Re: [Veritas-bu] How to use the DataDomain system cleaning process
The cleaning process is pretty simple. I haven't even really found a need to look at it since initial install. the NBU image cleanup is what frees up the backup image files via OST. The daily cleanup on the DD then cleans up the compressed fragments that are no longer referenced. If your EMC Rep can't get you the admin guide I would be very surprised. There is not much to the cleanup in the admin guide. You basically just need to figure out when you aren't planning to be doing a high volume of backups or duplications. For me it was easy dealing only with 2 adjacent timezones. On 2/7/2011 10:03 PM, nguytom wrote: > anyone has DD administrator guide, please share it to me. Re: [Veritas-bu] BE Agent in OpsCenter not starting
Never mind…I just didn’t look at the agent closely… my client had the agent pointed to the BE servers, not the OpsCenter server. As soon as I changed that and just had the data collectors under it we were all good. [Veritas-bu] VCB backup troubleshooting
Hey All, Hopefully someone can answer this one nice and quickly for me... With VCB troubleshooting, I'm used to looking in the bpfis logs for the contents of the VCB logging file (written in with a prefix of "onlfi_freeze_fim_fs" after the Netbackup specific log entries). I've just jumped onto one of our boxes that's having issues with its VCB jobs, and the entries I'm expecting aren't in the bpfis log? Anyone know why they wouldn't be showing up? Is there a minimum system log level, or has something changed in VCB or NB version changes (I'm looking at VCB1.5U2 and NB 6.5.5)... I don't think I've looked at an environment with versions this high in the past, wondering if something has broken the cross logging... Re: [Veritas-bu] Netabckup server registry entries change after eachreboot
Hi Saran If this is one Server that is causing the problem, then it could be corrupt registry. I have seen this issue before, but for the life of me, cannot find the article about it. Is there any 3rd party software that prevents changes to the registry at all? It does not sound like a NetBackup problem - For example, if you remove Netbackup or disable the Services, does the same problem appear? Any other changes to the Server that may have occurred ? Anything different on this Server, compared to others? Are you rebooting into "last known good" configuration? Windows keeps two copies of the registry around just in case you reboot and the system won't come back. -Jonathan From: veritas-bu-boun...@mailman.eng.auburn.edu [mailto:veritas-bu-boun...@mailman.eng.auburn.edu] On Behalf Of Saran Brar Sent: Monday, February 07, 2011 10:38 AM To: Ed Wilts Cc: veritas-bu@mailman.eng.auburn.edu Subject: Re: [Veritas-bu] Netabckup server registry entries change aftereach reboot Hi Ed, Its just one server which has the problem. Re: [Veritas-bu] Vmware backups under 7.0
Hi Simon, Works fine, lasts a long time. You may notice some degradation in throughput on individual VM’s as opposed to physical servers but nothing a little careful scheduling can’t get you around. I really like the idea that my offsite backups are vmdk’s which can be restored and hooked up to any esx system. With windows VM’s you can also do granular restores. I hear in 7.1 we will be able to do the same with unix VM’s. We use this in conjunction with netapp smvi backups for our onsite backups. Very slick and very fast.
