[ovirt-users] SPICE proxy behind nginx reverse proxy

2020-10-05 Thread Colin Coe
Hi all

As per $SUBJECT, I have a SPICE proxy behind a reverse proxy which all
external VDI users are forced to use.

We've only started doing this in the last week or so but I'm not getting
heaps of reports SPICE sessions "freezing". The testing that I've done
shows that a SPICE session that is unattended for 10-15 minutes hangs or
freezes. By this I mean that you can't interact with the VM (using SPICE)
via mouse or Keyboard. Restarting the SPICE session fixes the problem.

Is anyone else doing this? If so, have you noticed the SPICE session
freezes?

Thanks in advance

[ovirt-users] spice options hook

2020-04-20 Thread ozmen62
Hi,
We're using oVirt 4.3 and want to use spice streaming to better user
experience, for example youtube etc.
I've tried to use before_vm_start script, but lots of problems came out.
1 - on default environmet, hook script returns of no such file or directory,
because python3 does not exist on the system
if i install python3, vdsm stops working
if change interpreter in the script, vdms retuns rc=0 error code hook=114
and it does not appear on the vm custom properties
So, could you help me to run this hook properly

we've tested
https://github.com/oVirt/vdsm/tree/master/vdsm_hooks/spiceoptions
Master and 4.3 branch returns same error code and nothing appeared on the
"custom properties"

is there anyone who is use it successfully

2 - for this experince is GPU neccessery (not vGPU) , our server has standard
8mb onboard gpu

thanks

[ovirt-users] spice connection error

2019-11-27 Thread kim . kargaard
Hi,

When trying to connect from a remote network on the spice console to a VM, I
get the following error:

(remote-viewer:80195): virt-viewer-WARNING **: 11:05:22.322: Channel error:
Could not connect to proxy server xx.xx.xx.xx: Socket I/O timed out

I found that the display is set to the management network and not the VM
networkn in the cluster logical network. However, when I try to set the other
vlan to be the display network, I get the following error:

Error while executing action: Cannot edit Network. IP address has to be set for
the NIC that bears a role network. Network: student-vlan100, Nic: p2p1.100 on
host node3 violates that rule.

I am not sure what this means. Any ideas?

Kind regards

Kim

[ovirt-users] SPICE and VNC native

2019-07-01 Thread kim . kargaard
Hi,

We are running ovirt 4.3. The engine is on a bare metal machine and the hosts
are running on Centos 7. When installing the engine, I set it to be the
webproxy. When I create a new vm, I select both SPICE+VNC. When clicking on the
console I only have the option for SPICE native, not for the HTML option. For
VNC I have both options and the HTML option can be selected and works. But,
this is also the only option that works. VNC Native as well as SPICE Native do
not work. I have tried using both remote viewer on Mac and a VNC client on a
Windows machine and neither will actually open the VM. I would really also like
the SPICE HTML option to exist, but it does not. The enable SPICE proxy in the
Console selection is greyed out.

When I open in remoteviewer (Mac) I get Unable to connect to the graphic server.

Any suggestions?

[ovirt-users] SPICE and Windows 10

2019-05-23 Thread Colin Coe
Hi all

We've just updated our dev environment from 4.1 to RHV 4.3 and found that
while a lot better, Windows 10 under SPICE still isn't great.

We're running dual screen VMs at 2560x1440 resolution. The Windows login
screen is particularly bad although once logged in it gets better but not
great. The benchmark here is Windows 10 vs Windows 7 VMs.

We've gone into settings / advanced and set "configure for best
performance". Latest RHV tools (4.3-6) are installed. We've also created
"/etc/ovirt-engine/osinfo.conf.d/20-overload.properties" containing:
os.windows_10.devices.display.vramMultiplier.value = 4
os.windows_10x64.devices.display.vramMultiplier.value = 4

When we set the multiplier to 8, as recommended in another thread,
ovirt-engine fails to restart.

I know there have been a few threads on this but I'd like to ask what is
the advice for RHV/oVirt 4.3 to make Windows 10 faster? VDI on RHV makes
up an important part of what we do and RDP, VNC, etc are not an option.

Thanks

[ovirt-users] Spice console very poor performance for Windows 10 vm

2019-01-06 Thread Leo David
Hello Everyone,
Maybe I am something wrong, but spice console seem to be very laggy and
slow for windows 10 vms. I have tried both qxl and qxl-dod drivers, but no
luck so far...
As a notice, the Win 2012R2 vm console is running fine, the problem seems
to only affect Windows 10.
Any ideas, what should I do to sort this out ?
Thank you very much !

