To what, exactly are you referring? What documentation and what
situation?

What functionality? Wildcards work in both Unix and Windows classes.
Which characters are valid wilcards varies with the client OS, since
that OS is what defines what characters are valid in filenames as well
as what chars are wildcards.

Regardless of platform, the universe of what you want to back up on a
class of servers goes into the class's selection list: c:\mydir

Regardless of platform, any parts of the universe defined by the
selection list, which you don't want to back up, go in the exclude list:
c:\mydir\tmp

Regardless of platform, any parts of the exclude list which you want to
re-include ("Exceptions to exclude list" in 6.0) go in the include list:
c:\mydir\tmp\audit*

> Anyone have any better ideas / has this been resolved in NBU 6.0 ?

Please restate your question. You must have a point which I'm not
seeing.

[Veritas-bu] Bprestore command line - MS Exchange Query

I'm writing a script to restore a Public Folder calendar in Exchange.
What I am not sure about is how to specify the file structure after the
command. For instance, on an NDMP restore for a Mirapoint server, I use
/usr/store/spool/shared/name. What would the same look like on
Exchange?

What

What is the best and easiest way to do that? I just can't seem to remember the

To
tightly target the change, the best way, IMO, is to use
bpimagelist -idonly and all of it's options to get the image ids for
the client, time frame, policy, etc. you want to change, then use
bpexpdate -recalculate -backupid to make the
change.

RE: [Veritas-bu] upgrade to nbu 6.0

2006-04-10 Thread Johnny Oestergaard
I think you have to do the following (without going into detail)

Upgrade from 3.4 to 4.5 (latest MP)
Upgrade from 4.5 to 5.1 (latest MP)
Upgrade from 5.1 to 6.0 MP2

I don't think you can upgrade to 6.0 from anything else then 5.0 and 5.1
directly.

If I had the task you face I would hire a consultant to help me. It is a
major project. And remember that Veritas only support clients 1 major
release back (but 2 normally works)
I have a few clients still running 4.5 with 6.0, but that is because the
client operatingsystem is so old that there is no support in eg version 5.0
or newer.

files on the server will not be preserved during this process. In the
end, i would like to have the ability to restore from previous backups
and if possible, keep the same policies that i had before.

[Veritas-bu] Large Folder Backup Wildcards - Windows

2006-04-10 Thread Martin, Jonathan \(Contractor\)

I've read the official Veritas documentation on using wildcards to
backup files on Windows and I want to know if anyone has come up with
something better. Basically Veritas says for 4.5-5.1 list everything
you want to backup, then exclude all of it, and then include using
wildcards. That's all fine and dandy for one server, but it could be a
major nightmare for several large file servers. Apparently UNIX backups
support this functionality on the selection list, unfortunately none of
my file servers are Linux/Unix. :(

Anyone have any better ideas / has this been resolved in NBU 6.0 ?

Thanks as always,

-Jonathan

[Veritas-bu] Bpplsched output question

2006-04-10 Thread Brooks, Jason
I am in the process of generating a listing for audit of all my NBU
policies. Runing bpplschd policyname -L gave me the following output
(truncated to the end)

 Daily Windows:
  Day Open Close W-Open W-Close
  Sunday 000:00:00 000:00:00
  Monday 023:30:00 031:00:00 047:30:00 055:00:00
  Tuesday 023:30:00 031:00:00 071:30:00 079:00:00
  Wednesday 023:30:00 031:00:00 095:30:00 103:00:00
  Thursday023:30:00 031:00:00 119:30:00 127:00:00
  Friday 000:00:00 000:00:00
  Saturday000:00:00 000:00:00

Why do I have close times greater than 24? The jobs here do start at
11:30PM, but what's 31? And what's the W columns?

Thanks,
Jason

Re: [Veritas-bu] NetBackup Encryption

2006-04-10 Thread Austin Murphy
We're using the NetBackup Software encryption. Management loves the concept.

Two important things I learned:

1. It's slow, but managable. Switching from the AES-256 Cipher to the
Blowfish Cipher sped things up about 25%.

2. Encrypted Data doesn't compress. You can compress the data before
you encrypt, but that just doubles the hurt.

[Veritas-bu] ERROR: Unable to execute bpsyncinfo -add_paths ... [./Vrts_pack.install]

2006-04-10 Thread Wilkinson, Alex
Hi all,

I have a fresh installation of Solaris 10 1/06 s10s_u1wos_19a SPARC.
I have installed NebackUp 6.0 and am now attempting to install MP2.

I get the following error from ./Vrts_pack.install

   Running /usr/openv/netbackup/bin/admincmd/bpsyncinfo add_paths command ...
   cannot connect on socket

ERROR: Unable to execute bpsyncinfo -add_paths.

Installation of pack NB_60_2_M FAILED Mon Apr 10 22:34:59 CST 2006 Rev.
   1.33.4.13.

   Exiting Vrts_pack.install

I have installed the pre-requisite NB_CLT_60_2 successfully.

Has anyone seen this ? Is MP2 proven to work with S10/Update1 ?

Cheers

[Veritas-bu] VxSS Woes

2006-04-10 Thread Naidu V. T.

Hi All,

Master Server : Veritas Netbackup Enterprise Version 5.1 on Windows 2003 SP1.
With 5 Media Servers Veritas Netbackup Enterprise
5.1 on Windows 2000. HP San Tape library on SSO. VxSS version 4.1.2.5

 Objective of installing VxSS :
Opertors are given minumum rights and to administrate who does what as many
operators works in different shifts.

Veritas Administration console is
either accessed directly from Master or through Remote administration console.
We have Installed a Root Broker, Authentication Broker and Authorization broker
on a Windows Master Server and installed Authentication broker and the
authorization client services on a netbackup remote administration client.

From Master server to access administration
console we login using adminveritas (Administrator) account. From Remote
Administration console respective users and it was working fine for some time.
When we added the next Remote administration console, every thing gone now
nobody is able to access the Console except the adminveritas (Administrator) account
directly from Master server. Other users from Remote admin console were not
able to access the console.

Please let me know if there is any
patch or work around for this problem.

Regards

V.T.Naidu
