In the two years more or less I'm using qmail have seen one little trouble with courier and vpopmail... not all versions of courier work well with every vpopmail... till now I have used qmailrocks courier-imap and vpopmail versions but... imagine that one of this versions become buggy how could we know wich version of vpopmail will work with wich one of courier?? only by compiling and benchmarking seeing if it supports reasonable loads? is there any board wich this information is specified? I have almost the same scenario here, running qmail, vpopmail courier under
XEN, but compiling from sources and not using from packages. And its on
Debian Etch, kernel 2.6.18-xen.
More strange, after install "make install-strip" and configure
courier-authlib to use authvchkpw, any user can login into POP and IMAP
services, but login not working with smtp-auth.
I simple do:
tar xzf vpopmail-5.4.25.tar.gz
cd vpopmail-5.4.25.tar.gz
./configure --enable-maildrop --enable-auth-module=mysql
--enable-mysql-limits --enable-valias --enable-qmail-ext

I got the same problem on x86_32 too. Always inside a PVM of XEN, out of
XEN, vchkpw works fine.
I do a workarround with my patched qmail (AUTH_CDB patch) from JMS qmail
patch, onchance script maintain a /var/qmail/control/auth.cdb in sync with
vpopmail user db, so I can login via smtp-auth with AUTH_CDB qmail patch.
But I'd like to see vchkpw working fine inside a virtual machine... :)
