I've run into this before, and removing the maildirzie file, and letting it 
rebuild on the next logon fixes it. I've yet to figure out whay the file gets 
corrupted in the first place, but it seems to happen after changing a users 
quota. Could be coincidental though, as I haven't been able to duplicate the 
problem purposely yet.

Have you verified that vpopmail is a member of the group vchkpw? I had this 
problem a while back, and it seems to me that this was the problem. Been 
wrong before though.
