Yes, of course. Mail-1.4.jar is from May 2006. I'm not even sure if TLS existed
back then.

Hi all,

I have a COTS webapp using Tomcat 8.0.43 and Java 1.8.0_121. I have been
trying to find out where to configure outbound smtp messages to use only
TLS1.2. I've found plenty of info on the https using TLS1.2 and have
configured that just fine in server.xml file and in the Java tab of the
tomcatw.exe file, but that doesn't seem to be applying to the emails
outgoing from the webapp. Anyone have any ideas? (Also upgrading is not an
option as this tomcat/java combo is the only one supported by the vendor for
our webapp version).

Thank you!

The html-body contains the response I would expect. Because there is no
Content-Length-Header or
chunked encoding or Connection: close or what ever, a browser is not able
to determine when
the response has to be closed. I looks like the browser hangs - until a timeout
is triggered.
Like I said before: the request before was a request with a Content-Length:
0-Header (and no content)
and I suppose it has to do with the error afterwards.

No, I copied it directly from the log file. I have always these 5 lines of

However I have the same lines in that case at 09:04:05.

Rainer,

I checked the complete log file. There are no other messages for hours, except
these group of entries.
IIS was restarted at 01:30. However it sometimes says closing socket -1.
Looks strange, because I
think -1 is not a valid socket number:

Could the problem be related to
http://issues.apache.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=49413 that
was fixed in version 1.2.31? Or other AJP fixes in Tomcat since version 5.5.27?

I see some responses to earlier requests just before the error occurs with
content-length=0,
what is correct in that situation, but could that cause the error afterwards?

ISAPI-Problem

2010-10-27 Thread Jost Richstein

Hi,

I have the following problem on a Windows Server 2003 64Bit (AMD).

Configuration:
IIS 6, isapi_redirect.dll AMD64 Version 1.2.30, Tomcat 5.5.27, JDk 1.6.0_12
64Bit.

I am using the following small worker.properties:

 ps=\

 worker.ajp13.port=8010
 worker.ajp13.host=localhost
 worker.ajp13.type=ajp13
 worker.ajp13.connection_pool_size=500

My isapi_redirect.properties contains only (no other parameters set)

extension_uri
log_file
log_level (error)
worker_file
worker_mount_file

My Tomcat site works fine in general, there are up to 1.400 users active and
the site
answers requests very fast. However I have the following log entries every few
minutes
(sometimes every few seconds) in jk.log. Every time that pair of entries:

 [Wed Oct 27 12:15:37.764 2010] [3156:3284] [error]
ajp_service::jk_ajp_common.c (2559): (ajp13) connecting to tomcat failed.

HttpExtensionProc::jk_isapi_plugin.c (2195): service() failed with http error
500

And I do not have any other log entries in Tomcat- or Application Log. The
client receives
an incomplete HTTP-Response, the response has no Content-Length header and no
content,
for example.

Any hints or ideas?

Regards,
Jost

Thank you for the answers.

I see one additional problem. If I deploy two different versions of
the web app on the same tomcat, it is not possible configurate them
separately.

That's important for me, because I have only a limited number of
servers and I have to deploy more than one version at the same time.

Any additional ideas?

Then my webapp can read the filename using a System.getProperty()
call.
System properties are at JVM level, so it is quite possible to have
two webapps which will use common property names.

Not if I'm careful when writing the apps and naming their properties
files. Definitely could be a consideration, though, depending on
the environment they're running in.
I just know the pain when it comes to host third party apps which use
such configuration strategy.

Re: [OT] if don't work?!?!?

2007-05-22 Thread Jost Richstein

No, that is not guaranteed to be false.
For example

  Pippo.intern() == Pluto.intern()

should be true.

   if (Pippo == on) {

Guaranteed to be false.

Pippo =  request.getParameter(abilitato);
Pluto =  request.getParameter(abilitato);

the if (Pippo == Pluto ) don't work!

Also guaranteed to be false.

You need to learn Java before embarking on writing webapps for any
container. The test you're making is one for object equality, not
content equality. Your expression should be something like:

if (Pippo.equals(on))

Re: IIS Experience Anyone?

