[Veritas-bu] Keep getting 58 errors
I was backing up a group of 5 servers in our DMZ. One was giving me problems, but a uninstall and reinstall of the client and an entry in the hosts file fixed that. Now they decided to change the name of one the the servers. The IP wasn't changed. I had our network engineer change the name in the firewall (just accounting), changed the entries in the hosts files on the master and media servers, and edited the policy. I am getting 58 errors for this client. I didi what I did before. I reinstalled the client and still get a 58 error. The master and media server is running window 2003 standard and netbackup version is 6.5.3.1. The client is running Windows 2008 Server and Client version is 6.5 clinet for 2008. Firewall shouldn't be a problem as I can communicate the the other servers in the group. I've checked and rechecked host files. Any help would be appreciated. smwoodcrafts +-- |This was sent by dseym...@ap.org via Backup Central. |Forward SPAM to ab...@backupcentral.com. +-- ___ Veritas-bu maillist - Veritas-bu@mailman.eng.auburn.edu http://mailman.eng.auburn.edu/mailman/listinfo/veritas-bu
[Veritas-bu] 6.5.4 Remote Java Admin probs
Guys i recently upgraded from Nbu 5.0MP7 to NBU6.5 on Solaris 10 Master. All went well. We access the infrastructure through a windows terminal server which i installed the Java Admin console on. Again everything fine. I updated to 6.5.4 on the master and all was good. I updated to 6.5.4 on the windows java and now the gui is just behaving strangely. Once logged in I can't seem to get any panes to get data and it just sits there with the clock spinning for some time. I'm a bit confused as to where to look for problems. I'm not doing any authentication fanciness or anything i'm just logging in as root using the console. It was all perfect at 6.5 base though. Anyone seen this at all? Sorry i may not have explained correctly. All services are started fine. If i run the gui from the master server and redirect it back to an X display e.g /usr/openv/netbackup/bin/jnbSA Then all works great. What i'm having probs with is the Windows remote Java console i have installed on my temrinal server. This then connects via hosts file to the master server for remote admin. Its this which is causing probs at 6.5.4 Cheers Justin Piszcz wrote: On Mon, 3 Aug 2009, Dave Markham wrote: Guys i recently upgraded from Nbu 5.0MP7 to NBU6.5 on Solaris 10 Master. All went well. Re: [Veritas-bu] 6.5.4 Remote Java Admin probs
All was working fine before the upgrade? Can you identify the windows host (forward reverse dns) from the master and the master from the windows host? This sounds like a strange issue, what do the logs say for (windows-client) when you open the console on that end? In addition, on the admin console host you can make the log directories there and change the verbosity to 5. Justin. On Mon, 3 Aug 2009, Dave Markham wrote: Sorry i may not have explained correctly. [Veritas-bu] Keep getting 58 errors
Thanks, but it doesn't mention anything about my problem. When I check the client, I see its listening to the ports. I don't see it as a DNS issue, because we are using Hosts file entries for resolution. We are going through a firewall, but I can't see that being an issue as the other servers in the same group can communicate with the master and media servers. In fact, it was communicating until they changed the server name and, as I mentioned before, I changed all the entries to reflect the new name. Re: [Veritas-bu] Keep getting 58 errors
Do you have a bpcd log from the client? If not, create a bpcd log on the client to tell if the NBU server is even getting to the client. If a log is not generated when you try something like connecting to the client's host properties or a telnet to the client on the bpcd port 13782 then you are not getting to the client. Since this started as a name change to the client, can that name be resolved by both the master server and the media server used in the backup? Don't assume it can run the commands to verify it can be resolved correctly- bpclntcmd -hn (client hostname) What do you get when you run this from the client? bpclntcmd -pn That would prove the vnetd port 13724 is opened between the client and NBU server inbound when the client tried to connect to the bprd port on the master server. Or they using NAT on the FW? If so only static one to one NAT is supported. The main thing is to verify whether or not the client is generating a bpcd log entry when you try to connect to the client. If it fails to do so then you are not getting the client's bpcd port 13782 via vnetd 13724. Check to see if they turned on the Microsoft FW feature on the client. Disable it for a quick test to verify it is in play. -Original Message- From: veritas-bu-boun...@mailman.eng.auburn.edu [mailto:veritas-bu-boun...@mailman.eng.auburn.edu] On Behalf Of smwoodcrafts Sent: Monday, August 03, 2009 9:54 AM To: VERITAS-BU@mailman.eng.auburn.edu Subject: [Veritas-bu] Keep getting 58 errors Thanks, but it doesn't mention anything about my problem. Make sure you have the following: -Network ports 1556 (PBX) 13724 (vnetd) connectivity between the terminal server and NBU servers (bi-directional). -FQDN of terminal server in the bp.conf file on each NBU server With these 2 things I was able to get the Java console working in my environment on a remote terminal server. -Original Message- From: veritas-bu-boun...@mailman.eng.auburn.edu [mailto:veritas-bu-boun...@mailman.eng.auburn.edu] On Behalf Of Dave Markham Sent: Monday, August 03, 2009 06:48 To: veritas-bu@mailman.eng.auburn.edu Subject: [Veritas-bu] 6.5.4 Remote Java Admin probs Guys i recently upgraded from Nbu 5.0MP7 to NBU6.5 on Solaris 10 Master. Re: [Veritas-bu] Domino ( lotus notes ) on Windows
Hello Steve, We have multiple Lotus Notes servers, all running on Windows 2003, we run the backups for the secondary mail servers in their clusters, not the primary. I am getting good speed for the backups over the network for those servers, but now we are migrating all 6 Notes servers to 2 servers, one primary and the other one the backup server in terms of Domino. I am looking to start the network based the backup again, but if it won't perform quite fast enough, then I am looking at the SAN client option right now as well, we use the SAN on the backend for the new mail servers, and I have NetBackup 6.5, if it matters. Also, our messaging team is willing test the transactional logging backups as well soon. So, we will see how it will work on ~4T mail data. [Veritas-bu] SSO and VTL
I'm sitting in a NetApp VTL class right now, and we're discussing how to setup the VTL in NetBackup. The instructor just brought up an interesting point. With VTL, you can create multiple drives for free, and then present those drives to different master/media servers. Because of this, NetApp advises to NOT purchase SSO when using a VTL. I think that's an interesting point. Is anyone out there using SSO VTL? I'm interested in seeing how other folks have implemented these two technologies together.
