Re: [ANNOUNCE] Apache Zeppelin 0.6.0 released

2016-07-07 Thread Benjamin Kim
Moon,

My environmental setup consists of an 18 node CentOS 6.7 cluster with 24 cores,
64GB, 12TB storage each:
3 of those nodes are used as Zookeeper servers, HDFS name nodes, and a YARN
resource manager
15 are for data nodes
jdk1.8_60 and CDH 5.7.1 installed

Another node is an app server, 24 cores, 128GB memory, 1TB storage. It has
Zeppelin 0.6.0 and Livy 0.2.0 running on it. Plus, Hive Metastore and
HiveServer2, Hue, and Oozie are running on it from CDH 5.7.1.

This is our QA cluster where we are testing before deploying to production.

If you need more information, please let me know.

Thanks,
Ben

FYI, the Helium logs in the console should be on master, but not on 0.6.0
branch.
Those 500 errors should not have any effect when running.

it seems you have conflicting binaries between the two machines. check the

Zeppelin not picking up MASTER in zeppelin-env.sh

2016-07-07 Thread Pedro Rodriguez
I am working on upgrading to 0.6.0 and running into issues where I define
zeppelin-env.sh but Zeppelin doesn't seem to pickup values from there.

Here is what I have done
1. Download copy of zeppelin binaries and unpack
2. Copy conf/zeppelin-site.xml.template and conf/zeppelin-env.sh.template
to the files without .template
3. Modified the site file to configure S3 access (works)
4. Modify zeppelin-env.sh file with:
export SPARK_HOME=/path/to/spark
export MASTER=spark://sparkdomain.com:7077

When I start the Zeppelin server it seems to fall back to local[*] which is
the default making me think it is not picking up the env file. S3 is
working so it is picking up the xml file. I also tried a property like
below but this didn't work either:

  master
  spark://10.100.11.198
  Spark Master

Any ideas? The settings seemed to work in 0.5.6

Zeppelin reports unable to connect to master but master webUI is up and shows connected workers

2016-07-07 Thread B00083603 Michael O Brien
Hi,

I created a new notebook and added sc as the only paragraph. When I run it I
get errors displayed org.apache.thrift.transport.TTransportException

Looking at the spark interpreter logs it shows the master as unresponsive.

I can view the master webpage on http://vm-20161023-002:8080/ which shows the 2
worker nodes connected which die when I shut them down. There are no
applications listed on the Web UI and no historic list of applications as this
is my first cluster

I can ping from zeppelin the master vm.

I also removed the conf/zeppelin.sh setting where i specified my own spark
install on zeppelin

Any pointers whats I'm doing wrong?

Michael

instead (and swapping over to Oracle JDK in the meantime) I have zeppelin web UI

Thanks for the help

Hi.
There are three types of zeppelin 6.0.
One is source that you should build to use and Two are binary version that you
don't need to build to use.
What did you get?

Hi all,

I was hoping to use Zeppelin for some data analysis but I'm having trouble
installing it using the pre-built package.

I download the tar and extract to /usr/share/zeppelin so its
/usr/share/zeppelin/zeppelin0.6.0/

I have default jdk installed and JAVA_HOME set as
/usr/lib/jvm/java-7-openjdk-amd64 by editing /etc/environment

java version "1.7.0_101"

OpenJDK Runtime Environment (IcedTea 2.6.6) (7u101-2.6.6-0ubuntu0.14.04.1)
OpenJDK 64-Bit Server VM (build 24.95-b01, mixed mode)

When I run /bin/zeppelin-daemon.sh start it initially creates the log folders
and reports
Zeppelin start [ OK ]
Zeppelin process died [FAILED]

The log file zeppelin-username-computername.out just contains "Error: Could not
find or load main class org.apache.zeppelin.server.ZeppelinServer"

Any pointers on how I can get the pre-built zeppelin working?

Michael

Re: Error installing Zeppelin 0.6.0 on Ubuntu 14.04 using pre build package

2016-07-07 Thread Hyung Sung Shim
Hi.
There are three types of zeppelin 6.0.
One is source that you should build to use and Two are binary version that
you don't need to build to use.
What did you get?

Re: Passing command line params when cell is evaluated?

2016-07-07 Thread Felix Cheung
This should be captured in a log file under /logs of Zeppelin binaries.

This specific warning, in believe, might be coming from the way Zeppelin is
calling spark-submit?

When I execute a few lines of Spark/Scala code, I get back the following:

warning: there were 1 deprecation warning(s); re-run with -deprecation for
details

(I think this occurs in some of the sample notebooks, too). I'm guessing this
would be what I would do if passing the code on the command line to Spark. How
can I see the deprecation warning within Zeppelin?

Thanks,