Leo

[ovirt-users] SPICE QXL Crashes Linux Guests

2018-11-25 Thread Alex McWhirter
I'm having an odd issue that i find hard to believe could be a bug, and
not some kind of user error, but im at a loss for where else to look.

when booting a linux ISO with QXL SPICE graphics, the boot hangs as soon
as kernel modesetting kicks in. Tried with latest debian, fedora, and
centos. Sometimes it randomly works, but most often it does not. QXL /
VGA VNC work fine. However if i wait a few minutes after starting the VM
for the graphics to start, then there are no issues and i can install as
usual.

So after install, i reboot, hangs on reboot right after graphics switch
back to text mode with QXL SPICE, not with VNC. So i force power off,
reboot, and wait a while for it to boot. If i did text only install,
when i open a spice console it will hang after typing a few characters.
If i did a graphical install then as long as i waited long enough for X
to start, then it works perfectly fine.

I tried to capture some logs, but since the whole guest OS hangs it's
rather hard to pull off. I did see an occasional error about the mouse
driver, so that's really all i have to go on.

As for the spice client, im using virt-viewer on windows 10 x64, tried
various versions of virt-viewer just to be sure, no change. I also have
a large amount on windows guests with QXL SPICE. These all work with no
issue. Having guest agent installed in the linux guest seems to make no
difference.

There are no out of the ordinary logs on the VDSM hosts, but i can
provide anything you may need. It's not specific to any one host, i have
10 VM hosts in the cluster, they all do. They are westmere boxes if that
makes a difference.

Any ideas on how i should approach this? VNC works well enough for text
only linux guest, but not being able to reboot my GUI linux guests
without also closing my spice connection is a small pain.

as far as ovirt versions im on the latest, this is a rather fresh
install. just set it up a few days ago, but i've been a long time ovirt
user. I am using a squid spice proxy if that makes a difference.

[ovirt-users] Spice console pixelated noise on display changes

2018-06-12 Thread Mitja Mihelič

Dear all,

We are running the following setup:
ovirt-engine host:
- CentOS release 7.5.1804
- ovirt-engine-4.1.9.1-1.el7.centos.noarch
- spice-html5-0.1.7-1.el7.noarch

We have noticed problems with the Spice console. When it opens and
displays the information presented by the VM's console it is OK at
first. But as soon as any part of the display changes, that part gets
replaced by random pixelated noise.
For example I open the console of a standard CentOS server. When I type
something at the login prompt the text is invisible and random pixels
are displayed at the position of the blinking cursor. Please see
attached screenshot spice-1-login_typing_and_cursor_waiting.png.

Please also see other the attached screenshots.
Login prompt after VM reboot: spice-2-login_after_boot.png
Login prompt after hitting Enter a few times: spice-3-login_2x_enter.png

We have tried and succesfully reproduced the issue on OSX (Chrome, FF,
Safari) and Windows (Chrome, FF).

VNC works fine.

Why would this be happening? Help would be very much appreciated.

Kind regards,
Mitja

Re: [ovirt-users] Spice Client Connection Issues Using aSpice

2018-02-21 Thread Jeremy Tourville
Hello everyone,

I can confirm that spice is working for me when I launch it using the .vv file.
I have virt viewer installed on my Windows pc and it works without issue. I
can also launch spice when I use movirt without any issues. I examined the
contents of the .vv file to see what the certificate looks like. I can
confirm that the certficate in the .vv file is the same as the file I
downloaded in step 1 of my directions.

I reviewed the PKI reference
(https://www.ovirt.org/develop/release-management/features/infra/pki/)
<https://www.ovirt.org/develop/release-management/features/infra/pki/>

for a second time and I see the same certificate located in different locations.

For example, all these locations contain the same certificate-

  *   <https://ovirtengine.lan/ovirt-en>
https://ovirtengine.lan/ovirt-engine/services/pki-resource?resource=ca-certificate&format=X509-PEM-CA
  *   /etc/pki/vdsm/certs/cacert.pem
  *   /etc/pki/vdsm/libvirt-spice/ca-cert.pem
  *   /etc/pki/CA/cacert.pem

This is the certificate I am using to configure my aSpice client.

Can someone answer the question from my original post? The PKI reference says
for version 3.2 and 3.3. Is the documentation still correct for version 4.2?

At this point I am trying to find out where the problems exists - ie.

#1 Is my client not configured correctly?

#2 Am I using the wrong cert? (I think I am using the correct cert based on
the research I listed above)

#3 Does my client need to be able to send a pasword? (based on the contents of
the .vv file, I'd have to guess yes)

Also my xml file for the VM in question contains this:

Please note: I did not perform any hand configuration of the xml file, it was
all done by the system using the UI.
#4 Can I configure a file on the system to turn off ticketing and passwords and
see if that makes a difference, if so, what file?

