If you want to stick with a 5.x version, 5.5.x still works very well, but 6.x is nice and stable, and will still run on Java 5. Also is the Tomcat 5.0.18 still a supported version? How do you define supported? Tomcat is an open source project. There is no support, other than the help you can get on this list. I've heard of companies that offer support for Tomcat for a fee.
