How many days back can advanced reporter report on? It
currently reports on 28 days. Can this number of days be configured to record
history for the previous 365 days?

[Veritas-bu] confirm procedure for NDMP agent upgrade

2006-07-28 Thread Kilpatrick, Mark

I am upgrading a solaris server from 4.5 to 5.1. The server
currently uses NDMP. The manual for ndmp does not mention the procedure for an
upgrade install of the ndmp package. I intend to remove the ndmp package before
I remove the netbackup packages (selecting Y to part of an upgrade). Then when
netbackup 5.1 is installed I will install the 5.1 ndmp agent. Is removing the
NMDP package prior to the upgrade the correct procedure?

[Veritas-bu] restore of a few MB is reporting many GB and taking a long time

2006-07-27 Thread Kilpatrick, Mark

I am looking at a data recovery issue where the restore of a
few files of a few Mb’s has taken 1.5 hours and the Netbackup job has
reported the restore as 87Gb. This problem has come up before on an exchange restore
but when we tried to replicate the problem the restore worked fine. We have
netbackup 6.0 mp2 on server and client. Has anyone seen or aware of this being
a known bug?

[Veritas-bu] single instance backup for message attachments

2006-04-26 Thread Kilpatrick, Mark

What happens if I enable the option of “single
instance backup for message attachments” under exchange field of client

will be different in a mailbox backup if I enable this option? How will backup
time and restore time of mailboxes be effected.

Single Instance Storage is used by our exchange server.

[Veritas-bu] client upgrade from 4.5fp6 to 6.0

2006-04-21 Thread Kilpatrick, Mark

The upgrade of netbackup server from 4.5 requires that you
go to v5.x first before upgrading to v6.0

Is this necessary for client upgrades. Must I upgrade 4.5 clients to v5

[Veritas-bu] determine backup ID with File List

2006-01-31 Thread Kilpatrick, Mark

If I use bpimagelist to retrieve a list of backup IDs
associated with a client backup how can I determine which job (file system) is
associated with which backupID. For example if I want to duplicate the E:\
drive but my client has a C D and E I am unable to determine which of the three
backupIDs from the previous nights backup is the E: drive.

Even when using the GUI to duplicate I can see the three
backup IDs but no indication as to which is the E drive.

My temporary work around is to start a restore of a file on
the e drive and find out the backup ID from the recover job details. This is
not ideal for many duplication jobs.

Any tips??

[Veritas-bu] override media server VERSUS bpimage -newserver

2006-01-31 Thread Kilpatrick, Mark

I would like to change the media server that I recover from
in a veritas 5.1 MP4 Windows 2003 environment. I have managed to successfully do
this by using the command bpimage –newserver nbumedia –oldserver
nbumaster. What exactly is the command doing when it is run? Is it accessing
every image in the database. At present it takes about 45 seconds to complete. Can
I expect this time to increase as my catalog size increases?

Unfortunatley I have not been able to successfully use the bpimage
command to change the media server for just one backup ID (using the –backupid
syntax). The sysntax is accepted correctly but the bpimage appears to have made
the changes for all images rather than the backupid that I specified.

Finally, Is anybody successfully using the hosts properties option of ‘override
media server. When I use this option and restart the services there is no
change in the media server used to restore data.

Thanks for any help with these queries.

Mark

[Veritas-bu] moving client from one policy causes a full backup!!

2006-01-19 Thread Kilpatrick, Mark

Hi, I have backed up a client at level full last Friday and
I have run successful differential-incremental backups on Monday and Tuesday. Yesterday
I moved this client to another policy and de-activated its previous policy.
Last night the backup ran at level differential-incremental but the client is
doing a full backup (250GB). The other clients have done a diff-inc as
expected. I am aware that backing up a client for the first time will force a
full backup. I am not aware that moving a client to another policy would force
a full backup.

I also experienced this last week with the same client by
moving it to another policy. Is this how the product should function? We are
using veritas netbackup 5.1 MP4 on Win2003 with win2003 clients.

Thanks, Mark

[Veritas-bu] Shared Drrives and use of media

2005-11-21 Thread Kilpatrick, Mark

Hi, I have two shared tape devices that are used by one
media server and three san media servers. Each time I run a backup with one
month retention each media server wants to use a separate tape so I require
that four tapes be in my library. The backups are going to the same pool
although different media servers. As it is a san environment the media is not segregated,
it is all in the same library.

If I have a san environment must each piece of media by
allocated to a san media server and is then not usable by another media server.
I prefer if all four of my media servers use the same tape. If I have to put in
a tape for each media server then my library will fill up.

Any suggestions, Thanks.

[Veritas-bu] RE: How to troubleshoot a Firewall Client Backup with Clustered Netbackup Server

2005-11-08 Thread Kilpatrick, Mark

I got some great information from
responses on this list to my firewall issue. I was able to use all the
troubleshooting tips to suggest that the problem lied with the firewall. I
could telent from the client to the media server but I could NOT telnet from
the media server to the client. This has now been resolved but I have not yet
had a successful backup. The client is now creating logs for bpcd and the error
message is Reserved Port Mismatch.

Any ideas what Reserved Port Mismatch
could be? Am I still looking at a firewall issue?

NAT is turned off for my IP addresses in
question. There are two firewalls in the picture, using Check Point and Side
Winder.

Thanks again.

Subject: How to troubleshoot a
Firewall Client Backup with Clustered Netbackup Server

Hi, I am attempting to backup two
Solaris NBU5.1 clients through a firewall and they are unsuccessful. I would
like some pointers on troubleshooting this procedure.

The firewall rules have been set up
for bpcd (13782) going out to the client from the master server and media
servers.

The firewall rules have been set up
for vnetd (13724) going into the server.

The client attribute of vnetd port
has been selected from the master server properties for each of the clients.

When selecting the client properties
from the NBU admin interface the error of cannot connect on socket (status 25)
returns immediately

When running a test backup the error
of (58) can’t connect to client returns almost immediately.

I have run the bpclient
–client –nameofclient –L command on each of the firewalled
clients and the No call back connections is set to yes. But the IP address
returned is 0.0.0.0

I have checked the /etc/services and
/etc/inetd.conf on each client

I have checked the bp.conf on each
client and server and media server names are present

I have checked /etc/hosts on server
and client

I have enabled logging of bpcd and
vnetd on the clients but there are no log files created – indicating no
communication with the clients from the master

I have enabled logging of bpcd on
the master

How can I determine if the problem
lies with the firewall rules created by the firewall admin team or with
netbackup (version 5.1 HP-UX running on a VCS cluster). Could the issue be
related to the fact that I have a netbackup clustered server. The firewall
rules only specify the virtual server hostname. Addition of physical name and
IP to firewall rules is not possible.