#5 Can someone explain this error?

140400191081600:error:14094438:SSL routines:ssl3_read_bytes:tlsv1 alert
internal error:s3_pkt.c:1493:SSL alert number 80
((null):27595): Spice-Warning **:reds_stream.c:379:reds_stream_ssl_accept:
SSL_accept failed, error=1

What I know about it is this:
According to RFC 2246, the alert number 80 represents an "internal error".
Here is the description from the RFC
internal_error: An internal error unrelated to the peer or the correctness of
the protocol makes it impossible to continue (such as a memory allocation
failure). This message is always fatal.

#6 Could this error be related to any of #1 through #4 above?

Thanks!

the password is generated automatically. Normally it works like this:
- you ask for the .vv file
- ovirt generates a temporary password you can use to connect to console
- you can connect to the console using this temporary password

I don't think there is an easy way to do this... Maybe writing some vdsm
hook or some other complex hack. I've seen an old discussion about it here:
http://lists.ovirt.org/pipermail/users/2014-August/026774.html
but I would not recommend you to go down this path.

Feels to me like OP should try to get it working _any_ "normal" way
before trying to get the special use case application working?

Like trying to run before learning to crawl, if that makes sense?

I would suggest just logging in to webadmin with a regular PC and
trying to get a SPICE console with remote-viewer to begin with. Then,
once that works, try to get a SPICE console working through moVirt with
aSPICE on an Android phone, or one of the Chromebooks you have to play
with before going into production. Once that´s settled and you know it
should work the way you normally access it, you can start playing with
your special use case application.

Hope it helps!

moVirt has been developed for quite some time and works pretty well, this
is why I recommended it. But anyway, you have a different use case.

What I think the issue is, is that oVirt can have different CAs set for
console communication and for API. And I think you are trying to configure
aSPICE to use the one for API.

What moVirt does to make sure it is using the correct CA to put into the
aSPICE is that it downloads the .vv file of the VM (e.g. you can just
connect to console using webadmin and save the .vv file somewhere), parse
it and use the CA= part from it as a certificate. This one is guaranteed to
be the correct one.

For more details about what else it takes from the .vv file you can check
here:
the parsing:
https://github.com/oVirt/moVirt/blob/master/moVirt/src/main/java/org/ovirt/mobile/movirt/rest/client/httpconverter/VvFileHttpMessageConverter.java
configuration of aSPICE:
https://github.com/oVirt/moVirt/blob/master/moVirt/src/main/java/org/ovirt/mobile/movirt/util/ConsoleHelper.java

enjoy :)

Re: [ovirt-users] Spice Client Connection Issues Using aSpice

2018-02-19 Thread Jeremy Tourville
Hi Tomas,

To answer your question, yes I am really trying to use aSpice.

I appreciate your suggestion. I'm not sure if it meets my objective. Maybe
our goals are different? It seems to me that movirt is built around portable
management of the ovirt environment. I am attempting to provide a VDI type
experience for running a vm. My goal is to run a lab environment with 30
chromebooks loaded with a spice clent. The spice client would of course
connect to the 30 vms running Kali and each session would be independent of
each other.

I did a little further testing with a different client. (spice plugin for
chrome). When I attempted to connect using that client I got a slightly
different error message. The message still seemed to be of the same nature-
i.e.: there is a problem with SSL protocol and communication.

Are you suggesting that movirt can help set up the proper certficates and
config the vms to use spice? Thanks!

are you really using aSPICE client (e.g. the android SPICE client?). If yes,
maybe you want to try to open it using moVirt
(https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.ovirt.mobile.movirt&hl=en)
which delegates the console to aSPICE but configures everything including the
certificates on it. Should be much simpler than configuring it by hand..

To troubleshoot my connection issues I confirmed the port being used to listen.
virsh # domdisplay Kali
spice://172.30.42.12?tls-port=5901<http://172.30.42.12?tls-port=5901>

I see the following when attempting to connect.
tail -f /var/log/libvirt/qemu/Kali.log

140400191081600:error:14094438:SSL routines:ssl3_read_bytes:tlsv1 alert

((null):27595): Spice-Warning **: reds_stream.c:379:reds_stream_ssl_accept:
SSL_accept failed, error=1

I came across some documentation that states in the caveat section "Certificate
of spice SSL should be separate certificate."
https://www.ovirt.org/develop/release-management/features/infra/pki/

Is this still the case for version 4? The document references version 3.2 and
3.3. If so, how do I generate a new certificate for use with spice? Please
let me know if you require further info to troubleshoot, I am happy to provide
it. Many thanks in advance.

I don't know if I correctly understand your question.
It is the web admin gui or the portal gui that takes care of using the
correct host ip (that is where the VM is running at that moment) and the
correct port on it to connect to the vnc/spice console.

