Taking mirror Backup of SVN Repos through 3rd Party Software
Hi Guys! We are using 3rd party software that take (Copy/Paste) Backup of all databases of SVN on differential basis. I have some confusion. What's in all these *.txn folders (33740-q3q.txn, 1757-1d0.txn, 33753-q43.txn) Please guide ? Are they of any use? What is their importance for Us? Could they be ignored or excluded? For some reason new set of files that are being dropped into these folders and they happen to be Alternate data streams, and which we do not seem to be able to pseudo mirror. This has the effect that every child directory of a working copy is itself a working copy. SVN 1.7 wants to centralise this, i.e. only use a single place to store this. This won't be configurable, won't it? I always found it really practical to be able to just copy/move entire sub folders of my working copy to a new location and have a functional working copy, without the need to checkout over and over again. There will be a detach command to support this use case eventually. So far it's not present in trunk so probably not in 1.7, but later. In the meantime, you'll just have to live without this technically unsupported use case which only worked because of a side-effect of the 1.6 working copy design. RE: Stress-Testing of SVN
Subversion client works in Disconnected mode unless you go to perform some function(s) that really create session with server unless it ends. Whenever you need to test subversion performance and server load ; keep the following parameters in your mind:- · CPU Usage and monitoring · SVN Logs · Hard disk space w.r.to repo size on which repos database : · RAM usage · Loading bulk amount of users etc etc :. Depends on OS you are using PS: Specially when performance during massive Commits or Massive checkouts or Increasing load of users on server using Commit, checkouts etc :.. I used these all. We have Visual SVN on server side with 1000 GB of data for svn repos. TSVN on client side. Good server specs and RAM/HD as well. It's been so long that I can't recommend one to you, unfortunately. -- David Chapman dcchap...@acm.org Chapman Consulting -- San Jose, CA Even I have changed the slashed but the message was same. Please advice. Did you change both lines? I also see forward slashes in the line which is described as SEND THE EMAIL at the very end. For that matter, this line looks wrong too. Earlier, you set the variable DIR to E:\Repositories\WSBokhari\hooks. The value of this variable will be substituted whenever %DIR% appears. Thus if you have SET MESSAGE_FILE=%DIR%\message.txt this is the same as SET MESSAGE_FILE=E:\Repositories\WSBokhari\hooks\message.txt and the value of this variable will be substituted whenever %MESSAGE_FILE% appears, as it does on the last line. If you replace the forward slashes in the last line with backslashes and perform the substitution of %MESSAGE_FILE%, the first word of the line will become E:\Repositories\WSBokhari\E:\Repositories\WSBokhari\hooks\message.txt, which is obviously an invalid Windows path name. The message file is clearly not intended to include the name of the mail program, so you need to supply the name of the E-mail program. I don't know what that would be. Nor do I know the command-line parameters for the E-mail program, so I cannot tell you whether the syntax of this line is correct. But if your E-mail send program is E:\Repositories\WSBokhari\hooks\send_message.exe and it accepted the parameters you have listed, the last line of the batch program would be: E:\Repositories\WSBokhari\hooks\send_message.exe %MESSAGE_FILE% %server% %to% %from% %subj% %auth% You really need a book
