[ovirt-users] Re: Migrating Domain Storage Gluster

2019-05-10 Thread Strahil
If this is replica 2 arbiter 1 (old name replica 3 arbiter 1) or a plain
replica 3 volume - you don't need the downtime.
Just stop the bricks on one of the nodes.
Mount (and verify) those SSDs on the same location and use the gluster's reset
brick option.
Wait for the heal to complete and repeat with the other node(s).

It is quite more stable than 5.3 and some enhancements were done.

[ovirt-users] Can't run nested virtualization

2019-05-10 Thread nicolas

Hi,

We're running oVirt version 4.3.3, and trying to configure one of the
hosts to support Nested Virtualization, but when installing the nested
host it claims it doesn't support hardware virtualization.

On the physical host, we've enabled nested virtualization:

# cat /sys/module/kvm_intel/parameters/nested
Y

Content of /etc/modprobe.d/kvm.conf:

options kvm_intel nested=1
options kvm_intel enable_shadow_vmcs=1
options kvm_intel enable_apicv=1
options kvm_intel ept=1

I created a VM to run on that host, which will be the nested host. I try
to deploy it but the engine will show it failed because:

2019-05-10 09:11:32,006+01 ERROR
[org.ovirt.engine.core.dal.dbbroker.auditloghandling.AuditLogDirector]
(VdsDeploy) [6381e662] EVENT_ID: VDS_INSTALL_IN_PROGRESS_ERROR(511), An
error has occurred during installation of Host host1: Failed to execute
stage 'Setup validation': Hardware does not support virtualization.

Am I missing something here?

Thanks.

My run setup.yml is as follows:

 - hosts: ovirt-engine
   roles:
   - ovirt.image-template

The playbook and vars are same as the blog except for hostname(s), password(s),
etc. I've changed those where needed to fit my environment.

If you have the storage leases on another hardware then you do not have the
same problem I have; unless you are talking about upgrading the hardware of the
storage domain that holds the leases.
General: you can change the lease on a running VM. But (speaking for 4.2) you
have to set it to no lease first.

> Does that work for the SPM and hosted engine as well?

I think the hosted engine has it's own kind of storage lease, but I can't say
anything to that. SPM does not have a storage lease it should be hardware (ie
it's one of the hypervisors) not a VM.

This has nothing to do with ovirt.

You could use rdiff-backup on any running machine, be it virtual or bare
metal. It's just a way to use a combination of diff and rsync to backup
machines. Indeed, I was using it with my vmware-based systems and, when
I migrated them to ovirt, the backups just continued working.

No, unfortunately the issue is not there.
The new value of OvfUpdateIntervalInMinutes will not be consumed until the
engine will restart reloading it but in our case it's not restarting in the
middle so it's still 1 minute.

Can you please share engine.log from your bootstrap VM?
I fear that in the DB you are trying to restore there is some dirty value
that cause the engine to fail serializing the OVF_STORE.

[ovirt-users] Hosted Engine Restore Issues

2019-05-10 Thread Alan G
Hi,

Trying to re-deploy Hosted Engine into a new storage domain. "hosted-engine
--deploy  --noansible" has completed and the engine is up, but I cannot remove
the existing hosted_storage domain to allow the new one to be imported.

I cannot remove the domain until the old HostedEngine VM is removed, but I
cannot remove that as it has Delete Protection enabled. Any attempt to remove
delete protection errors with "There was an attempt to change Hosted Engine VM
values that are locked". How is this process supposed to work?

Thanks,

Alan___

[ovirt-users] Re: oVirt Open Source Backup solution?

2019-05-10 Thread Strahil
Another option is to create a snapshot, backup the snapahot and merge the disks
(delete the snapshot actually).
Sadly that option doesn't work with Databases, as you might inyerrupt a
transaction and leave the DB in inconsistent state.

Updated to 4.3.3.7, the date picker for gluster snapshot appears to not
be working? It wont register clicks, and manually typing in times
doesn't work.

Can anyone else confirm?

[ovirt-users] New to OVirt

2019-05-10 Thread Slobodan Stevanovic

I am having hard time installing OVIrt.
Gluster deployment for the single node sometimes work, but host engine
deployment never works.

Any one has suggestion on which release of OVirt to use as a beginner.

Honestly? don't do hosted engine deployment first. If you're just getting
started with ovirt, you're going to waste weeks on getting hosted engine
running, and then I guarantee once it's running, it's not going to come up when
you need it most. Just load your single host, and then load the engine on a
separate VM/Machine to manage it. I have the engine running on a separate
machine so just in case there is a host issue, you can still access the engine
to fix it.

I've been running hosted engine on a single host for a few years now with
no issue. I did redo my initial install several times but its been fine
ever since. I started at 4.0.x and have gone through multiple OS and ovirt
upgrades with few issues.

Disagree, I've had some pretty significant meltdowns and if you cant access
hosted engine, go have drink and try again... It comes up. It's ability to
self-repair and find a scrap of a host to run on is pretty impressive.

I have used both hosted and standalone engine and can tell that so far I
had more issues with hosted engine than with standalone one.
Not like huge issues, but something like you put host in to global HA
maintenance, then update hosted engine, reboot and... and it doesn't start.
Not a big deal, but for a new user it might be a bit confusing.
So am with Michael, if you just starting using oVirt then it's better to
have standalone engine et first. And then migrate it over into hosted
environment when you are comfortable to do so.

The only issue I've had is that it can take 15 minutes before the HE
starts... And I have to ensure the host is taken out of maintenance mode
manually. Beyond that, it has recovered from many updates, reboots, and
power hits without intervention.

2019-05-10 Thread Dmitry Filonov
Absolutely. It is Rock solid. It is great idea and definitely way to go
when you are comfortable with the technology. But for the new user it might
be confusing at first. And in general it adds a bit of complexity that you
don't need.
Especially if you do have that extra piece of hardware to use for it in the
beginning.

[ovirt-users] Ovirt Node transfer to New Engine (it is possible)

2019-05-10 Thread IT INFRA
Hi,

It is possible to transfer my node to other ovirt engine (new 4.3) here's the
scenario.

Old Server: (no internet prod)
Engine (ovirt 4.1) - Hardware failure No possible recovery
Node1 (node 4.1)
Node2 (node 4.1)

New Server
Engine (Ovirt 4.3)

*note have full backup of old engine 4.1 version\
* can't re install using yum install
http://resources.ovirt.org/pub/yum-repo/ovirt-release41.rpm (no more link
available)

any possible solution on this..

Thanks,

[ovirt-users] Re: New to OVirt

2019-05-10 Thread michael
I'm glad to hear i'm in the minority! I had the worst luck with struggling to
get it loaded, then once it was loaded, I ran great, until it didn't, and have
to wait and wait for it to load while the host rebooted and trying to figure
out why it wasn't coming up just drove me crazy. Although I ran it on 3 nodes
so I had to track down where it migrated too.

2019-05-10 Thread Slobodan Stevanovic
I am currently at the point that I am thinking on giving up and start playing
more with Proxmox.
Do you guys have any suggestion on what instructions I should use? I just want
to setup something to get a better idea on how everything works before I go to
more advance things.
Currently, downloading Ovirt Node from https://www.ovirt.org/download/node.html
and running Cockpit does not work form me.