At host side the qemu-kvm process for a particular VM will have this snip
in its command line (in my case it is a VM with console configured as
Spice+VNC):

. . . -vnc 192.168.50.21:0,password -k en-us -spice
tls-port=5901,addr=192.168.50.21,x509-dir=/etc/pki/vdsm/libvirt-spice,tls-channel=default,tls-channel=main,tls-channel=display,tls-channel=inputs,tls-channel=cursor,tls-channel=playback,tls-channel=record,tls-channel=smartcard,tls-channel=usbredir,seamless-migration=on
. . .

Take in consideration that if you live migrate this VM, it will seamlessly
change the host ip in the new qemu-kvm process on destination host and also
the port, if the previous one is already taken.
In recent releases of oVirt your spice client window will remain up and the
same both during and after the live migration of the vm, even if the
material host to which it connects changes.

I'm attempting to get my first install of oVirt going in full swing. I have
all the hosts installed and an engine running. All is smooth. I'm not trying to
connect to the Spice console with my Remote Viewer and I have no clue how to
figure out what port I should be connecting too. I've been all over the web via
google looking for a process to install / configure / verify spice is
operational, but I've not been lucky. How do I go about connecting / finding
the port numbers for my VM's? I did open the firewall range required. I

Fortunately, you answered to me before I spend to much time to debug
something that can't work... (compiling phodav on el6 is awful)

I had time to make a hook to add a spiceport device, if someone could be
interested:

#!/usr/bin/python2

import os
import sys
import hooking
import traceback

'''
spice file_sharing vdsm hook

adding spice file sharing to libvirt domain entry:

try:
domxml = hooking.read_domxml()
devices = domxml.getElementsByTagName('devices')[0]
channel = domxml.createElement('channel')
channel.setAttribute('type', 'spiceport')
devices.appendChild(channel)

source = domxml.createElement('source')
source.setAttribute('channel', 'org.spice-space.webdav.0')
channel.appendChild(source)

target = domxml.createElement('target')
target.setAttribute('type', 'virtio')
target.setAttribute('name', 'org.spice-space.webdav.0')
channel.appendChild(target)

hooking.write_domxml(domxml)

In the mean time I noticed that in the more external spice window I have
the option in "send key" list, to send also "Shift+F12".
This way I can exit from the inner spice console.
I don't know if I can configure a different mapping and if I have to do it
globally or per client/user.

[ovirt-users] spice inside spice and Shift F12

2017-01-25 Thread Gianluca Cecchi
Hello,
sometimes it happens that I open a spice console from a browser that
actually is itself inside a VM and connected through a spice console
session.
So Shift+F12 doesn't work at all and to exit from this inner console I have
to shutdown the VM so I loose the focus and I regain it inside the first
spice session.

It seems in the past I used some kind of combination to override this
(probably in plain libvirt+Qemu/KVM and not in oVirt) but I don't
remember...
Could I set for example a different combination for the two environments to
exit console, so that they don't contrast with one another?

Re: [ovirt-users] [Spice-devel] Video performance

2017-01-25 Thread Sven Achtelik
Hi,

where would I have to add this:

I mean which file or is it somewhere in the config ?

I found something that sounds like it would do the same. What do you think
about that ?

http://www.jieyung.com/en/faq.asp?newsclassid=377&newsid=508

It's written for 3.5 and does something before the VM start with a hook to
change that. Would that also work in 4.06 or is there a more elegant way to
do this ?

Thank you,

Sven

You could try enabling the streaming mode, disabled by default in el7 due
different issues (see [0])

[0] https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1294564

To enable the streaming mode, you should include that inside the graphics
node, see mine bellow for an example. Options are 'off', 'all'
and 'filter'.

[ovirt-users] spice console resolution now exceeding 1024x768

2016-11-06 Thread John Nguyen
Hello,

I'm very sorry if this question has been covered before. I've recently
deployed the Ovirt 4 release on a CentOS 7.2 host. I'm delighted with the
dashboard improvements over the 3.6 release. However I'm experiencing an
issue with trying to resize my spice console pass 1024x768 resolution. The
vm to shows an "Unknown Display".

Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.

Yours,

It is going to be fixed in the final 4.0.2 build by a proper fix of
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1285883
You can change it for the timebeing in engine-config’s
RemoteViewerSupportedVersions option

Melissa, may I ask what is the thin client you use? Does the vendor have a plan
for future? Another non-intrusive option is to use the web-based console
clients….which are of varying quality though, so not a feasible replacement in
many cases.

