[vchkpw] vpop 5.2.1 core dumps
Hi, I am running vpopmail-5.2.1 + seekable patch, with qmail and maildrop to filter messages marked as spam by Spamassassin to a spam folder). The system is FreeBSD-4.8. Now i had two servers setup exactly the same as described above, one works perfect, and the second one bombed out (See Below).. I was using .qmail and mailfilter in user's home directories to enable invoking spam assassin and moving spam message per user (SA prefs in SQL also). Everything was working fine on both servers up to this point. Then I removed the .qmail files that I created in those two users directories, and i created .qmail-default in the domain directory - example.com/ - to enable spam domain-wide (which I had used the same script I used before for a long time) Mail delivers fine to the first server, but the second one freaks out. qmail-send/current log shows: @40003f29d8c003dab79c delivery 1: deferral: Segmentation_fault_ (core_dumped)/ @40003f29d8c003dd43f4 status: local 0/10 remote 0/20 [..] @40003f29d8c82784d04c delivery 4: deferral: Sorry,_I_wasn't_able_to_establish_an_SMTP_connection._(#4.4.1)/ @40003f29d8c8278754d4 status: local 1/10 remote 0/20 @40003f29d8c912ea81a4 delivery 3: deferral: Segmentation_fault_ (core_dumped)/ syslog shows: Jul 31 14:29:42 coda2 /kernel: pid 53178 (vdelivermail), uid 500: exited on signal 11 (core dumped) Jul 31 14:36:13 coda2 /kernel: pid 53421 (vdelivermail), uid 500: exited on signal 11 (core dumped) Jul 31 14:36:13 coda2 /kernel: pid 53423 (vdelivermail), uid 500: exited on signal 11 (core dumped) Jul 31 19:58:52 coda2 /kernel: pid 77655 (vdelivermail), uid 500: exited on signal 11 (core dumped) Jul 31 20:00:32 coda2 /kernel: pid 77721 (vdelivermail), uid 500: exited on signal 11 (core dumped) For the users that were to have mail delivered in their mailbox, instead i find a vdelivermail.core in their directory. Re: [vchkpw] ETRN / serialmail-AUTOTURN with vpopmail - How to ?
you shouldnt have a domain in vpopmail when you use serialmail... so you can delete the lines. qmail will queue all the email which come to a domain into the autoturn directory you give to it, the client should have a static ip address which will connect to qmail-smtp, when the client connects, serialmail knows this client from the autoturn directory and will push all the emails from that clients autoturn directory to the client. etc. This approach has the drawback of queing mails for users which do not exist. RE: [vchkpw] I'm tiret of bounce mail that is bounced...!
You can do either or both of the following. Apply the checkuser patch. There is a modified one to work with vpopmail at http://www.shupp.org/ I have it working on 5.3.20 with mysql and it works a treat. And/Or echo doublebounce /var/qmail/control/doublebounceto echo '#' /var/qmail/alias/.qmail-doublebounce The second one is a good idea anyway if you have a high volume server cause it sends the doublebounce's to null. Systems Administrator / Developer I don't send them automatically, I'm dubious of automatic reporting and like to verify there is nothing unusual that will trip up trustics parser. I give them the quick once over, then do fwd as attach. I have my trustic address in my address book and as soon as I type the first character, it appears, hit enter and send. Bob's your uncle. A lot quicker than finding the offending IP, doing a lookup, finding the provider, then a abuse report etc. My experience from the smtp log so far is that for every 10 spamhaus denies, I get 8 trustic denies and 1 ordb. I have now removed my badmailfrom and tcp.smtp(allow,RBLSMTPD=-banned for spamming rules) as they are too fixed and ridgid whereas spamhaus, ordb and trustic are flexible, continuously updated, and people can get out if they fix their systems/procedures/TOS. Fair is fair. Natural justice, or due process as the yanks say. I expect trustic to get better as more people provide spam mails. I just installed vpopmail everything seems to be working well. I can receive mail. However when I try to send mail I get the following message: Your server has unexpectedly terminated the connection. Possible causes for 'xxx.xxx.com', Server: 'xxx.xxx.com', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 25, Secure(SSL) I am sure its a simple configuration problem but I can't find it. I have check my tcpserver setting, made sure that I configured for roaming users, etc and followed the directions but I still get this. Any help would be appreciated. Andrew

