[ovirt-users] Re: How to connect 2 hosts

2019-01-21 Thread ada per
Thank you i try pinging Host1 from Host 2 with the following results:
On a logical network Host1 can ping host2 but while on a VLAN host 1 cannot
ping host2.

The hosts are physically connected via a switch.

[ovirt-users] Unable to start or create a virtual machine

2019-01-21 Thread Shikhar Verma
Hi,
I have created the virtual machine from ovirt manager but when I am trying to
get the console of the vm to do the installation of it but it is only giving
two two line and even i have tried as run once and selected CD ROM as first
priority and attached the ISO of centos7 SeaBIOS (version 1.11.0-2.e17) Machine
UUID --- Also, from manager, newly launched vm is showing green.. And from
the host machine, it is showing this error Jan 21 19:23:24 servera libvirtd:

latest version version of ovirt-engine & host as well.

Setup I have create on my Laptop using vmware workstation:

Centos server : Manager : server.example.com (192.168.28.128)

Centos : Host : servera.example.com 192.168.28.130

Centos : NFS Server : utility.example.com 192.168.28.129 (create fs's as
/exports and exported as /exports/iso & /exports/data1 )
 In /exports/iso ==> I have rhel 7 & centos 7 iso images and /exports/data1 (
will be using for disk images of vms)

From Manager : I have added host and also create domains one as datadomain
(/exports/data1) and another one is isodomain (/exports/iso)

Now issue i am facing when I am trying to create a vm, it is allowing me to
create vm but console is blank.

[ovirt-users] Vdo based storage domain

2019-01-21 Thread Leo David
Hi everyone,
I have read and tried to understand how vdo works, and it seems pretty
impressive, but i feel like i am missing something.
At the end of the day, my question is:
Can I entirelly rely on the 10 times increased usable space ?
As and example, I have created a 4.8tb volume based on 3x480gb samsung
sm863a enterprise ssd devices. (full replica 3).
Should I be confident that I can use 4.8tb for my storage domain (vms data
store) without concerning about data repetabilitty in the future ?
I am just trying to think as an end-user consumer that cannot predict if
data that will be written to the device will be compresable or not, and
only see 4.8tb as trully usable space.
Any thoughts, any experience to share ?
Im sorry if my question sounds noob, but i'm just trying to get under end
user's hat.
Thank you very much,

Have a good day !
Leo

This is what happens when libvirt is not configured to work with vdsm.
Can you share your /etc/libvirt/libvirtd.conf?
Would you try `vdsm-tool configure --force` ? (bad for debugging root
cause, but can just fix your issue)

Let's ensure that the hosts can communicate via the logical network:
If you assign IP addresses to the network attachments of the
logical network on host1 and host2, can host1 ping from
host2 via this IP addresses on the VLAN/logical network?

How are the hosts connected?

[ovirt-users] oVirt 4.2.7 export VM seems stuck at end of sparse disk

2019-01-21 Thread Gianluca Cecchi
Hello,
it happened two times, always with VMs composed by more than 1 disk.
Now I have a VM with 9 disks and a total of about 370Gb:
1 x 90Gb
5 x 50Gb
3 x 10Gb

I export vm to an export domain and it started 2 hours and 10 minutes ago
at 15:46.
At beginning the write rate on export domain was 120MB/s (in line with I/O
capabilities of storage subsystem).
It seems 5 disks completed ok, while 4 don't complete, even if it seems to
be some reading activity:

with command
iotop -d 3 -k -o -P
I get this on hypervisor where qemu-img convert command is executing

Yes.
oVirt's logical networks provides isolation on layer 2.
If the switch connection the two hosts does not block this, you can
1. create a new logical network with a vlan tag in oVirt,
2. connect this new logical network to both hosts,
( Compute > Hosts > xxx > Network Interfaces > Setup Host Networks)
3. add a new network interface with network profile of the new logical
network to the router/dhcp server VM and
4. use the same logical network for the network interface of the client
   VMs.

[ovirt-users] Re: need network design advice for iSCSI

2019-01-21 Thread Vinícius Ferrão
Hello people, in the past Maor Lipchuk (from RH) tried very hard to help me and
Uwe but we was unable to converge on the solution.

This was discussed a year ago and on my understanding it still and oVirt bug.
As today, if you simple “DuckDuckGo” for “ovirt iscsi multipath not working”
the third link points to this bugzilla:
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1474904

Which is the one I’ve mentioned and it’s extremely similar to John Florian
case, which was my case too.

@John, take a look at the bugzilla link and see if the desired topology match
with your case.

Regards,

[ovirt-users] Re: multiple engines (active passive)

2019-01-21 Thread Sven Achtelik
Hi Alex,

could you share more details on your setup ? I also had issues with restoring
the engine from a backup and it made me think of running engine not a self
hosted HA. I don’t have any experience with pacemaker/corrosync and drbd, but
I’m willing to test and find out how to use these for the engine. I think
details on your config would provide a good starting point. Of course a working
backup of any solution is necessary.

Thank you, Sven

real HA is complicated, no way around that...

As stated earlier, we also run engine bare metal using pacemaker / corosync /
drbd to keep both nodes in perfect sync, failover happens in a few seconds. We
also do daily backups of the engine, but in the 4 years or so that we have been
running ovirt, we have luckily never had to use them with this setup. STONITH
is pretty important to setup if you are running less than three nodes as the
engine, just to keep split brain from corrupting everything.

restore?? I worked for a whole night trying to recover the failed
engine...recovery from backup was very painful. does anyone here have a
solution for testing backups (not in crises mode)?

I'm still sort of new to ovirt, but I went through a similar things. I had my
original engine fail and had to recover, so here is my "oVirt HA plan"

1. I do NOT use hosted ovirt, I had issues getting it deployed correctly, and
that doesn't help if they engine VM itself has issues. My engine is hosted on
a completely separated 2-node hyper-converged Hyper-V Cluster. Unless you have
a cluster larger than 3 hosts, I really don't think hosted ovirt is a good
idea, it would make more sense to just load ovirt on another PC by itself.
2. I plan on loading another copy of ovirt in a "cold storage" configuration.
Where it will be loaded on centos, and configured as close as I can without
adding in any hosts. I'll probably keep it turned off and try to updated it
once a month or so.
3. If I have another oVirt failure, I know to log in, put the storage domains
into maintenance mode if possible, and copy out any needed config items i may
have missed. I will the shut it off and delete it. I then will reboot all the
hosts one at a time to clear out any sanlock issues, then add the hosts to the
new copy of ovirt and import the storage. I estimate that process to take
around 2-4hrs.

[ovirt-users] Re: need network design advice for iSCSI

2019-01-21 Thread Shani Leviim
Hi,
I'm not familiar with network construction, so I guess I'm not the right
address for that :)

Shani Leviim