2016-07-22 Thread Melissa Mesler
We are using the 10Zig clients. We talked to support at 10Zig about the
future of these thin clients and even though they are Red Hat certified
thin clients, they are dropping spice support and not moving to virt-
viewer. We are more than happy to help someone with the development of
these in any way as we are kinda stuck and have a lot of these in our
inventory.

I don't know the details of this thin client, but I suggest requesting it
to be supported from the virt-viewer team. Perhaps it's not such a big deal.

Thank you Alex for jumping in
Additional note - the 4.0 distribution of spice components does not contain the
XPI/ActiveX anymore, so in case you want to use the deprecated way you need to
make sure you install the latest 3.6 version of ActiveX/XPI from 3.6
channels/repos

Melissa, may I ask what is the thin client you use? Does the vendor have a plan
for future? Another non-intrusive option is to use the web-based console
clients….which are of varying quality though, so not a feasible replacement in
many cases.

Thanks,
michal

Okay, great now if you want to set that as the default, so you don't have to
do that manually each time do the following:

ssh into the engine box as root.
engine-config -s ClientModeSpiceDefault=Plugin

That should default it to be plugin for all the VMs.

Looking at the code it also set the default mode to 'native' instead of
plugin. After you set the flag to true and restarted the engine, do you see the
'plugin' option when you right click on a running VM in webadmin and select
console options? It should be under Console Invocation

Yes, this is a workaround for us after upgrading to 4.0. I know it's
going away in 4.1 but this buys us some time.

So the first option didn't work b/c like yous aid, it wasn't there. So
we did the second step and it still didn't seem to work. We even tried

Okay gotcha,
Note in 4.1 this ability will be completely removed, the bugzilla is for cases
where
people need it in some kind of production environment.

Assuming you can ssh into the machine that is running the engine (either HE or
standard engine) as root:

engine-config -s EnableDeprecatedClientModeSpicePlugin=true

If that doesn't work because the option was not added to engine-config
(couldn't tell
from reading the code). Try this:

sudo su postgres
--this will log you in as the postgres user
psql -d engine
--this will start psql connecing to the engine database. The default will be
--engine if you didn't specify something else during engine-setup. psql -l
--will list all the databases.
update vdc_options set option_value=true where
option_name='EnableDeprecatedClientModeSpicePlugin';

That bugzilla relates to the legacy spice.xpi FF plugin, and possibly some
activex plugin for IE. The current way is the following:

1. Get virt-viewer for your platform.
2. Associated virt-viewer with .vv files in your browser.
3. Click the button, which will download the .vv file with the appropriate
ticket.
4. The browser will launch virt-viewer with the .vv file as a parameter and it
should just all work.

device from the VM definition"), this is something for ovirt people to
answer. If the QXL device is not present in the VM definition, it should
not matter whether the QXL drivers are installed in the VM or not.

We maintain a fork of the qxl-dod driver which fixes some of those
problems. You can find it in our repo [1], and also in binary form [2].

(I suppose you’re talking about standalone remote-viewer client and squid proxy)
I do not recall any issues with proxy. There might be some, but SPICE people
would know more, they have a separate list here[1]
Did you make sure network is not the bottleneck?

Did you enable it in the VM configuration? (SPICE file transfer). If so and it
still does’t work, again SPICE archive/people might be able to help:)

Indeed it is not ready yet. VMs will work just fine, but remote console access
will be slower, there is no 3D support
it may be ok for your purposes…you would have to try

[ovirt-users] Spice lags using a proxy / Spice foldersharing in oVirt / spice driver for win10

2016-03-30 Thread Marco Bormann
Good evening everyone,
I am Marco from Germany and I currently setup a oVirt environment in our
data center. The current environment are 1 dedicated engine and 6 oVirt
Hosts.

I have three questions which I didnt get answered very well during my
research in the WWW during the last days.

So it would be very helpfull if someone of you can support me.

We are using the cluster for normal VM usage and for VDI desktop
virtualization with the Spice protocol.

1. Question
We are using a spice proxy because we have some VMs reachable via the
Engine and Spice external. Since we are using the proxy some users are
observing some disconnects of the USB redirection and sometimes mouse and
keyboard are not working in the session so that we have to restart the
console. Are there some of you also using a proxy and may had the same
behaviour and a workaround or fix for this?

2. Question
We want to use the Spice foldersharing function but it is always greyed and
not usable for us. I dont find anything in the web about the function in
the Remote viewer. What is necessary to use it? (Linux and Windows clients)

3. Question
The last question is about future usage of the cluster for VMs running
Windows10 (and other microsoft distributions of this generation like
Server2012 etc). Is there a way getting the spice video drivers working
with this operating systems? The official statement I always read is that
there is no official driver at the moment available.

thanks a lot and best wishes from Cologne in Germany

There is no Windows 8+ QXL driver, so things are working in some VGA
fallback mode.

