[ovirt-users] How do you oVirt? Here the answers!

2017-04-14 Thread Sandro Bonazzola
Hi,
a few weeks ago I opened a survey asking oVirt users about how they use
oVirt.
Here are the analytics of the survey:
https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1s3k4pq_U4vHTuUUKr6dOosGj_EGFxqEisansHlqnyyM/viewanalytics#responses

Most notable facts:
- 197 responses, two times the responses we got with the 3.6 survey!
- CentOS confims as the most used distribution for running oVirt engine
(89.8%) and Hypervisors (74.3% which become 94.2% including oVirt Node
which is a CentOS spin)
- Fedora is the second distribution (4.6%) mostly used only for runnig
oVirt engine
- oVirt Node jumped from 7.1% on 3.6 survey to 19.9% in 4.1!
- Surprisingly we have someone running both engine and hypervisor on Ubuntu
based system, within VMs. I'd like to hear more about this use case.
- Within other OS we had Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6 and 7 and Scientific
Linux (I guess 7, wasn't specified)
- Within the storage, there isn't a "winner" between NFS, Gluster and
iSCSI. Within Other Storage, Fiber Channel is the most used. We had also:
Ceph, DAS, EMC ScaleIO, GPFS
- Hosted Engine is the most used deployment choice with 58.4% (was 50.0% in
3.6)
- 65.8% of Hosted Engine users use it in Hyperconverged setup.

Thank you for your feedback and appreciation, we'll look into suggestions
you sent in the survey.

There would be interesting to know in which way. I've done a google
search about oVirt+ScaleIO - just a few thread about.

2017-04-14 Thread Pavel Gashev
If 58.4% use Hosted Engine, and 65.8% of them use it in Hyperconverged setup,
then at least 38.4% of all users have Hyperconverged setup, but only 25.9% use
Gluster.
What is Hyperconverged setup in at least 12.5% of all cases?

I guess looking at the raw data of the survey that the missing 12.5% is
falling into "Other Storage" where some user reported to use all of them in
different clusters.

Re: [ovirt-users] Networking setup

2017-04-14 Thread FERNANDO FREDIANI
Hello Alexis.

Why use all those physical NICs and not simplify with fewer NICs and
cabling.

Things like Management, Migration and Display you may put on the same set
of NICs (bond0) as Management and Display traffic are marginal so you have
an almost dedicated NICs for Migration traffic.
Then yes is good to separate VMs traffic and iSCSI in different set of NICs.

If you really want to use all your physical NICs add the one left in this
scenario to either add more bandwidth to VMs traffic or to user as
active/backup if you have two non-stackable switches, either with bonding
too.

Regards
Fernando

[ovirt-users] Importing existing KVM hosts to Ovirt

Hi guys, I just installed oVirt 4.1 - works great!

But the questing is, we have around 50 existing kvm hosts, is it really
possible during adding them to oVirt add all VMs from them to oVirt?

Second options I see - import disks to oVirts and re-create machines

Thanks for the help.

you can try GUI Import VM via libvirt, unless you use some exotic
options/storage it should work just fine

that’s possible as well, disk by disk.

[ovirt-users] [oVirt 4.1] oVirt installation and hotplug memory to the hosted-engine VM

2017-04-14 Thread wodel youchi
Hi,

I am testing oVirt 4.1 using oVirt node and oVirt appliance, I have two
questions :

1 - Installation process :
I found that the installation process has changed regarding the appliance
use, it forces the download of the appliance before continuing the
installation, but it still offer the use of another image later on, which
is somehow disturbing.
can the force-download be disabled, When installing the first time, I did
download the rpm appliance before starting the hosted-engine deployment,
but I had to re-install the nodes, and since I have a poor internet
connection and to save time I saved the ova file of the appliance, but I
couldn't use later, because the deployment script forces me to download the
image again.

2 - Can we hotplug memory on the hosted-engine VM? if yes how? I can edit
the VM, but the changes are not taken into account. I then stopped the VM
engine and started it again, still the changes are not taken into account,
in the webui I have the new value, but free -m shows me the old one.

Thanks in advance and thank you all for your work and efforts

[ovirt-users] virsh list

2017-04-14 Thread Konstantin Raskoshnyi
Hi guys

I'm trying to run virsh list (or any other virsh commands)

virsh list
Please enter your authentication name: admin
Please enter your password:
error: failed to connect to the hypervisor
error: authentication failed: authentication failed

But I have no clue about login:password ovirt uses.
I tried admin password, also tried to create new account with saslpasswd2

Which didn't work to.

Any solutions?

I forget where I found it, likely somewhere in the code. But:

u: vdsm@ovirt
p: shibboleth

-j
