[Veritas-bu] IBM Netezza
Does anyone use an IBM Netezza device and back it up with Netbackup 7.x? IBM is insisting that Symantec supports/ships a 32-bit Linux client for the 7.x version of Netbackup and no amount of me saying "No, you're wrong" will sway them. I even put in a ticket with Symantec who said, "We don't offer a NetBackup 7.x client for 32 bit Linux operating systems, but the NetBackup 6.5.x client does support the 32 bit version of RedHat 3.0 to 6.0." Still, IBM insists that there's a 32-bit client available for 7.x. Today they said that when I untar the 64-bit client, there'll be 32-bit items in there. I don't want to use the 6.x client because it's no longer supported. Any help would be appreciated. I'm running out of ways to say, "No, they don't". ___ Veritas-bu maillist - Veritas-bu@mailman.eng.auburn.edu http://mailman.eng.auburn.edu/mailman/listinfo/veritas-bu
[Veritas-bu] Old DR recover files
I just realized that I have a ton of old DR files on one of my servers and am just wondering if I can safely delete them. I don't see any reason to keep them, but thought I'd ask before going forward. Thanks. ___ Veritas-bu maillist - Veritas-bu@mailman.eng.auburn.edu http://mailman.eng.auburn.edu/mailman/listinfo/veritas-bu
[Veritas-bu] VMware backup host
Does a media server that's designated as a VMware off-host backup need to be attached to storage? The reason for asking is that my current server used for VMware backups is broken and I've been working with support to fix it for at least 2 weeks. I found another server and installed Windows 2008 R2 and Netbackups 7.1.0.4 on it. However...it doesn't have any storage attached to it. If I set the policy to use this server as the off-host backup server but specify another datastore, will this work? In essence what I'm trying to do is build a server to handle the Vmware backups, but using another media server to actually write the data. I'm going to look through the VMware admin guide, but also wanted to post the question to the group. ___ Veritas-bu maillist - Veritas-bu@mailman.eng.auburn.edu http://mailman.eng.auburn.edu/mailman/listinfo/veritas-bu
[Veritas-bu] Puredisk
Anyone out there using Puredisk? Do you like it? We're using it currently, but having all kinds of issues with it. We're getting help from backline engineers, Business Critical Engineers, and some high level TSE's, but it's still a giant pain in my opinion. Just curious if others have had problems with it. Our setup is single master, 3 media, and 5 PD servers running the 6.6.3a version of Puredisk. ___ Veritas-bu maillist - Veritas-bu@mailman.eng.auburn.edu http://mailman.eng.auburn.edu/mailman/listinfo/veritas-bu
[Veritas-bu] Image cleanup jobs
We recently upgraded our PureDisk environment to 6.6.3a and all of a sudden we're getting 30 - 40 Image Cleanup jobs running at the same time. The first time it occurred, support killed a PID that was hung, but this time that doesn't seem to be the case. Jobs will run for hours, then die, then the next in line seems to pick up where the other left off. I have a case open with Symantec, but am wondering if others have seen this problem. I've not applied the EEB that came out after 6.6.3a based on a recommendation from a backline engineer. [Veritas-bu] NBU 7.5.0.1
Met with our Symantec rep and our SE this morning and they're suggesting that we upgrade from 7.1.0.1 to 7.5.0.1. I'd planned on going to 7.1.0.4 because of the vSphere 5 support, but didn't plan on going to 7.5. Are any of you running 7.5 or 7.5.0.1 and how easy/painful was the upgrade from 7.1.0.1 or a similar point release. 7.5 does have some functionality that we'd like to use, but I wanted to know what others thought before we made the decision. [Veritas-bu] Starting a job from command line
I've had to split up our Exchange backups into 3 different policies for various reasons. In each policy, I list the names of the databases to back up. Even doing it like this, I get some occasional failures when backing them up. Is it possible to run a backup using bpbackup and specify the individual database I want to back up? For example, if a backup fails for Exchange database XDB01, will bpbackup allow me to specify just this specific database to back up...or would it be easier to create a copy of my Exchange backup and enter the specific database into that policy? I'm leaning towards doing it with a policy, but wondered if there were alternatives. [Veritas-bu] vmware api backups
Are any of y'all doing backups of your vmware guests (windows) using the vmware api within Netbackup? If so, what do you think of it as opposed to installing the client on the guest itself? I've read some of the documentation and I'm confused as to whether or not I need to use the api for file level restores or the vcb stuff for it? And last, how many guests are you backing up and how many windows media servers do you use for this? Emailed our NBU reps to get a meeting with them, but also wanted some "real world" advice as well. Also, thanks to those of you that responded to my email about Exchange 2010. It's working like a champ now. [Veritas-bu] Backing up Exchange 2010
I've read some conflicting information on this and wondered if y'all can help. We're running Exchange 2010 with a DAG and we're not using the granular backup/restore option within Netbackup. It's my understand that since we are not using granular backups/restores, then we do NOT need to modify the system account used by Netbackup. Is this true?? [Veritas-bu] Changing the retention period
Folks, The only way to change the retention period on backups that have already run is to use the BPEXPDATE command, correct? If I change the retention period on the policy, it has no effect on existing backup images...right? One of the admin's here said that if you changed the retention time in a specific policy in Tivoli, it would retroactively change the expiration date on existing backups. I'm 99% sure NBU doesn't do that, but just wanted to make sure. Thanks, Howard ___ Veritas-bu maillist - Veritas-bu@mailman.eng.auburn.edu http://mailman.eng.auburn.edu/mailman/listinfo/veritas-bu
