You're not reading the manual. That isn't how exclude/include lists
work.

Exclusion files are client-side only. If you put one on the master
server, it doesn't function for the clients.

Certainly it's something we, the user community, have been requesting
for a very long time.

I'm told this is a Fedora Core 5 64-bit install. The client currently

the error I get when I run update_clients:

> /tmp/bp_inst.2143/tar: error while loading shared libraries:

The libacl.so.1 file does exist in the /lib64 directory but it is a link
to libacl.so.1.1.0.

Has anyone had any success in dealing with this?

Thanks,

2009-05-26 Thread Girish Jorapurkar

Yes, the exclude file is specific to the machine where it is present. But you
can "push" exclude file from master to various clients using bpsetconfig -e
command in 6.5.3. I am not sure if the command option is there in
6.5.2.

[Veritas-bu] create log file on Backup exec client???

2009-05-26 Thread men duffy

our Backup Administrator recently change backup software from Veritas Net
backup to Backup EXEC. On netbackup, we can setup "bp.conf" file on agent and
get backup log file on client (Redhat LINUX) under
/usr/openv/netbackup/log/bpbkar. In this way we know which files been backup
and check backup successful or not.

After change to Backup Exec, we don't know how to setup it. Does anyone know
how to setup backup log on LINUX client?

Thanks.

Fedora client install problem Netbackup 6.5.3 on Solaris. I’m well aware that
Fedora is not a supported client platform, but I’m trying to install the 6.5.3
binaries anyway because this is what I was handed.

Client platform:
Linux client.mbari.org 2.6.17-1.2187_FC5 #1 SMP Mon Sep 11 01:16:59 EDT 2006
x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

I’m told this is a Fedora Core 5 64-bit install. The client currently has the
6.0 MP5 binaries installed and backups are successful. Here is the error I get
when I run update_clients:

> /tmp/bp_inst.2143/tar: error while loading shared libraries:

The libacl.so.1 file does exist in the /lib64 directory but it is a link to
libacl.so.1.1.0.

Has anyone had any success in dealing with this?

[Veritas-bu] Exclude List in Ver 6.5.2 (on Linux)

2009-05-26 Thread Harpreet SINGH

Dear All,

I am heaving a setup of 6 clients and one Master/Media server running on
Linux.

I am trying to setup a single exclusion list in Master/Media server. So no
need to do anything on the client side.

I have created the file /usr/openv/netbackup/exclude_list. In this file
/ncla/harp/harp1 I want to do backup of /ncla/harp all the files and
exclude harp1 folder.

Please advise if I am doing wrong. Here it is doing backup of /ncla/harp
and /ncla/harp/harp1

I have to ask - given that it's unsupported anyway, why upgrade if it's
already working ? Looking for a new feature ?

Netbackup 6.5.3 on Solaris. I'm well aware that Fedora is not a
supported client platform, but I'm trying to install the 6.5.3 binaries
anyway because this is what I was handed.

Client platform:
Linux client.mbari.org 2.6.17-1.2187_FC5 #1 SMP Mon Sep 11 01:16:59 EDT
2006 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

I'm told this is a Fedora Core 5 64-bit install. The client currently
has the 6.0 MP5 binaries installed and backups are successful. Here is
the error I get when I run update_clients:

> /tmp/bp_inst.2143/tar: error while loading shared libraries:
> libacl.so.1:
> cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

The libacl.so.1 file does exist in the /lib64 directory but it is a link
to libacl.so.1.1.0.

Has anyone had any success in dealing with this?

Thanks,
Neil

[Veritas-bu] issue with 6.5.3 and win 2008 servers

2009-05-26 Thread Wacko_Jacko

Just add the Master Server to the Hosts file on the NOM server.

You may need to have the Authentication Agent installed on the Master server
also. Check that this is installed.

Re: [Veritas-bu] issue with 6.5.3 and win 2008 servers

2009-05-26 Thread judy_hinchcliffe
I have been fighting this issue for months.

