Re: [Veritas-bu] Netbackup to VTL fast with first tape then slow thereafter

2011-06-09 Thread Rusty.Major
Try looking at the BPTM and BPDM logs (T for Tape, D for Disk). I don't
know if a VTL will go to TM or DM...I would assume TM since NBU thinks
it's a tape still.

Sounds fishy since it changes drastically after the second 'tape' is
mounted. Have you searched to see if there is a known issue?

[Veritas-bu] Netbackup to VTL fast with first tape then slowthereafter

I'm writing my jobs to VTL then using SLP to get them to LTO5. I've
noticed that when i start a job it jumps right up and the speed is 25MB -
40MB then after the "tape" fills and a second one is "loaded" the KB/Sec
drops to 2MB - 4MB and the speed never raises for subsequent "tapes".

However when I write directly to LTO5 the jobs average 40MB - 60MB. Using
an EMC Clarion VTL. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Is there a log in NBU that would indicate these write speed fluctuations?
Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

[Veritas-bu] DB2 partition restarts?

2011-06-09 Thread Donaldson, Mark
We've got some DB2 DBA's that are asking if anybody has worked out a way
to do partition restarts should one partition fail on a DB2 DPF
database.

I'm thinking the best way would be to have their backup script be very
smart but I'm not sure how to suggest making it smart.

Anybody doing this?

[Veritas-bu] Symantec Netbackup 7 Snapshot and Solaris 10 with SVM discs

2011-06-09 Thread mlogic
correction:

Hi,

We were advised to used snapbackup to backup our mail server running on Solaris
10 with disc managed by SVM, mirrored and over 8 millions files split across
different partitions.

Backup policy configured as advised and policy type set to Flashbackup and
checked 'perform snapshot backups' with snapshot method to 'auto'. Run backup
and returned status 0 after 2 days for parent job and all child jobs. Over all
backup looked success, however trying to do restore and see NO images on tapes
for this policy and schedule types.

Is snapbackup not compitable with volumes managed by svm?

Regards,

Mike
