Hi Sergey,

Some thoughts:

-UFS is definately supported. We use it.

-Make sure that you haven't got any old/stale SNAPs (check snaplist). If
so, delete them using snapoff.

-You may want to check out the bpbkar log file for corresponding
errors...also make sure you get the details with VERBOSE=5 in bp.conf

-Make sure that the SOURCE is not a symbolic link. I have seen this file
when trying to back up /databases, which was really a symbolic link to
/u0/data/database1.45, for example. You may see a reference to this if
it the issue in your corresponding 'bpfis' log.

-Make sure you have enough shared memory and semaphores set. We had this
problem (error 11 5) initially.

HTH

Cheers!

 Does nbu_snap support ufs filesystem?

2006-10-17 Thread Marcos DeLima

Wessan,

I friend of mine just gave the clue.
What you need to do is to go the CATALOG (NBU 5.1) and on the top you will find a combo, there select IMPORT (ACTION/you might have verify and duplicate as well). Give details in order to find you tapes/bkups images. As soon as you find the images, click 1st over initiate import by right clicking, after all the processes done, go over these images again and right click over IMPORT. Whenthese processes aredone, you must find the restores again in the catalog.

My Direct email is [EMAIL PROTECTED], fell free to email directly.

Import the tapes. If you can do a phase 1 and phase 2 import, then the backups
are not expired any more. The data will come back at the retention level that
it was written and expired at the retention from the days date that the import
completed.

Title: Networking / client issue?

I have been having an issue with one of my clients backing up getting a 54 Error. I tried some basic network troubleshooting, like checking the duplex, which was fine and also made sure that port 13782 is listening on the client. All of that seemed fine, and if I am on the client, I noticed that I can telnet client 13782 which works fine.

Going to the master server and telnet client 13782 gives the following

Hello All,

I am having a difficult time trying to combine multiplexing with
multistreaming to maximize my performance.

Here's the scenario:

I have Netbackup 5.1 MP5 installed on a Solaris 10 Sunfire 12 K server,
which have Storedge L180 tape library attached to it using FC.

6 LTO-2 tape drives reside in L180. I have approximately 20 clients.
The issue is with a Windows 2003 server that has 2 disk drives C and E.

I have no problem with C:\, the problem is with E:\.

E:\ has about 20 shares and is about 500 gig in size. It seems as if
I have trial and error every possibility.

Any feedback will be greatly appreciated.

Hi Brenda, do you have OPEN FILE License on your server?
Did u check about SECURITY on the DRIVE E? Be sure to have the user SYSTEM with full access in there.

Hi Dan,

Did u check for the host performance? Heavy processes may cause "STOP RESPONDING" or 54 Error.
Open the event viewer and check if you see some Volume Shadow Copy or MS Volume Shadow Copy. Ensure these services to be in MANUAL and STOPPED.

# telnet client-host 13782 Trying 10.10.x.x... Connected to client-host. Escape character is '^]'. gethostbyaddr: Error 0 Connection to client-host closed by foreign host.
Suggestions on what else to try?

 Hello All,

Before getting too far into a solution you need to define the problem.
What kind of performance are you getting now?

A single LTO-2 drive easily could use up all the bandwidth available
from a single Gigabit Ethernet link. Six LTO-2 drives getting fed
from a single GigE link will starve and shoeshine.

I'm not sure what kind of errors you are talking about, but you may
have some more luck by tuning the Maximum Data Streams for that
particular client.

In the Java console go to:
Host Properties -- Master Servers -- right click on the master --
Properties -- Client Attributes

Add the name of your problematic windows 2003 system to the list and
check the box for Maximum data streams, and set the number of streams
to 1.

Apply the changes and restart your master processes. You also have
the option to adjust how the windows open file backups are performed
through this window. I think the same functionality is available with
the bpclient command on the master server.

You may also want to think about splitting up E: into a few different
backup jobs. Combined with tuning the Max data streams, you might be
able to get a faster or more reliable backup jobs.

[Veritas-bu] renaming a media server

2006-10-17 Thread Haskins, Steve

My application support person, if all of their wisdom, wants
to have their app server rebuilt but remove media server from it. Originally it
was made a media server coexisting with the app because of the TBs of data it
was to house. They want to keep the same host name for their app so I would
have to change the host name for the new media server. Is there
any way of keeping all previous backups in renaming a media server WITHOUT
importing the media afterward?

Thanks in advance.

In theory, you can rename a media server. However, when we tried it
last week, we went through several hours of pain and ended up renaming
it back to the original name. This was attempted with a Veritas
engineer onsite along with a senior Veritas support rep.

I would recommend that you keep the old name and they change.

There were rumors earlier this month that MP4 will be released on
October 15...

It has not yet been released. We installed a pre-release of MP4 last
Thursday but I personally don't expect it to go GA until the end of the
month or thereabouts (depending on what is found between now and then
and I heard that there is at least one build more recent than what we
installed). Don't forget that one significant bug can set them back a
week from the time a developer codes a fix to the build and internal
test processes and possible customer testing.

From what I've seen so far, MP4 is a *lot* better than any other
combination of maintenance paks and patches we've applied to 6.0. We'll
be going over our outstanding bug list in more detail today but I'm
confident that our most critical issues have all been resolved. In our
environment (and we're all different), this release looks solid so far.
Realize, however, that I've only run a few days and didn't pay really
close attention to it over the weekend - yes, I briefly looked at our
reports and it looks good, but that's different from an in-depth
analysis of our issues and status reports.

Ed, how does one get access to a 'pre-release' ?