Re: [vchkpw] Error: Domain does not exist
Perhaps there is some problem with your qmail directory? normally vadddomain should add the domain to /var/qmail/control/virtualdomains /var/qmail/control/rcpthosts /var/qmail/users/assign if it doesnt know the correct path? Hi Martin, How do you get qmail to forward as attachments? This is a great idea, by the way! Yes, but better still, join up at http://www.trustic.com You can then forward those double bounces as attachments to the address they give you and volia, you add to the anti-spam listing. Also, set your qmail-smtp run file like this :- exec /usr/local/bin/tcpserver 0 smtp rblsmtpd \ -b -c -r sbl.spamhaus.org \ -b -c -r relays.ordb.org \ -b -c -r QUERYADDRESS \ qmail-smtpd 21 Replace QUERYADDRESS with your trustic assigned one. hup qmail and off you go. This is what I already do right now. In fact, I had been saving spam for several months now (I intended to use them to train SpamAss), so I used mutt to bounce over 5000 of them to Trustic over the weekend :-) I expect trustic to get better as more people provide spam mails. Indeed. Im waiting for the beta to end because one of my servers is marked as untrusted but I cannot claim it as that feature is switched off during the beta. (It was untrusted because one of our customer's servers was compromised and then used to send 50,000 spams through our mail server (which treated their mail server as a trusted relay!). -- Aj. - Original Message - From: Dave Richardson - Lists [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Saturday, August 02, 2003 5:16 AM Subject: [vchkpw] Losing messages when I move them? I run Courier1.7/Vpopmail5.2.1/Squirrel1.4.11(?)/Qmail (blah blah). Recently I've had messages get lost/deleted when I try to move them to another folder. If I use Mozilla, I'd drag-and-drop. If I use Squirrel, I'd mark and move-to-folder. Some messages move OK, others get lost. The lost ones don't go to Trash, they just disappear. No errors, nothing in the logs. Dont know if this is your answer or not... : I wrote a guide that shows how to build a server made out of qmail / vpopmail / courier-imap / squirrelmail etc http://www.pipeline.com.au/staff/mbowe/isp/webmail-server.htm Judging by the amount of feedback email that I get, and by the number of time I see this url quoted on mailing lists, it seems that quite a lot of people have used this guide to build mail servers Up until recently this guide had some notes in the courier-imap section that talked about the way that the IMAP_EMPTYTRASH function works. The notes showed how I had modded the maildirpurgetmp.c file so that it would delete files based on mtime rather than ctime. (For those of you who arent sure of what I am talking about here, you can read more info on this subject in the comments of the courier-imap/etc/imapd file) The mod I used was to change maildir/maildirpurgetmp.c (at around line 64) from stat_buf.st_ctime current_time - nage) to stat_buf.st_mtime current_time - nage) Now this mod worked as intended without problem up until June 2003, when I started receiving emails from people who had built servers according to my guide, but they were suddenly experiencing mail going missing after trying to move messages from one folder to another. Only messages that were more than a few days old seemed to be affected. After a bit of digging, we found that the problem only happened with the combination of the mod shown above, and PHP 4.3.x (which was released around June 2003) If you run the mod with PHP 4.2.x or earlier, messages would not go missing on move... I initially thought it unlikely that a change in PHP version would have caused this behaviour, but it was certainly repeatable by flipping the PHP versions on my own mail server between 4.2.x and 4.3.x I dont know why or how the newer version of PHP would trip up this mod, but it does seem to be the cause. [vchkpw] vpopmail 5.2.2 bug fixes

The current 5.3 series does that, and I'm back-porting some of the bugfixes from 5.3 for a 5.2.2 release. So far, 5.2.2 includes this patch, and the missing-backslash fix to mysql.h. If anyone else knows of outstanding problems with 5.2 (that were hopefully fixed in 5.3), please let me know. vpopmail 5.2.2 should include the parse_email function from vpopmail-5.3.5 The updated parse_email function from 5.3.5 fixes the problem that forces people to configure/compile courier-imap/sqwebmail --without-authdaemon http://bluedot.net/mail/archive/read.php?f=2i=4707t=4707 http://bluedot.net/mail/archive/read.php?f=2i=4849t=4821 http://sourceforge.net/mailarchive/message.php?msg_id=1821112 Michael.
[vchkpw] QmailAdmin New Look and Feel
Hello Everyone, Due to many requests, I have posted our patched New Look Feel for qmailadmin version 1.0.23 source on our website for download. Initially I had just the patched files on the site, but I have had an overwhelming amount of request from people that would like the already patched version so they wouldn't have to find the 1.0.23 version and then patch it themselves. The site has instruction on it. I still have the patched files for download as well along with our squirrelmail them that was also requested by many. As soon as the project goes to the next version and all of the html is moved from the sources into a template system, we will upgrade our stuff to work in the new system. At that time will fix the multi language problem with the images. Thanks all for you support and praise on the new look. These files can be downloaded at: http://www.somnioworld.com/qmailadmin.php Thank you, Justin C.

If you look in Courier-imap's changelog, for version 1.7.0 (changes made by Mr Sam on 2003-01-14), you will see: * maildir/maildircreateh.c (maildir_try_create_hostname): Include microseconds in message filename. When I migrated one of my servers from a courier-imap 1.6.2 to a courier-imap 1.7.0, I had the SAME problem that you are currently having. I think the problem manifests itself only in older messages with the older style names (I could be wrong). Does that problem happen only when you have IMAP_EMPTYTRASH enabled? Anyways, stick with 1.6.1 till Mr Sam, me, or someone else figures out a fix. Perhaps Mr. Sam could shed more light on the subject. I hope he didn't mind me cc'ing him on this, since I wanted to ask him anyhow. Best Regards, Tim