Some of my 2008's work fine on 6.5.3.1 and some only work on 6.5.2a.

We have not been able to find out why.

I have a call open now and we are doing some detail investigation to
find out what is different between the servers that work and the ones
that don't.

[Veritas-bu] issue with 6.5.3 and win 2008 servers

2009-05-26 Thread Wacko_Jacko

I had the same issues. When you created the policy, did you use the policy
creation wizard. If so I believe that is why the error 49 occurred.

Try upgrading to 6.5.3 via liveupdate and creating a new policy without the
wizard this time and setup the policy manually.

This worked for me!!

Thanks

[Veritas-bu] sybase agent question

2009-05-26 Thread Christopher Romano
Hi...

I am trying to use the Netbackup Sybase Agent to backup a Sybase
dataserver, and have a few questions:

1) In the sample script they have:

#***

# Replace /usr/sybase12/scripts below with your actual path of the
Sybase files

#***

SYB_FILES_DIR=/usr/sybase12/scripts

/usr/openv/netbackup/bin/bpbackup -c $SYB_FILES_POLICY $SYB_FILES_DIR

What is $SYB_FILES_DIR supposed to be set to...do I need to specify all
directories I want to backup? Isn't passing a database name enough?

The example has this set to /usr/sybase12/scripts. Perhaps this is the
path to this script itself?

2) Also in the sample script, they have $DATABASE_NAME= ...do I
really need to have 1 script per database?! The BA tells me there are
100+ databases on this one dataserver.

Thanks,

Chris Romano

Same error in logs. We are pretty confident that it's a permissions

Also don't understand the Backup Exec errors - no BE on Sharepoint

Any ideas?

auth.conf syntax is :

domain\login

For example :

MYDOMAIN\user1 ADMIN=ALL JBP=ALL
MYDOMAIN\user2 ADMIN=AM+BPM+DM JBP=
Be aware that as of 6.5.2 I think it was, the domain has become case sensitive
in the login screen. So if you have it capitalized in the auth.conf file, the
users need to enter "MYDOMAIN\user1" as their user name.

as removing all rights to my user but I can still access the Netbackup Java

I removed that entry and then just kept my user in the file with "domain\user

did not stop me from accessing every other part of the Java Console.

Here is my daily backup summary report script

I test for date, because on Monday morning I want to go back to 5 pm
last Friday and see the backups for all weekend.
The rest of the week I just go from 5 pm the night before.
This is run at 9 am each morning via cron.
Adjust your time to include the hours you want reported.

This breaks them down according to Status Code.
So all that finished ok are in the Zero section, each client name only
showing once even if they have multi jobs.

I always do a scroll to the bottom to see the ones with errors.

I attempted a few variations on the information you sent below and just as my
previous testing it doesn't seem to matter what is in the auth.conf file, it
allows me full access. So there may be something larger causing the problem but
unfortunately, not sure what it is.

auth.conf syntax is :

domain\login

For example :

MYDOMAIN\user1 ADMIN=ALL JBP=ALL
MYDOMAIN\user2 ADMIN=AM+BPM+DM JBP=
Be aware that as of 6.5.2 I think it was, the domain has become case sensitive
in the login screen. So if you have it capitalized in the auth.conf file, the
users need to enter "MYDOMAIN\user1" as their user name.

Hey guys

Has anyone been able to get the Java auth.conf file configured to work in an AD
environment? I have made several modifications to the file, even going as far
as removing all rights to my user but I can still access the Netbackup Java
console without issue. I do have Administrator rights on the server but I was
under the impression that the auth.conf would be able to bypass these
permissions since it is specific to Netbackup? Any assistance would be
appreciated, thanks.

We use a lot of RedHat and RedHat-clone distributions, and dissimilar
hardware is no issue.

For DR we use a live CD with a NetBackup client on it and a script that
handles all the grunt work. The worst we might have to do is build a new
initrd file with drivers for the boot disk.
