Dirtlink has been doing this randomly for a month or more now. I've had
bunches of complaints that people can't send me mail because of 'due to
extended inactivity".

I tried sending the dirtlink admin account some earthlink phish the other

I strongly suspect that Earthlink has begun to do some strange anti-spam
stuff - and don't quite have the bugs worked out. We got this this morning,
for the first time ever:

and we're on a T1, with rDNS for everything, and not on any of the dnsbl

Whoa, stop right there.

look in /etc/sysconfig/spamd

You will see that the default for Suse is to launch spamd with
command line parameters "-d -c -L"

The -L is turning off your network tests.

Whack that file, and you are good to go. Just remove -L

Our sales force use Goldmine and (assuming it hasn't corrupted its own
database on that day), when they forward stuff onto us Goldmine discards
the whole of the message headers just as you say. It also forwards only
the rendered form of the message body and I suspect that is all it stores.
I get the impression its customer email tracking was a badly bolted-on
afterthought to sales phone call tracking and sales notes.

Ours is on a system I don't have access to, but maybe you can see if there
is anything usable in the DB which you could write a script to extract.

I think you will probably have to keep a separate copy of all incoming mail
though. If you have a support contract with whoever sells it, maybe you
could ask them to help in extracting un-mangled mail ?

There is another possibility that may: does Goldmine expose its
mailboxes using a standard protocol (typically and hopefully IMAP)?

If so, you may be able to use a method that is common with Exchange:
set up shared (public) train-spam and train-ham folders that users can
move messages to, and that the SA host can access remotely via IMAP.

There have been a lot of discussions here about doing this with
Exchange; it may work for you as well.

Is there a possibility of setting up a mail folder on the server that
users can just move the messages to? Moving and copying messages
between folders typically does not mangle them.

Broad outline: if the mail stays on the server and is accessed via
IMAP, then set up a spam-training and ham-training folder in each
user's account, and have them copy or move messages to those folders.
SA can then learn from them directly.

You can run spamd in debug mode. You don't specify the commandline you're

rotating the training folders monthly so that sa-learn doesn't have to

Intergrating RAZOR & DCC to SA

2007-03-09 Thread Mailing Lists

Hello All,

I have done an install of SA version 3.1.7 on SUSE 10.2. A couple of remote
mail servers will be connecting to server via port 783 - so far all works
good from the SA end.

I also installed RAZOR and DCC but I cant get SA to use Razor and DCC when
SA is running as a service, obviously I must have missed something in the
installation readme but for the life of me I cant figure out what I missed.

RAZOR and DCC will scan and be invoked if I manually run SA using for
example echo "test" | spamassassin -D

But when spamd service is running I dont see razor and dcc invoked (I base
this on the logs).

For DCC I have the following in v310.pre:

# DCC - perform DCC message checks.
#
# DCC is disabled here because it is not open source. See the DCC
# license for more details.
#
loadplugin Mail::SpamAssassin::Plugin::DCC

# Razor2 - perform Razor2 message checks.
#
loadplugin Mail::SpamAssassin::Plugin::Razor2

In local.cf I have

# Enable or disable network checks
skip_rbl_checks 1
use_razor2 1
use_dcc 1
use_pyzor 0

# Default Razor settings, hardcoded
loadplugin Mail::SpamAssassin::Plugin::Razor2
razor_config /razor/razor-agent.conf

loadplugin Mail::SpamAssassin::Plugin::DCC
dcc_path /usr/local/bin/dccproc

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks much,

William

GMail is now signing their mail with DKIM

2007-03-09 Thread Mark Martinec
In case this came by unnoticed, gmail.com is adding DKIM signatures
to their outgoing mail - for about two weeks now. Some initial
problems seem to be solved by now.

For verifying signatures stick to the most current versions of Mail::DKIM
(0.23) when checking from a SpamAssassin DKIM plugin or through dkimproxy.

If using a milter, the dkim-milter is at 0.6.1 now, stick to the most
recent version.

I updated slightly the howto to reflect the current situation:
  http://www.ijs.si/software/amavisd/amavisd-new-docs.html#dkim

Some selected recent notes from a [dkim-milter-discuss] mailing list,
I hope you don't mind (btw, Murray is the developer of dkim-milter):

Murray S. Kucherawy:
GMail now signs with DKIM ...and it verifies with 0.6.1. Good stuff!

Ben Lentz:
They must have *just* fixed that. I noticed they were doing DKIM a week
or more ago, but I couldn't get it to verify. Now it does! Awesome!

Murray S. Kucherawy:
They had an experimental implementation that wasn't quite right.
Michael from Cisco was working with them to get it in line.
Apparently they pushed a patch recently because it's working today.

  I don't think they're verifying inbound (yet) but I would imagine it's
in the plan. This is exciting stuff though because it should encourage
momentum toward more widespread adoption. Everyone else was saying "We'll
do it when everyone else does it" so we needed one big trailblazer to get
the ball rolling. Maybe this is it.
[...]

  - Yahoo has said they'll move to DKIM as soon as they can get enough
developer cycles to do so and the spec has solidified.

  - I'm in discussions with AOL about altering libdkim to meet their
  integration needs.

Duplicating a bayes database

2007-03-09 Thread kshatriyak

Hello,

I'm already using spamassassin with a shared bayes database for quite a
while. As a result, this database is quite well trained for the spam that
I receive and I'm very happy with the results.

Now, I need to install another server (which will serve other domains),
the setup is similar and I would like to install SpamAssassin as well
ofcourse.

My question, can I just copy the bayes database to the "new" server (so
that it doesn't need training from the start) ? Or is this too tricky, are
there any caveats I'm not seeing?

Thank you!
K.
