[ovirt-users] Used Network resources of host XY [97%] exceeded

2014-12-17 Thread Ml Ml
Hello List,

one of my ovirt Guests seems to loose its Network connection. I can
still see some traffic on the console tough. In the Logs i get:

2014-Dez-04, 13:09
Used Network resources of host myhostname-here [97%] exceeded
defined threshold [95%].

Is this the reason? Where can i change or disable this feature?

Thanks,
Mario

 f.cd /usr/share/ovirt-engine/dbscripts
 g../backup.sh
 h.mv engine_*.sql ~/backup/engine.sql
3.You may also want to backup dwh reports:
 a.cd /usr/share/ovirt-engine/bin/
 b../engine-backup.sh --mode=backup --scope=db --db-user=engine
 --db-password=XXX --file=/usr/tmp/rhevm-backups/engine-backup

4.Download these backup files, and copy them to the destination host.
 Restore configuration
 1.On the destination host, do:

 Again, steps a-h, basically
 engine-setup
 engine-cleanup
 engine-backup mode=restore --file=~/ovirt-engine-source --log=backup.log

also, I would run a second
 engine-setup
After that, you should be good to go..

Of course, depending on your previous engine setup this could be a little
more complicated. Still, quite strait forward.

 a.service ovirt-engine stop
 b.service ovirt-engine-dwhd stop

 f. tar -xvjf engine-backup
 g. tar -xvjf dwh-backup

 Restore Database
 1.On the destination host do:

 b. su - postgres -c psql -d template1 -c 'create database engine owner
 engine;'
 c. su - postgres
 d. psql
 e. \c engine
 f. \i /path/to/backup/engine.sql
NOTE: in case you have issues logging in to the database, add the following
   line to the pg_hba.conf file:

hostallengine127.0.0.1/32trust

 2.Fix engine password:
 a.su - postgres
 b. psql
 c.alter user engine with password 'XXX';
 Change ovirt hostname
 On the destination host, run:

  /usr/share/ovirt-engine/setup/bin/ovirt-engine-rename

 NB:
Restoring the dwh/reports database is similar to steps 5-7, but omitted from
this document due to problems starting the reporting service.

To be honest: I never have restored ovirt-engine with running vdsm
hosts connected to it, sounds like a lot of fun, I see if I can
grab some time and try this out myself :)

By your description I guess you have nfs/iso domain on your engine host?
why don't you just seperate it, so no need for remounts
 if your engine is destroyed.

Hello List,

i am very unhappy with NFS for my ISO_DOMAIN domain.

Can i simply remove my ISO_DOMAIN via NFS and add a ISO_DOMAIN via isci?

My Setup: http://oi60.tinypic.com/2cmu7nm.jpg

I once ran into a pitfall where i was not able to add a ISO DOMAIN
anymore, so i would rather ask in advance if i can remove the
ISO_DOMAIN and simply add it again via iscsi.

Do i need to take care of anything here?

Thanks, that did the trick.

Its mentioned in the engine-backup --help dialog. But maybe we should
add it to the http://www.ovirt.org/Ovirt-engine-backup page, too?

[ovirt-users] ISO_DOMAIN by NFS behavior (if NFS is unavailable)

2014-10-01 Thread ml ml
Hello List,

i have just tried to backup and replace my ovirt-engine.

My ovir-engine also provides the NFS share for the ISO Images.

However, if i take that nfs share away my ovirt-nodes and cluster
seems to fall apart.

I get those typical NFS stale file handle symthoms.

I can not umount or remount the NFS dirs anymore.

Any idea how i can fix this or better: protect myself from such an NFS failure?

Thanks,

Hello Michael,

this cant be the answer. Maybe NFS is the wrong tool for the wrong
purpose in this case then.

I am talking about disaster recovery, but you only have soft failures in mind.

 Hello Mario,

do it before you turn of your engine and leave it detached, because normally
it is not needed all the time.
Or create a new ISO_DOMAIN storage at a more save place.

[ovirt-users] two node replicated gluster

2014-09-25 Thread ml ml
Hello List,

i have a Two Node replicated Gluster.

I am running about 15 vm on each host so that in case one node fails
the other one can take over.

My question is how the GlusterFS self-healing-daemon works.

I disconnected the two nodes on purpose and reconnected them again. So
that the self-heal-daemon jumps it.

