[USMA:52807] FW: Petition Response: Supporting American Choices on Measurement
I'm not quite sure what to make of this. It's a pathetic response if I may be honestSent from Yahoo! Mail for iPhone
[USMA:52459] RE: Ferrari Introduces world's fastest road car at Geneva
Alot of US media coverage of this car seem to forget the LaFerrari was designed, and tested in only SI units. They refer to the length and weight of the car in ye olde English units but no metric units are even mentioned. Sent from Yahoo! Mail for iPhone
[USMA:52414] RE: (8) GoMetricAmerica
Sorry. I misread your email. Disregard my previous lengthy email. I had thought you were saying Proctor&Gamble opposed the FPLA amendment. The Food Marketing Institute certainly does which may be why they have not responded to my email letterSent from Yahoo! Mail for iPhone
[USMA:52413] RE: (8) GoMetricAmerica
I believe Proctor&Gamble is actually in favor of updating the FPLA to allow metric only as they have been using metric very often in the first labeling section of their products, which to me is a sign they have been transitioning all their product sizes, both US and international to metric based sizes. But I'm not sure about soda companies. Ill write to them.Sent from Yahoo! Mail for iPhone
[USMA:52410] RE: (8) GoMetricAmerica
I'm still elaborating of ideas to suggest. I've written to my representative but I know that we need to do more. I was going to try to make flyers, but I still am relearning to use Microsoft publisher. I may start contacting packaging companies and try to persuade them to support the FPLA amendment like you were saying. A big thing in my opinion is to get more of the general public on board with supporting it as wellSent from Yahoo! Mail for iPhone
[USMA:52408] RE: (8) GoMetricAmerica
I'd love to help in any way I can. Ill look for your page and share it on my site as well. Sent from Yahoo! Mail for iPhone
[USMA:52406] RE: (8) GoMetricAmerica
It's not sponsored but I am still working on it. I have a lot of work to do on the page and the website which I need to buy the domain name for. It's not the greatest but I'm doing my best to improve it. Sent from Yahoo! Mail for iPhone
[USMA:52358] RE: Metric Coverage of Asteroid 2012-DA-14
Unfortunately it's going to take quite a bit of effort to get media to use only metric. All the letters I've written to media groups go ignored. So I'm at a bit of a loss. But Bill Nye, from what I understand, tends to use only SI for the most part. Sent from Yahoo! Mail for iPhone
[USMA:52326] RE: FW: Political metric supporters?
That sounds like a good idea. If the US and EU were to become closer again it could open the door for an opportunity to get the FPLA amended despite the EU continuing to allow products to be shipped there with dual labels. If I'm wrong on that, correct me. I'm not 100% about the labeling issueSent from Yahoo! Mail for iPhone
[USMA:52324] Political metric supporters?
Hey everyone. I'm currently starting to compile a list of people in congress who might be in favor of metric conversion. Has anyone found somebody I could put on the list? My goal is to get a list written down and contact each person who supports metrication. Sent from Yahoo! Mail for iPhone
[USMA:52281] RE: FW: Fwd: The Metric System, the United States of America, and Scientific Literacy | Sci-Ed
100% open to that idea. We could share ideas and coordinate efforts to promote metric usage. A meeting sounds like a great idea.
[USMA:52264] Re: Hennessey Venom GT Sets The Fastest 0-300km/h Production Car Record
Most car magazines I read usually quote power to weight ratios as "hp/lb" or in the case of UK publications "bhp/kg". I suspect Australia and New Zealand quote it as kW/kg. I've seen a few US based articles quote the venoms power to weight as hp/kg alongside hp/lb which surprised me. Sent from Yahoo! Mail for iPhone
[USMA:52263] Re: 1.5 liter bottles
I know it was kind of a silly question but I hadn't really seen 1.5L bottles often. Just wanted to know if they've been around for awhile. Apple juice does seem to come in rounded metric sizes in alot of packaging thoughSent from Yahoo! Mail for iPhone
[USMA:52258] 1.5 liter bottles
Has anyone come across these bottle sizes before? I had seen plenty of 500 mL, 1 liter, 2L and 2.5 liter bottle sizes, but not 1.5 liters which in this case I'm referring to soda bottles. Just wondering if its a newer size or if I just hadn't been looking hard enough. It's been awhile since I had examined bottle sizes so I'm not sure. Apologies if I was behind the loop.
[USMA:52257] Re: Oddball measurement
Definitely had not seen that 299 mL coca cola container before. Ill keep an eye out if theyre still around. I did see a liquid container labeled as being over 1100 mL. Unfortunately I forgot the name but I don't usually see labels describing milliliters over 1000. Usually it switched to a label using liters. Don't know the story of that one.
