Re: [Veritas-bu] Dual ported fiber channel LTO4 drives and NetBackup 6.5
On Tue, 28 Oct 2008, JAJA (Jamie Jamison) wrote: I have a SpectraLogic T950 tape library with six LTO4 tape drives. SpectraLogic replaced all of the drives earlier this year because of problems with the IBM hardware and the new drives that I received have dual fiber channel ports. Right now I have two drives that are dedicated to NDMP backups and which are directly connected to a NetApp filer and four drives that are connected to my master server via fiber channel and a switch. I have a separate FC card for the library robotic control that is directly connected to the library from the master server. We're bringing in a new NetApp filer and implementing a VTL on our DataDomain restorers. Rather than connecting the current NDMP drives to the new filer, with one drive per head, I'd like to implement SSO so that I have a pool of six drives that can be used for any kind of backup or for duplication. But looking at those dual FC ports on the drives makes me wonder if there is anything I can do with them. I'm wondering if I can be lazy and instead of implementing SSO just connect all six drives to the FC fabric and on two of the drives use the second fiber channel port for a direct connection to the NetApp filer. Is there anything useful that I can do with these ports? I would (and do) go with SSO. Spectra Logic released an upgrade just yesterday that for the first time allows use of those dual ports (and NB 6.5.2) with the T950. But the only use for the dual port is redundancy (no performance increase). I hate to think what would happen if you did what you've proposed, as it seems to me that both the master and filer might try to access the drive at the same time. And btw, being lazy and implementing SSO are not mutually exclusive. :-) -hal Thanks, Jamie Jamison ___ Veritas-bu maillist - Veritas-bu@mailman.eng.auburn.edu http://mailman.eng.auburn.edu/mailman/listinfo/veritas-bu ___ Veritas-bu maillist - Veritas-bu@mailman.eng.auburn.edu http://mailman.eng.auburn.edu/mailman/listinfo/veritas-bu

[Veritas-bu] Duplicating schedules via CLI
I would like to duplicate a schedule from one template policy to a new policy. I have a policy called template' which is deactivated and contains the 10 different schedules we use in our environment. I have written a script to create a new policy when we'd like to add a server to backups (we use the one policy per client method). Via the GUI, I can right click on that template schedule, and select Copy To New..., and enter in a schedule name and policy to add it to. How can I duplicate a schedule via the CLI? Mark, Thanks much. I believe if I parse the output of bpplsched on the template schedule, I'll be able to duplicate it using bpplsched -add and bpplschedwin. Doesn't look too bad - just not as simple as duplicating it using a preexisting command. Jason On Wed, Oct 29, 2008 at 4:16 PM, Donaldson, Mark - Broomfield, CO [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Nope. [Veritas-bu] 6.0 MP5 Upgrade to 6.5.2
I just wanted to ask for everyone's thoughts and prayers through my times of trial as I go through this upgrade on a very old, patched, duct taped installation that began back in the 3.x world. I'm in a Windows world and I am going to replace my Master (hardware only) and I wanted to move forward with the 6.5.2 upgrade while I had the system down. I'm asking for suggestions on how best to approach this. 1.Recover NetBackup on the new hardware and then upgrade? Or... 2.Install NetBackup 6.5.2 on the new server and recover the catalog into the new installation? Will that even work? Or... 3.Start drinking heavily, spin a bottle and go with whatever the bottle picks? It worked in college. I'm planning this for next Wednesday so if anyone is in the Houston area and you're bored . . . Bob?
