Have you never been subscribed to someone's mailing list without your 
permission? I have (though the software didn't use list-id).

YES. It is something sa-learn spam/ham *should* fix, is not it?

I have suggested List-id: whitelisting as one of alternatives to
Return-Path: whitelisting. Promoting RFC compliance is not a bad 
thing, is it? :-)

Some may dislike idea of creating entry for every Return-Path:.

I think I have seen at least one mailing list with varying  envelope
sender (VERP variant) in message I have received.

Could you state your position more clearly?
You for adding return-path: *only* whitelisting, are not your?
