Re: [Veritas-bu] Strange schedule problem

2008-07-18 Thread Dave Markham
No joy im afraid :(

I tried as below and also tried stopping all daemons, moving
/usr/openv/netbackup/db/jobs/pempersist to a .old file and restarting
services on the master. Still no joy.

I copied the policy to a new one, deleted the old one and then copied
the copy back to the policy of the same original name and no joy.
I have created a new schedule within the policy and that has not ran.

Also now when running nbpemreq -predict -date 07/19/2008 00:00:00 it
doesn't show the policy in the list but shows all the others.

Any more suggestions? I cant seem to find a log for nbpem either and
the man page for vxlogcfg doesn't lead me in any direction.

Cheers

I started getting these error 13 backup failures on some of my Netware

you can ping away and great response. Does not look like network. Here is

[Veritas-bu] 1st Time NOM user - Athentication Services not running.

2008-07-18 Thread spaldam

Apparently I had to install both authentication pieces, configure the
authentication, and then re-configure NOM once I had the authentication
services working. It's all up and running now

What a confusing installation process. I had to read 5 different documents,
and essentially configure 4 different pieces of software to get it all working.
someone needs to do a step by step, from the beginning 1st time install
document for NOM. May I'll have to do it myself?

If I have a big enough Master Server, and I'm not too concerned about security,
are there any other reasons why NOM (and all its pre-requisites) couldn't be
installed on the Master Server?

I've got 1 large environment, and 4 small international sites I want to monitor
with it.

Currently I'm testing it out on a development machine that's likely going to
get re-loaded soon. I need a more permanent place for it, but don't have any
extra servers lying around.

[Veritas-bu] manually copying a disk image to a tape

2008-07-18 Thread Adam Solomon
Hi all,

I'm running NBU6 mp6 on Solaris. We stage our backups to disk and then
vault them daily to tape for off site storage. I need to make an additional
tape copy of one backup image. I assume that this is done with
bpduplicate. Could anyone offer additional guidance?

Thanks,

Adam

Well - that's pretty much it. Just bpduplicate and populate the options
correctly.

Make sure your max backup copies for all of Netbackup allows at least
three copies: bpconfig -L

What's your concern?

The Catalog section in the Admin GUI makes it extreamly easy to do for little
one-off's like this.

[Veritas-bu] 1st Time NOM user - Athentication Services not running.

2008-07-18 Thread spaldam

Ok, now I can't seem to get any scheduled reports to work. If I set it up to
do a daily report, it will send the report immediately, but when I go to
managed my scheduled reports, it's blank. No scheduled reports. I've setup
half a dozen of them, but they just seem to disappear as soon as I create them.

I actually got an e-mail that I think was from one of these reports
non-existent schedules I created, but all it said was “Error in running the
report. Please contact the administrator for further details.” I am the
administrator, so I’m not who to do.

[Veritas-bu] Media and image expiration

2008-07-18 Thread Jeff Cleverley

Greetings,

It looks like a problem with the tir_info files came up when the
database filled up. To free up space I ran the report to show me images
on media and then expired a bunch of the older incremental images. This
freed up some space, but not much. It looks like I'm going to have to
wipe out the tir_info files and run some new full backups.

The media that were associated with these images have not expired and
gone into the scratch pool. The reports show they have no images on
them but they still show they don't expire until the regular expiration
date. I know that I can bpexpdate them, but the problem is I didn't pay
attention to the labels on the big batch that was run a few days ago.
Is there a way to tell the database to expire tapes if they don't have
any images on them if I don't know the barcode label.

This is NB5.1 mp4 running on hpux 11.11.

Thanks,

Jeff

[Veritas-bu] MPT driver and SG

2008-07-18 Thread Jon Bousselot
http://www.auscert.org.au/render.html?it=9490

Has anyone encountered this bug and the documented workaround did not
fix the problem?

I've encountered a variety of problems that I can relate to this.

1. Sun Sparc system with fiber attached tape/robot, had the bad patches
but not the workaround, and sg sees the tapes and robot just fine. The
sg driver worked fine at version 6.5 and 6.5.2.

2. Same Sun Sparc system with scsi card added, workaround patches
applied, and sg cannot see the robot on the scsi bus, only the drives.
The robot and drives on the fiber card are still there and working just
fine.

3. Sun x86 system with fiber attached tape, did not have the workaround,
sg sees only the tape. After the workaround, sg sees the tape and robot
and I could setup the devices. After 6.5.2 patch, sg does not see the
robot any more.

I've done the sg.build, and run sgscan a dozen times. Reconfigure
boots, devfsadm, cfgadm, luxadm probe... it seems Solaris can see all
the devices down either type of controller, but SG refuses to bind to
the robot.
On the Sparc system, I'm moving the library off of a working 6.5.2
Solaris 9 media server that is being decommissioned, so I know the
library and drives are good.
The x86 system is a new install.
