[Veritas-bu] Open file backup error
Hello Geeks, I am facing issue with one of my windows 2003 SP2 server. It is on Netbackup 6.5.4 and whenever I try to take its backup using VSP or VSS it fails after long ( The parent streams runs for long)But whenever I disable open file ,it runs fine. I need to take open file backups..Please suggest what is the issue, other clients with same version are running fine and there is no VSS error in this. Re: [Veritas-bu] Open file backup error
Hi, What are you trying to backup? Database files? Open PST files? Are you using DFSR replication? What version is your master, media servers? -- Typically though you want to go to: Host Properties -> Client Attributes -> Add the client name here. -> Click the Windows Open File Backup tab. -> Click [x] Enable Windows Open File Backups for this client. -> Click Snapshot Provider: Use VSS -> Individual drive snapshot (seems to work best..) -> Snapshot Error Control (Disable Snapshot & continue) Justin. Hi, Please try what I noted below, also show media, master and client logs with VERBOSE=5 or the max in windows respectively, show/check the bptm, bpbkar logs and paste the error here. First, don't bother using VSP. It has known issues and eventually goes away in version 7.x. In addtion to all the other suggestions, take a look at the Windows Event Log for any VSS errors. [Veritas-bu] Using NetBackup for Desktops/Laptops backup
DLO is painful. Plain and simple. It's also a technology that Symantec hasn't updated in YEARS, other than improving on client compatibility. I'd look elsewhere than DLO for backup. I also would not suggest BESR from Symantec either, as they'll want you to deploy a FULL Altiris install to manage it, to get their grubby paws in other parts of your network. We're looking at Microsoft's Data Protection manager here for this purpose. Testing isn't complete, so no verdict is in. But the price of online solutions is such that doing this in-house is the only reasonable alternative. -Jonathan ___ Veritas-bu maillist - Veritas-bu@mailman.eng.auburn.edu http://mailman.eng.auburn.edu/mailman/listinfo/veritas-bu

There is no concept of "frequency" in calendar jobs. It may be obvious to you that the single selection of last Saturday is less frequent than all Saturdays, but not to NBU. At one time, I thought I came across some documentation that said that calendar schedules were given priority based on alphabetic order of the name. I have some "black magic" policies where I have done this and they work wonderfully and consistently (actually migrated from 5.x systems and currently running on 6.5.5), but I have not been able to find the documentation where I think I read this, nor have I done extensive work to see if it's correct. I have a companion site on 6.5.6 with some very similarly configured policies, and that one has some issues with incorrectly re-running successful jobs. I don't know if it's a particular problem with 6.5.6, or if this just shouldn't work. -- Darren ___ Veritas-bu maillist - Veritas-bu@mailman.eng.auburn.edu http://mailman.eng.auburn.edu/mailman/listinfo/veritas-bu

Dear Rusty, I am heaving this issue, But it is intermittent. In my case it is happening only during the weekly Full Backup. My Master/Media Server = Linux (Redhat 5.4) My Client = Windows 2003 SP2. This is a Windows File Server with capacity of 1.2 TB. This server is running on VM. << (Embedded image moved to file: pic64397.gif) >> I have logged this case with support but they could not conclude the root cause. As we are not getting any error on the OS side.