Re: [ovirt-users] Spice SSL Certificate

2015-12-23 Thread Kristof VAN DEN EYNDEN
It’s a clean 3.6 install, and I installed the proxy later on.

I did run the engine-setup command again (don’t know if it creates a new CA
every time?)

And also used this command as given in the bugreport:
engine-setup
--otopi-environment="OVESETUP_CONFIG/websocketProxyConfig=bool:True"

So I added the certificate by surfing to https://(ovirt)/ca.crt
which gives following box in firefox :

So I assume it would be OK now? Nevertheless it still doesn’t work!
/var/log/messages still shows the same error? On another post I found that
someone surfed to https://(ovirt):6100 and accepted the certificiate there. So
I did the same thing which solved my problem immediately.

I don’t quite understand the issue, feels like the CA is not getting authorized
or the 2 certificates do not belong to the same CA ?

Indeed it looks like two different CAs. Can you please check whether they are
the same or not? How did you install the websocket proxy, together at the same
time as you installed engine or later? Was it an upgrade from 3.5?
Note you need the proxy only for web-based clients, remote-viewer (or custom
vnc viewer) doesn't need any

Thanks,

I can continue like this, but I feel it should be easier to complete?

I was trying to get Spice or VNC to work on Firefox. After activating the

Not yet possible via webadmin configuration. But you can do a small "hack" to
achieve this. The
following 2 steps will allow shared VNC and SPICE consoles.

1) create a new start hook e.g.
/usr/libexec/vdsm/hooks/before_vm_start/spice_mc.py

#!/usr/bin/python

import os
import sys
import hooking
import traceback

domxml = hooking.read_domxml()

# Add header tag to allow command line manipulation

d = domxml.getElementsByTagName('domain')[0]
d.setAttribute('xmlns:qemu','http://libvirt.org/schemas/domain/qemu/1.0')

# Add environment variable to allow shared SPICE consoles

c = domxml.createElement('qemu:commandline')
p = domxml.createElement('qemu:env')
p.setAttribute('name','SPICE_DEBUG_ALLOW_MC')
p.setAttribute('value','1')
c.appendChild(p)

# Add environment variables to domain

# Modify graphics tag to allow shared VNC consoles

g = domxml.getElementsByTagName('graphics')[0]
g.setAttribute('connected','keep')
g.setAttribute('sharePolicy','ignore')

d.appendChild(c)

# Writeback domain

hooking.write_domxml(domxml)

# Script end

2) Modify /usr/share/vdsm/rpc/BindingXMLRPC.py

Old: return vm.setTicket(password, ttl, existingConnAction, params)
New: return vm.setTicket(password, ttl, 'keep', params)

I suppose you should use VPN level security for your connectivity to your data

Hi,

As for me, I would build one cluster with gluster service only based on
two nodes (replica 2), and the other one with virt service only based on
other two nodes. I think this variant is more scalable in future.

PS. I am a new in oVirt, so do not except that I am wrong.

I have a dual host setup working right now. Host 1 runs the engine and
is also a node. Host 2 does DB storage and NFS storage. The WebSockets
proxy is running on Host1.

My question is how do I run this behind a router? I am correct in
understanding that the WebSockets proxy acts as the spice access point
for all of the nodes in the cluster / datacetner? or does each node host
need a direct connection for spice?

the .vv file I receive from the management console specifies the
engine's private IP address which works fine when inside the ovirt
management LAN, but it wont route from WAN obviously.

So essentially i guess i need squid to rewrite the served vv file to the
public IP and somehow make the ports work correctly, which is difficult
considering every time a VM is created it also adds its own spice port,
correct?

[ovirt-users] Spice console without rebooting the VM

2015-04-08 Thread Marcelo Donato
Hi everyone!

Connecting to a VM in oVirt 3.5 shows "Console connection denied.
Another user has already accessed the console of this VM.

When user tries to make a console connection to a virtual machine, the
following error message is received:

Console connection denied. Another user has already accessed the console of
this VM.
The VM should be rebooted to allow another user to access it, or changed by
an admin to not enforce reboot between users accessing its console.

Is it possible for multiple people to access the same Spice console without
rebooting the VM?

This scratch build of mingw-spice-gtk has usb redirection enabled, but I
don't know if more is needed for everything to work (usbclerk/usbdk?):

I see the same problem. The SPICE-Client ist the latest version from here:

http://virt-manager.org/download/

It's VirtViewer 2.0.256 for Windows and the problem is, that if you try
to connect an USB device you only get an info dialog stating "USB

client version 1.0256.

I guess this feature simply doesn't exist in the Windows client (yet)?

