[vdr] vdr 1.5.15 rpm packages available

2008-02-19 Thread Ludwig Nussel
Hi,

I've updated the vdr15 package in the build service[1] to version
1.5.15. It's unpatched so don't hesitate to report bugs.
The vdr-plugins package now also includes the xine plugin for xine
version 1.1.10.1.

Subject: [vdr] [ANNOUNCE] VDR developer version 1.5.15

NOTE:

This is the final step towards a stable version 1.6.0.

Please report any bugs as soon as possible, so that I can prepare
a release candidate next weekend. If nothing unexpected happens,
I plan to release version 1.6.0 on March 2.

The changes since version 1.5.14:

- Revoked the switch to the "multiproto" driver in order to make a new
stable
 version before making this big switch and forcing all users to install
a

 driver that is not yet in the kernel source. The removed code will
reappear
 in version 1.7.0.

Apparently there are macros for this, like PRId64 and such.
But i don't like having to write something like

  int64_t n = ...;
  printf("Some number %" PRId64 "\n", n);

Don't know if the gettext mechanisms would be able to handle

   tr("Some number %" PRId64 "\n")

I wonder why there ar no proper format specifiers for this.
Or are there?

[vdr] [ANNOUNCE] vdr-iptv-0.0.7

2008-02-19 Thread Antti Seppälä
Hi all.

We are pleased to announce a new release of vdr-iptv plugin. Iptv plugin
is an attempt to add various IPTV reception capabilities to VDR.

This version incorporates support for VDR version 1.5.15. Another new
feature is configurable scanning of PIDs for streams where the full
section information is not available.

This version eliminates global sid scanning configuration option and
instead provides per-channel settings for toggling sid and pid scanning.
These settings are accessible from iptv plugin channel editor and are
stored to channels.conf accordingly.

For a sample of the new channels.conf format as well as full changelog
and plugin download please see plugin homepage:

http://www.saunalahti.fi/~rahrenbe/vdr/iptv/

Note: After new stable VDR version (1.6.0) is available support for VDR
versions below 1.5.xx is likely to be dropped from future iptv plugin
releases.

It seems to be the POSIX way...

It would probably be necessary to have multiple translations for the string
after macro expansion (negating the whole reason for having the macro in
the first place).

So translations should still work. The ugliness of those macros remains.

seems to promise that it works without multiple translations:

  Assume you have code like

 printf ("The amount is %0" PRId64 "\n", number);

  The gettext tools and library have special support for these
   macros. You can therefore simply write

 printf (gettext ("The amount is %0" PRId64 "\n"), number);

  The PO file will contain the string "The amount is %0\n". The
  translators will provide a translation containing "%0" as
  well, and at runtime the gettext function's result will contain the
  appropriate constant string, "d" or "ld" or "lld".

gettext-0.14 (4 years old) already has this text, so it's probably safe
to use by now. (Apparently I have been living under a rock for the last
couple of years, I didn't even know about that PRId64 thing - thanks for
pointing it out.)

Regards...

I agree. I wonder who came up with this idea?
Why would somebody totally break the printf mechanisms and introduce
such ugly macros?

I really hope we can avoid this insanity in VDR...

I am no expert, but if they teach STL for C++ why not use that instead which
is suppose to be type cast safe, instead of the older printf mechanism. I
don't want to start a war on what the best method is. But just wanted to
understand. Or would the cost in time be too high to convert everything?
