Re: [Veritas-bu] Ad-hoc NDMP backups?
I do this all the time. Create a policy as you would normally, but instead of properly defining a schedule, give it no hours during any day to run, and make it calendar based with a run day selected from a day two or three weeks ago. (like June 1, 2008) Any time you need to run it, just do a manual backup. Since it has no backup window, and the calendar day is permanently in the past, it will never start automatically. -Jon > I have the occasional need for "one-time" backups of some NDMP data. Re: [Veritas-bu] One report with all client backup reportwiththeirsuccess o
Limited by the depth of your logs, that's the bperror output. You can also write your own logs using a backup_exit_notify script. Mine just drops policy, schedule, client & return code to a simple flat date-based file. Useful for answering a lot of questions that come up. -M -Original Message- From: Michitsch, John [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Wednesday, June 11, 2008 6:48 AM To: Donaldson, Mark - Broomfield, CO; VERITAS-BU@mailman.eng.auburn.edu Subject: RE: [Veritas-bu] One report with all client backup reportwiththeirsuccess o Does anyone know how to produce a report showing all non successful backups only? -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: 10 June, 2008 12:59 PM To: VERITAS-BU@mailman.eng.auburn.edu Subject: Re: [Veritas-bu] One report with all client backup report withtheirsuccess o The bperror variants will only report back as deep as your log depth. Just upgraded my first Windows 2003 6.5.1 to 6.5.2 hoping to get some VCB backups working. The upgrade went fine. I like the new priority override. [Veritas-bu] Restores changing binary files
Okay, I have a weird problem here...Netbackup 6.5 on Solaris 10. We had to restore a bunch of gzipped files to a host a while back, and they all came back with CRC errors and wouldn't gunzip. The fix was to restore the files to a different host, then scp them over. Then they would gunzip just fine. The client had 6.0mp4 software on it at the time this backup was taken. The restored files have different md5sum/cksum output than the originals but are the exact same size. I upgraded the client to 6.5 and did some test backups and restores. Restored binary files still have different checksums. Text files seem to work fine. The symantec tech support person seemed to think it was the filesystem, but I've done restores to two different kinds of filesystems. I restored to both vxfs (what it's on currently) and ufs, and got different checksums and corrupt files each time. Any ideas? ___ Veritas-bu maillist - Veritas-bu@mailman.eng.auburn.edu http://mailman.eng.auburn.edu/mailman/listinfo/veritas-bu
[Veritas-bu] Catalog restore tampered with by robot inventory
Guys, Can a catalog recovery fail or cause issues if someone attempts to inventory the robot while the catalog is restoring? I believe in NBU 5.1 and below the cold catalog backup could not be disturbed or it could fail. How is this behavior of a catalog recovery for 6.0 and 6.5 if someone disturbs the library? I was running a catalog recovery and one of the datacenter guys decides to try and inventory tapes while it is happening. It seems the first 2 hours the job was moving pretty quickly but since that incident has slown down. This is for a catalog recovery from tape. Using a Master / Library and the media server (drive) that it's assigned to. Just curious if this is not an issue in 6.0 and up. -Jackson ___ Veritas-bu maillist - Veritas-bu@mailman.eng.auburn.edu http://mailman.eng.auburn.edu/mailman/listinfo/veritas-bu

Darren, Patrick, Thanks a lot for your responses. Client was moved from the class Unix-servers to LateStart yesterday (June 10th). RE question 1: Looks like NetBackup retained the information about client's backups. RE question 2: Looks like after the move NetBackup is NOT treating client as new - it didn't run a full backup last night.