2015-03-29 Thread Rob Verduijn
Hi,

My experience so far with windows 8.1 x64/ win2012 :

to install the systen I used the latest driver iso from fedora :
http://alt.fedoraproject.org/pub/alt/virtio-win/latest/images/

For the guest tools I used the ovirt-guest-tools iso.
I had to manually extract it from the rpm that I found here:
http://resources.ovirt.org/pub/ovirt-3.5/rpm/el7/noarch/ovirt-guest-tools-iso-3.5-7.noarch.rpm
rpm2cpio ovirt-guest-tools-iso-3.5-7.noarch.rpm | cpio -dvi

Then I used the beta driver from the devs own site :
http://people.redhat.com/~vrozenfe/qxlwddm/

Use at your own risk.

[ovirt-users] spice & thin clients for VDI

2014-12-11 Thread Jorick Astrego
Hi,

We've been talking to a lot of thin client hardware vendors in the last
weeks. And the general trend I see that when we talk about RHEV/oVirt
support, most have advised against using spice for VDI due to high
network usage and spotty performance.

One of them is willing to have his engineers to look at it again but he
want's to know if there have been any performance improvements since
RHEV 3.1. They looked at it then and found it not to be a viable option
for VDI.

Information about spice is pretty hard to find and I don't feel like
trawling through the spice-devel mailinglist archives today.

And I see this on the wiki as still to do:

This page includes a lot of features spice could use. It's an
accumulation of both meetings and over the years added ideas. It
is a jumbled mess. The feature pages are also not all that up to
date. On the bright side, it can all be fixed - if you are in
charge of a feature please try to update it! if you know something
has been updated in code please fix it here!

  Ideas

Performance

  * Protocol changes / optimizations

  * Improving performance
  * Faster compression

  * Bandwidth monitoring

  * advanced caching (proxy cache & persistent cache)
  * encoded audio/video pass-through
 (marc)
  * redirect media streams to by-pass VDI server
 (fedor)

Is anyone using spice & thin clients + ovirt for VDI and what are the
experiences? Or does someone have some recent info about improvements
being implemented in the spice code?

Kind regards,

Jorick Astrego

Met vriendelijke groet, With kind regards,

Re: [ovirt-users] SPICE HTML5 Browser Clinet does not work

2014-10-30 Thread Frantisek Kobzik
I exchanged couple of mails with Fumihide and it seems that oVirt doesn't work
with newest release of SPICE-HTML5 (0.1.5).

For others: If your setup worked before (with SPICE-HTML5 0.1.4) and stopped
working after upgrade to 0.1.5 (e.g. from EPEL), downgrading might solve the
problem.

In the meantime I'll try to investigate what's the problem with 0.1.5.

Cheers,
Franta.

Re: [ovirt-users] Spice on Ovirt 3.4.4 Windows 2012 Guests

2014-10-16 Thread Gary Lloyd
Thanks David that appears to work.

I did a few more tests and it seems that without your fix Ovirt tries to
connect via rpd to machines windows 2012 machines that had the spice
console set prior to the 3.4.4 update.

One other thing I have noticed on our test install is that a powered off
machine could not be moved between different clusters in the same data
centre. The list doesn't expand to include the other clusters on the vm
properties for some reason.

This doesn't affect us at the moment though.

Re: [ovirt-users] Spice on Ovirt 3.4.4 Windows 2012 Guests

2014-10-14 Thread David Jaša
Hi Gary,

I can't tell you what happens on upgrade but in order to be able to
choose Spice consoles for win8/win2012 guests, drop this file
to /etc/ovirt-engine/osinfo.conf.d:

cat > /etc/ovirt-engine/osinfo.conf.d/99-spice_for_win8_and_win2012.properties
<< EOF
os.windows_8.devices.display.protocols.value = qxl/qxl,vnc/cirrus
os.windows_8x64.devices.display.protocols.value = qxl/qxl,vnc/cirrus
os.windows_2012x64.devices.display.protocols.value = qxl/qxl,vnc/cirrus
EOF

and restart the engine.

You won't be able to use qxl driver (and by extension multi-monitor and
continuous resolution change) but the features provided by spice-vdagent
should continue to work for you.

Regards,

David

[ovirt-users] Spice on Ovirt 3.4.4 Windows 2012 Guests

2014-10-14 Thread Gary Lloyd
Hi

We are currently running Ovirt 3.3.5 in production, currently our Windows
Guests are using spice for the console. I have noticed that in our test
environment running 3.4.4 that this option cannot be selected for Windows
2012 guests.

Does anyone know what will happen to the console on VMs running windows
2012 if we upgrade to 3.4.4 on our production environment ?

Will it simply not work resulting in us having to power down the affected
VMs or will the existing VMs carry on working with the spice console
setting ?

