Since this is a vchkpw list, and vchkpw is written in english. It's ok to
write just in english. If you mind write me in portuguese in private.

I do not understand what is the problem behaving adding a user to each
domain. Aren't *YOU* going to manage this? So why not creating a script
such as

#/bin/sh
/usr/sbin/adduser -batch $1 vchkpw $1 -shell /sbin/nologin
/usr/sbin/edquota -p prebuild10mbuser $1
/home/vpopmail/bin/vadddomain -u $1 $2

running it like 'sh adddomainscript.sh quotauser domain.psi.br'. IMHO it
is not so hard to run this simple script to manage your domains in
conjunction with an web administration interface, suck as qmailadmin. 2000
simple users, *NOT* logging to your machine won't interfere on the
system's reliability.

Use a per-user domain basis, aplying system quotas to each user.

as vpopmail user do:
- --
$ sudo adduser quotauser # (add user setting it's homedir to \
~vpopmail/domains/quotauser)
$ sudo edquota quotauser # (set quota do 1000)
$ ~vpopmail/bin/vadddomain -u quotauser virtualdomain.psi.br

How about making an instruction to write incoming mails
to a temporary directory and a 'crontab' program to check
if the mysql server has come up again. So the messages
don´t needed to be deferred every time the mysql server is
down.

Just a suggestion.

Outbound quota suggestion.

2001-09-04 Thread Eduardo Augusto Alvarenga

Hi all,

Forgive me about my english (it's not quite so good!)

My idea is:
When a user sucessfully authenticates on vchkpw the same schema used to allow
roaming users smtping, may be used to put a 'RELAYCLIENT' tag on the same line
of the 'allow' tag on the tcp.smtp file.

Example:

ro.am.ming.ip:allow,RELAYCLIENT="",DATABYTES=''

It may have a default outbound quota for everyone allowing any size
and a personal quota size for some emails, having a time period to expire,
like roaming users have

I'm suggesting this because I have this schema,
but to get this working I had to give the station a fixed ip on dhcpd,
and edit the tcp.smtp line by line to put the user on the right outbound
quota state.
Note: as you see, this solution is machine based, since it works only with a
determined ip number assigned by a dhcp config, it's stable and useful, but
hard to mantaing and very insecure, since user can easily change it's NIC's
MAC Address and run away with my smtp rules!)

In the future, qmailadmin support may be very very welcome ;)

Hope this idea is useful.

vpasswd bug ?

2001-08-21 Thread Eduardo Augusto Alvarenga

Hi,

I was building a new mail server for a client.
At the pop account creation, all worked fine.

I used something like this in a simple sh script:

--
#!/bin/sh
vadduser [EMAIL PROTECTED] 123456
vadduser [EMAIL PROTECTED] 12345
+- 50 lines.
--

All the accounts where created sucessfully. Checked the
MySQL logs, all fine. The strange thing happened when I
tryied to fetch the new created accounts using pop3. They
got me password failed.

Then I ran vadduser for [EMAIL PROTECTED] again like this:

# vpasswd [EMAIL PROTECTED] 123456

And it worked ! The account where sucessfully authenticaded.
Then, I made another script like the one I used to vadduser
to run vpasswd and change the password of each account:

--
#!/bin/sh
vpasswd [EMAIL PROTECTED] 123456
vpasswd [EMAIL PROTECTED] 123456
+- 50 lines.
--

Again, checked MySQL logs, all passwords changed fine.
And then I got the same error, even on the [EMAIL PROTECTED]
account!? Strange isn't it?

When I ran vpasswd individually, it changes and auths OK.
When I ran vpasswd from a script line by line, it changes
but auth fails.

Should this be a MySQL issue ?

The only solution I had was change the password one-by-one, by hand!

I've used this same scripts on the 4.9.10 version and it worked
fine for me.

I'm using 4.10.32, no patches.
MySQL 3.23.39

I'm using env DATABYTES because I need outgoing quota based on the
user's ip address. I can't use a global databytes rule.

P.S: using /var/qmail/control/databytes works fine as well (on a global rule).

Environment Variables vs POP-before-SMTP

2001-06-07 Thread Eduardo Augusto Alvarenga

Hi there,

I'm using POP-before-SMTP function in vpopmail.
Everything was working fine if to relay successfully authenticated users
since I started trying to set the environment variable DATABYTES on my
tcp.smtp.cdb file, but POP-before-SMTP don't set it on the new
roaming user.

Like:

original tcp.smtp.cdb
192.168.0.:allow,RELAYCLIENT="",DATABYTES="1024"

new created on the fly tcp.smtp.cdb (I guess)
ro.am.ip.:allow,RELAYCLIENT=""

Any tips to resolve this?

Wagner,

Since you\'re using vpopmail. You can try to put the POP before SMTP
authentication mechanism.
Compile vpopmail with \"--enable-roaming-users=y\" option and just run your
tcpserver with a \"-x /home/vpopmail/etc/tcp.smtp.cdb\" flag.
Read vpopmail manual for more info abou pop before smtp.
And beware your users to check mail before sending ANY message at your server.

Send private messages if you like (may be in portuguese).

Gabriel,

I don't think using NFS should be a good solution for clustering since
Qmail *needs* to have all files on the same local disk.
I don't know about vpopmail, could it be used under a NFS site
securelly?

Hi Liu,

Try putting a "-Hl 0" flag on your tcpserver init string.

--
-H: Do not look up the remote host name in DNS; remove the environment
variable $TCPREMOTEHOST. To avoid loops,
you must use this option for servers on TCP port 53.

-l localname: Do not look up the local host name in DNS; use localname
for the environment variable
$TCPLOCALHOST. A common choice for localname is 0. To avoid loops,
you must use this option for servers on TCP
  port 53.
--

Works wonderfully ;)

Build a simple ready-to-use perl script to get the usernames from your
SQL table, and exec the vadduser command using each pw_name line.
Or even get only the pw_name field names, copy it to an text file and
put a "vadduser" after every user manually.
The passwords are stored only in your SQL table, no worry for plain text
pass.
