Re: [Veritas-bu] Vstorage API and Cumulative Restores

2011-12-06 Thread O'Byrne, Colette
Thanks George - I did a test on a different machine this morning and I can see
that it works and the cumulative and full are recombined.

I think for the machine that gave me a problem we faced the following issue as
detailed in this technote.

Hi Colette.

When restoring a VM from a vStorage API incremental backup, NetBackup
automatically recombines all incrementals and the full. There is no need to
manually restore any incremental backups to recreate the VM.

NBU 7.0.1
I am currently having an issue with a cumulative incremental for a vmware
backup. We use the vstorage api's. I was under the impression that it was
possible to restore the VM from a cumulative backup using BLIB and Change
tracking. Would like to hear from you if you have some experienc in this
regard. I was advised by Symantec that the the only way to recover is to
restore a full using nbu bar option restore typ "VM backup" and then
subsequently restore from the cumulative using restore type "normal backup".
Anyone doing full VM restores from cumulative using restore type VM backup?
Many thanks. Colette

[Veritas-bu] BMR Recovery

2008-05-22 Thread O'Byrne, Colette
Hello,
Is it possible to use BMR to recover a server that is still in
production; i.e. bring it up with new IP info and new name - from the
admin manual it seems that I need to keep the original host name - has
anyone experience with this? Our goal is to build a small lab, identical
to production environment but that will be virtualized and isolated from
production network. Thanks for any thoughts. Colette

[Veritas-bu] NBU 6.0 MP4 - BMR Physical to Virtual Restore

2007-09-26 Thread O'Byrne, Colette
Good morning,

Does anyone have any experience using BMR Fast Boot CD to recover a
physical machine to a virtual machine; I am currently testing this and
have some questions relating to the "prepare to restore" configuration
and the mass storage drivers to be used during the restore when it comes
to virtual machines? Thanks in advance. Colette

[Veritas-bu] NOM - hard disk capacity

2007-01-26 Thread O'Byrne, Colette
Hi,
I am trying to estimate hard disk capactiy for new installation of NOM
but cannot find anything with the NOM documentation. We have one master
and two media and a catalog size of 40 GB (not sure if that is relevant
or not); does anyone have any thoughts on NOM server sizing? Thanks,
Colette

[Veritas-bu] NBU 6 MP 3 (is SSO license necessary ?)

2006-11-02 Thread O'Byrne, Colette
Title: Message

I have one master/media server with four drives;
currently two drives are dedicated as ndmp; With NBU 6 can I now share
these drives without having to purchase the SSO license; I am under the
impression that the SSO option is only if  you wish to share the drives
among different media servers; and if this is the case what do I need to do to
make the two ndmp configured drives to become available for normal windows
clients when they are free.  Grateful for any comments.  Thanks,
Colette

[Veritas-bu] Migration from 4.5 FP3 to 6.0 (in our case 5.1 MP 4 to 6.0 MP 3)

2006-09-05 Thread O'Byrne, Colette
Title: Message

Hi all,

We took the plunge
last week ourselves - besides an initial problem resulting in hanging processes
which was immediately addressed by the following:

Exact Error Message
The application
failed to initialize properly (0xc142). Click on OK to terminate the
application.
Details:
Overview:On a NetBackup 6.0 Server, errors occur in
the application event log stating "Application Error : The application failed to
initialize properly (0xc142). Click on OK to terminate the application."
This may occur for several different NetBackup
processes.Troubleshooting:These symptoms may appear if
the NetBackup server has run out of non-interactive desktop heap space.
Adjusting the size of the non-interactive desktop heap has been known to
resolve this error.

Once we addressed this problem - we seem
to be in the clear - and have run successful scheduled weekly fulls, monthly
fulls, restore and duplicate jobs.  Good luck
