[Veritas-bu] Ex2k3 Snapshot Backups (VSS)
Morning I have TB's of Exchange Data, and do Information Store backups. These usually get finished in roughly 6 hours or so. I got an Eval License to look at Snapshot Backups for Exchange 2k3. Environment is all pure Windows Master and Media Servers Created a new Policy, ensured the NetBackup Client Service was using a Domain Account with permissions. Ensure the policy had perform snapshot backups and using VSS Ran it ... but its slower than I expected. Just wondered if anyone had any real experience on this, as I dont want to fork out alot of money for something that I thought would be better (and it should be!) Re: [Veritas-bu] Failover server for resilience
This sounds like something I done before! Providing this standby Server has same name and same IP and configured with the same OS and Same NetBackup version, then its simply a case of doing a restore of the Hot Catalog Backup! Obviously the 2 servers cannot be on the network at the same time, but if SERVER1 dies and you reconfigure the standby server as SERVER1, IP, config, then it is a case of restore and you should be good to go. The plan is to use one of the servers as a 'hot' standby machine and only use if/when the primary server fails for any reason. There is no budget for full clustering which would be ideal so I was wondering if anyone has any experience or suggestions for this kind of cheap resilience scenario. I did plan to rsync (or copy in Windows) the Netbackup database on a regular basis and test everything would work as expected after turning off the primary server but hopefully someone has a better suggestion. All the clients are Windows so I would put both Master servers in the client configuration and also add all the clients to the both Netbackup master servers. I did plan on stopping the Netbackup daemons and only start if a failover was required.?? Please note, this is a disk to disk solution only no tapes are involved which may make things easier or even harder!!. +-- |This was sent by steven.ho...@virgin.net via Backup Central. |Forward SPAM to ab...@backupcentral.com. +-- ___ Veritas-bu maillist - Veritas-bu@mailman.eng.auburn.edu http://mailman.eng.auburn.edu/mailman/listinfo/veritas-bu This email (including any attachments) may contain confidential and/or privileged information or information otherwise protected from disclosure. Re: [Veritas-bu] Ex2k3 Snapshot Backups (VSS)
We are doing snap backup from the CCR Secondary copy with good performance. What does take a little time (Not much, but we do see it) is the exchange consistency checks and log replay on the snapshot. We have a similar amount of data to you. What disk subsystem do you have for the exchange data? The mailstore backup is a big sequential read of all your data. You may want to check you don't have online maint windows scheduled for when you are running the backup as that will fill up your snapshot delta fast and make both things run a lot slower than you would like. I haven't checked recently, but we backup a TB of Exchange in about 3 hours. It is Exchange 2007 though, and we are backing up to DataDomain DD660. I love the Optimized Dupe of that data :) On 2/1/2011 7:50 AM, WEAVER, Simon (external) wrote: Saran There is tons. That is not the issue.
