Based on above table we will plan which tomcat is long term supported so that
we can use it for our software.
Arguably all our major versions receive long term support. They are
generally supported for around 10 years.
Note that, as previously discussed, 10.0.x is EOL now that 10.1.x is stable.
We support 3 major releases in parallel. So 8.5.x will be EOL when
11.0.x is stable (best guess ~April 2024). There should be a formal
announcement for 8.5.x soon.
Then, major releases are typically released every 3 to 3.5 years.
9.x is a special case since it is the last version that supports Java
EE. The exact plan is TBD but rather than 9.0.x being made EOL, there
will be something like a 9.10.x (10.1.x but with the Java EE API) and
then 9.11.x etc for as long as there is user demand and committer
support for providing it.
If you are starting a project now, use 10.x.