It looks like it would transfer all the file. Does the
self-heal-deamon of glusterfs not just copy the missing increments?

ok, i now removed the nodes and added them again. Same FQDN. I still get
Start SPM Task failed - result: cleanSuccess, message:
VDSGenericException: VDSErrorException: Failed to HSMGetTaskStatusVDS,
error = Cannot acquire host id, code = 661

I also got some error.

Now whats the deal with that host id?

Can somone please point me to the way how to debug this instead of pressing
some remove and add buttons?

Does someone really know how ovirt works under the hood?

I dont have the exspected Volumes Tab to add Bricks.

If i go to Storage i can only add Data / GlusterFS with a path to
mount glusterfs. I guess this is for already existing gluster shares?

Does it not work like this on page 15,16,17?

It should work like this - I did such a setup last week but with dedicated

Should this be added to the wiki or fixed?

i am very new to ovirt. I am setting up a 2 Node Cluster with GlusterFS

I was about to buy a 2-Port Intel Gbit nic for each host which is about
150Eur each.

However, for a little extra of 180Eur you get a 10GBit Infiniband -
MCX311A-XCAT.

I would like to have quick opinions on this.

Should i pay a little more and then get 10MBit instead of 2GBit bonded?

Am i the only one with dedicated migration/storage interfaces? :)

[Users] Dedicated Bonding interface for Gluster

2014-02-11 Thread ml ml
Hello List,

i would like to use a dedicated Bonding Interface for Gluster Replication
and Migration.

I was already able to add my Bonding Interfaces in my Hosts-Network Tab,
however i am failing to tell Gluster to use this interface. It only offers
me nodeX.local (which is my managment network).

More infos are collected here: http://oi58.tinypic.com/v6qaa1.jpg

Can someone tell me how to configure Gluster to use the dedicated bond
interface?

I already asked in the IRC Channel but nobody seems to know :-/

Thanks,
Mario

Hi Vijay,

i deleted the Cluster/Datacenter and set it up with two new (physical)
Hosts and now the performance looks great.

I dunno what i did wrong. Thanks a lot

I was referring to the set of gluster volume tunables in [1]. These
options can be enabled through volume set interface in gluster CLI.

The quorum options are used for providing tolerance against split-brains
and the remaining ones are recommended normally for performance.

[Users] Will this two node concept scale and work?

2014-02-05 Thread ml ml
Hello List,

my aim is to host multiple VMs which are redundant and are high available.
It should also scale well.

I think usually people just buy a fat iSCSI Storage and attach this. In my
case it should scale well from very small nodes to big ones.
Therefore an iSCSI Target will bring a lot of overhead (10GBit Links and
two Paths, and really i should have a 2nd Hot Standby SAN, too). This makes
scalability very hard.

This post is also not meant to be a iscsi discussion.

Since oVirt does not support DRBD out of the box i came up with my own
concept:

http://oi62.tinypic.com/2550xg5.jpg

As far as i can tell i have the following advantages:

- i can start with two simple cheap nodes
- i could add more disks to my nodes. Maybe even a SSD as a dedicated
drbdresource.
- i can connect the two nodes directly to each other with bonding or
infiniband. i dont need a switch or something between it.

Downside:
---
- i always need two nodes (as a couple)

Will this setup work for me. So far i think i will be quite happy with it.
Since the DRBD Resources are shared in dual primary mode i am not sure if
ovirt can handle it. It is not allowed to write to a vm disk at the same
time.

The Concept of Linbit (
http://www.linbit.com/en/company/news/333-high-available-virtualization-at-a-most-reasonable-price)
seems to much of an overhead with the iSCSI Layer and pacemaker setup. Its
just too much for such a simple task.

Please tell me that this concept is great and will work and scale well.
Otherwise i am also thankful for any hints or critical ideas.

Thanks a lot,
Mario

Hello Ron,

thanks for your reply.

This post is also not meant to be a iscsi discussion.

Since oVirt does not support DRBD out of the box i came up with my own
 concept:

 check out posix storage domain.
If it supports gluster you might be able to use it for DRBD.

Sorry, I dont quite understand how posix will work with gluster here.

What would the architechture look like and on what layer would it
replicate.
With gluster the glusterfs comes into my mind. How will drbd come into
place here?

Thanks a lot!
