[Veritas-bu] Backup Network drives

2008-05-20 Thread Jerry Rioux
I'm adding a Windows backup policy and the network drives do not show
up as a selection in the file list. I have checked the backup network
drives on the attributes list.

 What am I missing?

Nbu 6.5
Windows master server.

Thanks

What do you mean by x64. Linux x86_64? Itanium? Something else?

If it is Linux x86_64 bit you can install the 2.4 kernel client (32 bit)
and add compatibility libraries to make it work properly.

Although I have managed to find 5.1 MP5 for x64, I cannot find a client.

I have an x64 on CD, but I am getting alot of problems with the volume

Is there a way to get the software, without the need to contact
 Symantec?

[Veritas-bu] NDMP tape drives

2008-04-29 Thread Jerry Rioux
We are running NB 5.1 on a Windows master and have 2 drive in an autoloader.
One drive is defined as an NDMP drive the other is a normal media drive. Can
I make an NDMP storage unit and point to the non-NDMP drive to do backup to
it?
Would the situation be any different if I upgraded to 6.5?

[Veritas-bu] restore file numbers and size

2008-04-21 Thread Jerry Rioux
We are running NB 5.1MP1 on Windows. We restored a local D: drive which was
about 152gb. It looks as if it restored everything but when I look at the
numbers they do not match up. I'm hoping someone can make this a lttle more
clear.

When I did the bpimport it showed the following:

266729 files
152279743 size (assuming this must be reporting in kb)

So after the restore the details of the restore job show these exact
numbers, so that is good. But when I goto windows and do a properties on all
the folders it restored (this is a restore to a new location), it shows the
following:

236736 files
142gb (153047930881 bytes)

Even if I times the 152279743kb by 1024 it would be 155934456832 (a
difference of about 2gb).

So my question is this: Is there a way, maybe command line, that I could get
the number of files and size of directories that NB thinks he has on tape. I
looked in the Backup, Archive, Restore gui and I could browse the directory
list but I could get a totoal number of files or size of the directories,
so that I could compare this with the actual files it restored.

Again, I think it restored everything but I would like to be able to know
where that difference is in the size and number of files (about 30,000 files
difference).

Any info would be appreciated.

Thanks

[Veritas-bu] Unexpected EOF reading image doing a bpimport

2008-04-16 Thread Jerry Rioux
I've run phase one of bpimport then run phase 2 and get this error after it
sccessfully imports 2 of the 4 images on the tape.

Could this be because the image has spanned across 2 tapes? If so, how would
I use bpimport to import those other 2 images?

[Veritas-bu] NB Upgrade 3.4 to 6.5

2008-03-03 Thread Jerry Rioux
We are planning the above mentioned upgrade. The catch is that we are
switching hardware and OS as well.
Currently running 3.4.1 on WinNT
New Backup server (which will have the same name) is Windows 2003 and will
have 6.5 loaded on it.

These are my proposed steps:

1 – Create a VM of WIN NT and install NB3.4

2 – Import NB catalog

3 – Upgrade VM and NB to 4.5

4 – Create a VM of Win 2003 and install NB 4.5

5 – Import 4.5 NB Catalog to win 2003 VM NB

6 – Upgrade NB to 5.0

7 – Upgrade NB to 6.0

8 – Install Configure NB 6.0 on Production server (plus patches)

9 – Import VM NB catalog to production server
Do you guys have any better options for doing this upgrade? The reason I am
using a VM is because I cannot load 3.4 on the new Backup server in order to
import the catalog.

Thanks,
Jerry

[Veritas-bu] snapvault storage unit

Windows master server running 6.5.

I am trying to create a new snapvault storage unit. I select the Disk

SnapVault server, those fields are blank.

Where does netbackup get this info?

Could this be a licensing issue?

[Veritas-bu] Driver issue?

2007-05-03 Thread Jerry Rioux
I have a quantum super loader 3 attached to a SUN v250 running solaris 8, which
is the master server. Backups start up just fine and it starts writing. Then
after about 12-15gb the backup fails with an 84 media write error and it
freezes the tape. This happens on several different tapes (lto3).

Does this sound like a driver issue? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Sir,

I am new to Veritas Netbackup.I have followed same manual suggested by you.

From client(where Oracle DB reside),I have generated template file through
backup wizard.

This template file was saved at Master server,I have copied it to client

After that

From Master server,I have created policy with type Oracle.I have given the
location of .tpl file in Backup selection.

But when Job executed,It was failed with status code 6.

I have searched web to troubleshoot error code 6,But It suggest me to verify
.tpl file only (Note: .tpl file is generated by Veritas and I have not changed
it)

So how to troubleshhot error code 6?

And Please also suggest me

1.How to verify that Master server is properly configured for taking Automatic
Oracle Backup?
2.How to verify that Client is properly installed?
3.Is it necessary to install Veritas client on repository database?

[Veritas-bu] hot database backup (oracle)

2007-01-26 Thread Jerry Rioux
We are running into a performance problem at the time we are running hot
database backups. The web logics application times out while trying to
write a transaction to the db. The Netapp filer, which the storage is
on, gets close to 100% disk utilization and we are seeing NFS read
latencies. We are still running NB 4.5.

Does anyone think that upgrading Netbackup would have any affect on
this?