Thanks

Hi Jose,

Cool it works for you. Please note however that this way, you will need
to update the client manually (there is no auto-update feature in the
client currently).

Hi,

Finally it´s working.
What finally worked was installing the virt-viewer Windows client (
http://virt-manager.org/download/ ) , 64 bits in my case, and FireFox.
I wanted to associate with the ".vv" URL that opened when I clicked on the
console icon. I browsed around and selected \Program

Hi,

oVirt (or if it's even possible). the wiki page is outdated.
- Concerning .vv file - this way to connect to console assumes the client to
have virt-viewer installed (there is msi installer for windows here [1]). You
can install the msi on your client machine and associate .vv file with
'remote-viewer' application (maybe the association is done automatically, I

Re: [ovirt-users] Spice

2014-10-10 Thread Frantisek Kobzik
Hi,

 - As for the activex plugin, I need to do some reseach how to make it run on
oVirt (or if it's even possible). the wiki page is outdated.
 - Concerning .vv file - this way to connect to console assumes the client to
have virt-viewer installed (there is msi installer for windows here [1]). You
can install the msi on your client machine and associate .vv file with
'remote-viewer' application (maybe the association is done automatically, I
don't know it by heart).

Hope it helps!

Cheers,
Franta.

Hi Franta,

- yes is about active-x browser plugin
- There was no /us/share/spice directory on the engine machine, only
spice-html5. I create the directory and copied this files:
virt-viewer-0.5.3.exe, virt-viewer.inf, version, from .cab file (still no luck)
- Didn´t try IE9

By native console mode, do you mean running this command? engine-config -s
ClientModeSpiceDefault=value , where value is one of Auto , Plugin or Native .

Thanks

Hi Jose,

couple of questions:
- are you talking about active-x browser plugin?
- Do you have plugin *.cab files installed on the engine machine (in
/usr/share/spice directory).
- Does the feature work in IE9?

If the answer to all questions above is Yes, then crash may be caused by bug
when embedding plugin in page DOM. I'm afraid it's the problem in any 3.4
oVirt. The problem will be fixed in oVirt 3.5.

As a workaround you can use 'Native' console mode. But in this case you must
have virt-viewer application installed on your client (windows) machine.

Cheers,
Franta.

I don't remember if it is ok and works to set up the squid part on engine

How do I get the spice client to connect to a VM through the portal instead of
attempting to connect directly to the VM? For example. I allow access to the
engine portal over our WAN to a NATed IP address. The users on the other side
of the WAN do not have access to the real VM IP addresses. When they click on
the console access button, they are unable to connect to the VM. I believe this
is because it using attempting a direct connection instead of proxying through

Re: [ovirt-users] Spice / VNC / noVNC : browser side default config

2014-08-11 Thread Frantisek Kobzik
Hi Nicolas,

you're right - most settings are stored only on client browser local storage
only. If i'm correct, you can only affect per-engine default value of client
console mode (i.e. which client is used for invoking console [browser
plugin/native client ...]).

Storing per-protocol options is not implemented, however it could be a nice
future feature.

Cheers,
Franta.

Is there a way to choose (server side) those settings so as they get

It's off.
Setting it to on did solve the issue.

I have selinux-policy-3.12.1-166.fc20.noarch installed. Is it intended
that the boolean is still off? I'm not aware of the SELinux update
policy if activating booleans is allowed or not. For this issue it would
be good, but on the other hand if I change it manually (for whatever
reason) I wouldn't want it to be changed by the package...

The policy is to keep the currently set value - the value is not being reset to
the new default when updating the selinux policy (as you assumed). So if you
did update It should be still off.

Ok, thanks for the information.
I did add the solution (set boolean manually to on) to the bug report
and closed it.

René

the new default when updating the selinux policy (as you assumed). So if you
did update It should be still off.

Rene,
What's the value of mozilla_plugin_use_spice sebool - "getsebool
mozilla_plugin_use_spice"? Make it on if it's off - "setsebool -P
mozilla_plugin_use_spice on"
If This is the problem It should be solved in selinux-policy-3.12.1-116.fc20
(https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1049491)

If 'spice-client' is spicec (you can check with ps while it's running
for example), then it does not support USB redirection. Did you try
using virt-viewer on this debian system?

Did you try the native client on Debian? Maybe the spice-xpi version is
too old - if you don't see the menu it's a quite old spice-xpi version.

During my tests it was only possible to automatically mount USB devices
with the native client, not with the spice-xpi...

I just tested USB redirection with a Fedora 20 client to a Fedora 20

It works, but:

select the USB device I want to redirect

- With native client USB redirection works out of the box

Btw, I also figured out that Fedora 20 (the client) blocks USB
