[Veritas-bu] NetBackup Database Manager service terminated error 21
Im running netbackup 7.0.1 on 2003 x64. The server hardware is new, an HP DL580. Once or twice a week the Netbackup Database Manager service craps out causing a round of failed backups. This appears in the windows eventlog. Event Type: Error Event Source: Service Control Manager Event Category: None Event ID: 7024 The NetBackup Database Manager service terminated with service-specific error 21 (0x15). Symantec is stumped. Has anyone experienced this or have any ideas on how to track down what could be causing it? Good Morning, Do you have any other app or system event errors at that time? Is netbackup creating any windows dmp files. Do you have the netbackup debug logs turned on. If so what do you see in those logs. In the log bpdbm? len -Original Message- From: veritas-bu-boun...@mailman.eng.auburn.edu [mailto:veritas-bu-boun...@mailman.eng.auburn.edu] On Behalf Of bdiddy Sent: Saturday, October 30, 2010 8:23 PM To: VERITAS-BU@MAILMAN.ENG.AUBURN.EDU Subject: [Veritas-bu] NetBackup Database Manager service terminated error 21 Im running netbackup 7.0.1 on 2003 x64. Re: [Veritas-bu] NDMP backup failing with 99
Try adding the following entry to the top of your file selection for those backups: SET HIST=N This will stop the netapps sending history to Netbackup. Obviously less than ideal, but a good starting point for troubleshooting. Also, look in your consolidated logs vxlogview -p NB -o ndmp For the real error. Since then backups are failing with 99 generic error code. Backups if ran through another filer like a 3 way NDMP backup complete successfully. Usually for a NDMP backup to complete successfully, it has to clear all five phases but when looked into the affected filer's logs, we saw the backup fails at Phase 2. I have really no idea from where to start. Any clue will be appreciated. Thanks in advance. Regards, Saran The information contained in this e-mail and its attachments is confidential. Re: [Veritas-bu] NDMP backup failing with 99
Saran May be a problem with the tape drive or the tape drive config or the tape drive cabling. What type of tape library do you have? Can you tell us a little more about the tape drives and how they are connected to the netapp filer. Can you issue the netapp commands . sysconfig -t . storage show tape Check the device name from the sysconfig -t with that defined in netbackup. Can you issue the command mt -f device status With a tape loaded. Can you try a few other mt commands. Do you see anything in the bptm log The old and new netbackup ndmp logs. Anything in the netapp /vol/vol0/etc/messages file Can you turn on ndmp debugging and then check the netapp ndmp debugging log. Good luck len From: veritas-bu-boun...@mailman.eng.auburn.edu [mailto:veritas-bu-boun...@mailman.eng.auburn.edu] On Behalf Of Saran Brar Sent: Sunday, October 31, 2010 6:32 AM To: veritas-bu@mailman.eng.auburn.edu Subject: [Veritas-bu] NDMP backup failing with 99 Hello everyone, We just installed two NDMP drives on one of our NetApp filers. Re: [Veritas-bu] NDMP backup failing with 99
First of all thank you very much Len for taking your time out to write such detailed troubleshooting steps. Now please find some of the answers to your queries: 1. Tape Library - Storagetek L700 2. Tape drives are HP and are fibre connected to the filers 3. I can successfully run sysconfig -t command and it shows two drives connected to the filer. I am going to run other commands and share my findings. Thanks once again.
