original email because I wasn't quite certain if it was a supported to migrate from non-hosted engine to a hosted engine which seems to be possible now (thanks for that link). What I had done was leave that engine in place, try to install the hosted engine on a host already part of the original non-hosted engine configuration which seems to be a bad and somewhat futile path. It looks like the best option for me now if I choose to go to a hosted-engine is to use the migration instructions you sent and do that, leave it as it is or stand up a seperate cluster and start from scratch. [ovirt-users] ovirt direct hypervisor access and questions about 4.x
Hi, I've been testing out oVirt 3.6 the past few weeks and feel that I've finally got a good grasp on it but there are still a few issues / questions that I hope some of you may be able to help out with. 1. I have a problem directly connecting to a hypervisor and their VMs, I've followed the documentation and also tried various methods posted online but still now luck... this is what I've been trying: https://www.ovirt.org/documentation/how-to/guest-console/connect-to-spice-console-without-portal/ I'd like to have a backup way of accessing the hypervisor if there are problems with the portal if we need to troubleshoot anything local, can someone provide examples of the various access methods you have successfully set up and details of the commands/urls/paths used including any password setup/configs needed? 2. Is 4.x backwards compatible? Is it possible to add a 3.x hypervisor to a 4.x hosted engine? What are some of the clear advantages and upsides to starting with 4.x rather than 3.6? Re: [ovirt-users] Failed Import - Hung finalizing
Hi Brett, You may be able to clear the task using the vdsClient: On the SPM host, you can run vdsClient to query and make changes to the cluster To cleanup stuck task, for example [root@oVirt1 ~] # vdsClient -s 0 getAllTasksStatuses {'status': {'message': 'OK', 'code': 0}, 'allTasksStatus': {}} [root@oVirt1 ~]# vdsClient -s 0 clearTask In my experience, the stuck task is never listed and therefore not available to be removed with vdsClient. What has worked for me in the past is to ssh into the engine and re-running `engine-setup` If you are running a hosted engine make sure that you put it in global maintenance mode first. I tried this and I get the attached error message. Error while executing action: Cannot add Host. You are using an unmanaged hosted engine VM. Please upgrade the cluster level to 3.6 and wait for the hosted engine storage domain to be properly imported. I used only the required information. Power management is not configured, although even with power management configured (ipmilan) it gives the same error message. The cluster and data center compatibility levels are at 4.0. Re: [ovirt-users] Setting compatibility level on 3.6
I confirm: I am not able to modify compatibility level using engine UI. I'm running oVirt Version 3.6.7.5-1.el7.centos and I would upgrade to 4.0 I was able to migrate HostedEngine to Default Cluster On one of the clusters (CentOS7 cluster) I can't change Compatibility level from 3.5 to 3.6 value Now the problem is that I have a gluster volume. If I delete Gluster Volume from HE UI can I loss data? Re: [ovirt-users] quota creation from ovirt-shell
Hi, there is a bug in the ovirt-cli, which makes creating quotaclusterlimit and quotastoragelimit impossible. The correct syntax would be: add quotastoragelimit --parent-datacenter-name Default --parent-quota-name testcli ... You could use a python script with the SDK instead. For example: from ovirtsdk.api import API from ovirtsdk.xml.params import Quota from ovirtsdk.xml.params import QuotaStorageLimit api = API('IP:PORT/ovirt-engine/api', 'admin@internal', 'pass') dc = api.datacenters.list()[0] quota = dc.quotas.add(Quota(name="quota1")) quota.quotastoragelimits.add(QuotaStorageLimit(limit=100)) Regards, Andrej - Original Message - From: "Paul Staniforth"To: users@ovirt.org Sent: Monday, September 12, 2016 6:00:50 PM Subject: [ovirt-users] quota creation from ovirt-shell Hello, I am trying to create user quotas from the command line via the shell. Re: [ovirt-users] Can't add logical network
Okay, i found a workaround. - Create empty ifcfg-lan on all hosts (touch /etc/sysconfig/network- scripts/ifcfg-lan) - Assign the bridge to the bond (Ovirt only add MTU=1500 in the file) - Unassign the bridge (Ovirt rewrite the bond configuration files) - Re-assign the bridge on the bond - yay it work ! I configured the bond manually by editing the ifcfg file like i did in my old install on ovirt 3.6 and 4.0 the only ifcfg file i have are the 4 for the physical interfaces, two for the bonds and one for the ovirtmgmt bridge. You can also put all HE hosts on that cluster to local maintenance and shutdown the vm. It will start up on another cluster. Re: [ovirt-users] Setting compatibility level on 3.6
As I wrote this morning using a smartphone: I can't change compatibility using UI engine because the HE is running. For this reason I need to change the compatibility value in the DB. The problem is that in oVirt 3.6 I can't find any cluster named table as described in Comment 17 of https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1341023 Can anyone verify? Re: [ovirt-users] oVirt Gluster Hyperconverged problem
Hello Hanson, Below is the procedure to replace the host with same FQDN where existing host OS has to be re-installed. If the ovirt version you are running is 4.0, steps 14 and 15 are not required. You could reinstall the host from UI with HostedEngine->Deploy option. * 1. Move host (host3) to maintenance in UI 2. Re-install OS, subscribe to channels & install required packages, prepare bricks (if needed) 3. Check gluster peer status from working node to obtain UUID of host being replaced 4. Create brick directories by running the command “mkdir /rhgs/brick{1..3} 5. Put /etc/fstab entries in the new node by copying it from other nodes. 6. Run mount -a so that bricks are mounted. 7. Edit gluster UUID in /var/lib/glusterd/glusterd.info 8. Copy peer info from a working peer to /var/lib/glusterd/peers (without the peer info of node being replaced, here host3) 9. Create and remove a tmp dir at all volume mount points 10. Run the command “setfattr -n trusted.non-existent-key -v abc ” to set extended attributes and remove the extended attribute by running the command “ setfattr -x trusted.non-existent-key ” at all mount points. 11. Restart glusterd 12. Ensure heal is in progress and complete 13. Edit the host, and fetch fingerprint in Advanced details - as fingerprint is changed due to reinstallation 14. Run “hosted-engine --deploy --config-append=answers.conf” on host3 (Should be seen as additional host setup, provide the host number as known by other hosts) 15. hosted-engine deploy fails as the host being installed cannot be added to the engine with hostname already known error. Reinstalling from the UI and aborting HE setup seems to fix this. ovirt-ha-agent and ovirt-ha-broker services had to be started manually 1. Go to UI and click on reinstall button to reinstall the host. Reinstalling host might fail due not able to configure management network. 2. Go to Network Interfaces tab and click on “Setup Host Networks” and assign the networks ovirtmgmt and glusternw to the correct nics. 3. Wait for sometime for the Node to come up and start ovirt-ha-agent and ovirt-ha-broker services. * Thanks kasturi. I have three hypervisors, HV1, HV2, HV3, all running gluster for hosted engine support. Individually they all pointed to HV1:/hosted_engine with backupvol=HV2,HV3... HV1 lost its bootsector, which was discovered upon a reboot. This had zero impact, as designed, on the VM's. However, now that HV1 is down, how does one go about replacing the original HV? The backup servers point to HV1, and you cannot readd the HV through the GUI, and the CLI will not readd it as it's already there... you cannot remove it as it is down in the GUI... Pointing the other HV's to their own storage may make sense for multiple instances of the hosted_engine, however it's nice that the gluster volumes are replicated and that one VM can be relaunched when a HV error is detected. It's also consuming less resources.