[USMA:52250] RE: Oddball measurement
I find it weird when they label like that. Then there's the infamous 100 Fl OZ containers such as Tide products. Consumers, I don't think can often relate to 100 fl oz = ? Gallons/quarts. Makes my head hurt thinking about that conversion. 1000 mL= 1 liter is much easier to understand
[USMA:52248] RE: current status of the Hawaii metric bill, H.B. 36
Ill be at a bit of a loss if the petition is not presented. It did hit the old threshold which should still require a response. Sent from Yahoo! Mail for iPhone
[USMA:52247] RE: current status of the Hawaii metric bill, H.B. 36
I quite like that proposal actually
[USMA:52243] RE: current status of the Hawaii metric bill, H.B. 36
It's a pretty big mess in terms of measurement right now. I'm still waiting to see if the White House responds to the metric petitionSent from Yahoo! Mail for iPhone
[USMA:52235] RE: current status of the Hawaii metric bill, H.B. 36
Well in any case I've contacted my state governor, my local representative, the Food Marketing Institute, and the president. The only response so far is from my representative who actually gave me a more positive response then I expected. I'm not expecting the others to respond however, especially the Food Marketing Institute. If there's any people I've missed just let me know. Sent from Yahoo! Mail for iPhone
[USMA:52232] RE: current status of the Hawaii metric bill, H.B. 36
That's what we have to find out. Especially other legislative folks who are in favor of this bill. We should get in touch with the other supporters as well. I'll be looking for them once I can find more info about HB 36Sent from Yahoo! Mail for iPhone
[USMA:52231] RE: FW: Metric system flyers/posters
Awesome. That helps me. Thank you. I'm still working on paper size but those should fit wellSent from Yahoo! Mail for iPhone
[USMA:52229] RE: current status of the Hawaii metric bill, H.B. 36
Regarding Karl Rhoads, I think we should get in contact with him and get some more info on HB 36Sent from Yahoo! Mail for iPhone
[USMA:52228] RE: current status of the Hawaii metric bill, H.B. 36
That's what frustrates me. They spent money to go BACK to customary units. Sent from Yahoo! Mail for iPhone
[USMA:52227] Metric system flyers/posters
Hey folks. I've been planning on making flyers which talk about how going metric will benefit America. I wanna pass them out to people but am looking for ideas on how to start.
[USMA:52224] RE: current status of the Hawaii metric bill, H.B. 36
This bill could be a stepping stone for changing pumps and signs in other states as well. But right now we just have to wait. That's always the worst partSent from Yahoo! Mail for iPhone
[USMA:52222] RE: current status of the Hawaii metric bill, H.B. 36
What's the situation with gas pumps? Isn't it legal to sell gas by the liter? Correct me if I'm wrong but aren't pumps covered under the UPLR? Just wondering.
[USMA:52218] RE: current status of the Hawaii metric bill, H.B. 36
CalTrans actually went back to using imperial units from last I heard. It's unfortunate considering they had a plan to implement metric in new projects. Sent from Yahoo! Mail for iPhone
[USMA:52216] RE: current status of the Hawaii metric bill, H.B. 36
The Hawaii bill HB36, if it is approved could cause a domino effect on other states due to the need for uniformity. I'm sorry if this is a duplicate email. I meant to send the last one to everybody. Sent from Yahoo! Mail for iPhone
[USMA:52215] RE: current status of the Hawaii metric bill, H.B. 36
I believe they still do have that option. The problem is most states don't seem to be motivated to change or update ANY of their weights and measures laws locally. Sent from Yahoo! Mail for iPhone
[USMA:52209] RE: current status of the Hawaii metric bill, H.B. 36
I'm going to try to gain more support for this bill. It's one that could set the country on a faster path to usage of SI
[USMA:52206] Hawaii metric bill?
http://www.capitol.hawaii.gov/session2013/Bills/HB36_.HTM. Here's the link. Hopefully it works. Can somebody dig some more information about this? I couldn't find anything on it but a fellow metric supporter sent it to me recentlySent from Yahoo! Mail for iPhone
[USMA:52198] RE: SI-Only Labeling
I do hope the amendment will be presented to congress. The FPLA I believe has mostly been the same since 1994. It's time for it to be updated.
[USMA:52195] Re: Hello
Thank you Mr.Trusten. I'm looking forward to talking to fellow metric supporters. It'll be a big help as I am always looking for ideas to promote SISent from Yahoo! Mail for iPhoneSent from Yahoo! Mail for iPhone
[USMA:52190] RE: Hello
Well I've been promoting it on a Facebook page, through twitter and a website I'm building and the metric usage I'm promoting is mostly in daily life although trade is another use I encourage. Sent from Yahoo! Mail for iPhone
[USMA:52188] Hello
Hey everyone. I'm Derry ODell. I had been reading the emails on here for a while but wanted to introduce myself. I've been a metric advocate for some time but I'm having trouble trying to promote SI usage. Anyways I apologize as I know this email list is for more metric based discussions.
