First,
remove any storage groups defined on the media server.
Then
go to "Host Properties - Master Server Properties - Servers" and remove
any references to the media server in the "Media Servers"
pane.

  Hi,

  I had a test
environment with a Master (well actually master/media) and a Media server
setup. I now want to remove the media server from the environment so I
uninstalled Netbackup from the server and now the server shows up on the
Master with a socket 25 error, and there doesn't seem to be an easy way to
  remove it all together.
  I imagine there is
a way, but I just can't find it. Does anyone know how to remove it from the
Master? I've restarted both servers and it's still
there.

Sounds good. I´ll think I
go with nr 2.

I also need to get all my

/usr/openv/netbackup/db, I have the most important stuff thereThen I manually
have to move hosts file, scripts and other stuff that is outside of
/usr/openv/netbackup/db to the new SUSE server.

I am I missing something

I would
offer the following scenario:

Leave
the HP in place for 30 days after your new SUSE is in place and running.
After the 30 days, most of the media/images may be expired and you won't have
to worry about migrating the images.

After
the 30 days is up, you would have 2 options:

1.
attach the old library to the SUSE master, inventory the tapes, import the
tapes, duplicate the images to the new media type.

2.
attach the old library to the SUSE master, inventory the tapes, copy the
/usr/openv/netbackup/db/images directory from the HP server to the SUSE and use
the old library for restores only.

Option 2
is a lot like the DR recovery process that is described in a tech note on
Veritas.

You can
do it across Unix Masters, but not Unix to Windows. (you can do it across
Windows masters, but not Win to Unix).

What is the easiest way
to move a master (and media) server from HP-UX to SUSE 9? Copy over the db

The SUSE server will have

Make sure you use the same hostname for the new server.

Re: [Veritas-bu] Moving from HP-UX till SUSE SLE 9.

2006-05-29 Thread Bobby Williams
Actually, you DON'T want to name your SUSE server the same name. That way
you can let most of your media expire while both systems are on the net.
Leave the old library attached to the HP system during this time. If
someone needs a restore from data prior to the cutover date (which should be
well announced), they would know to look at images on the HP server. For
restores after the cutover date, they look to the SUSE.

After the 30 days:

Only copy /usr/openv/netbackup/db/images over to the SUSE box (also any
special scripts in the bin directory). In the bp.conf, use:

FORCE_RESTORE_MEDIA_SERVER = old server NEW Server

All restores now come from SUSE. The SUSE knows what tapes are in the
library (but can't write to them since they are only inventoried, not
imported).

This procedure is outlined in a document on Veritas' web site. It is laying
on my desk, but I am at home. I use this procedure to migrate (but have
stuck with Solaris to Solaris migrations). It is also part of our DR
procedure which has passed SOX audits and DR tests.

I guess it depends how complex is your environment.
Multiple locations, different platforms and agents, hundreds of clients - my
advice will be to wait until MP3 or contact Veritas and obtain fixed binaries
for master andmedia servers.