2007-03-05 Thread Jost Richstein

Some remarks:

- Sometimes the dll does not run correctly due to access rights in windows.
 The easiest way to avoid that is to use a windows installer of the dll
that

 will handle all that for you. Version 1.2.15 provides an installer as far
 as I remember (*.msi). Give it a try just to see if that helps.

- Different Windows versions handle ISAPI-DLL's differently. On Windows 2003
 servers you explicitly have to permit the execution of a web extension
 (in addition to the usual installation). See the IIS snap in.

- We were using IIS and Tomcat in almost every thinkable combination:
Windows2000,

 XP, Vista, Windows Server 2003 with different version of IIS.

- did you configure workers.properties and uriworkermap.properties
correctly?

Scott Danforth schrieb:
Hi! Yes, I have problems. The filter shows up correctly in IIS, and it
executes fine up to the point where it needs to talk to Tomcat. Then
nothing further on that page request appears in the log, and The
specified module could not be found is returned as the result of the
page request.

My previous messages to the group were submitted wth the subject: IIS
Plugin can't find Module ?? It seems like this is just about the only
symptom of failure that anyone reports.

Here's from my the last submission:

Because I'm getting Windows Active/X error messages in response to
servlet requests, it appears that my problem has to do with
environmental assumptions that are not satisfied by my version of IIS
5.0 on Windows XP. I've read that the version of IIS included with XP
is not the full version, so perhaps that's the problem. Who knows...

But, my reason for experimenting is that I need to use Tomcat servlets
on Unix servers from IIS 6.0 on a Windows 2003 system to which I do
not yet have access. And now, since I've struck out trying to
experiment with my desktop system, I'm curious about other people's
experiences.

If you've tried to use ISAPI_redirect.dll v 1.2.20 (successfully, or
not), could you reply with a few words? For example, what Windows OS
and IIS versions we're you using?

Consider the following scenario (my case once...):

   * you don't know/use Windows at all
   * you have a customer for j2ee app
   * your customer wants to integrate app server the app runs on with
 his IIS
   * it's enough to be scared ;-)

Re: PermGen space

2007-02-16 Thread Jost Richstein

You assume a memory leak...well, that depends on the application. 64m as
PermSize is not always enough for server site applications. But I agree:
if there is a memory leak you will find it most likely in the application.

Mark Thomas schrieb:

Jost Richstein wrote:

Use for example -XX:MaxPermSize=128m as a parameter to the VM to extend
the PermSize. Default is 64m.

This will delay the time to the OOM error but it won't fix it. What
you really need to do is get hold of a profiler and find out what
memory is leaking memory where. It might be Tomcat but is more likely
to be your application.

Re: Increasing Tomcat/Java memory

2006-03-24 Thread Jost Richstein

These settings are stored in the r egistry if you are running Tomcat
as windows service. Usually you have a small applet installed that
allows you to edit the setttings. If do not see the applet, try to
execute

   Tomcat\bin\tomcat5w.exe //ES//TomcatServiceName

where TomcatServiceName is your Windows Servicename for
Tomcat.

Harald Henkel wrote:

Hello everybody.

How can I increase the memory Tomcat/Java is using?

I tried setting CATALINA_OPTS with -server -Xms256m -Xmx512m
but runtime.totalMemory always seems to return a value around 60MB.

And there are some operations (exporting several thousand database
records to an Excel file) where we receive out of memory errors.
Unfortunately I don't yet know the exact error text and where it is
displayed...

Yet, if the server (including database) is rebootet it works, so it
seems to be a problem with Tomcat (oracle doesn't seem to have a problem,
because the data is already dispalyed in a table genereated by tomcat
(JSP).

Only if I try to export this data to an exel file, the problem arised.

This is on Windows XP Pro SP2.

Anybody got an idea? Can this be due to Tomcat memory management? How to
change it correctly on windows ?

Somewhere I saw -ms and -mx insead of -Xms and -Xmx

Any help appreciated!

With kind regards,
Harald Henkel
