[Veritas-bu] RMAN Backup problem
Hi, We are facing strange issue for backup of one of the client using RMAN. The netbackup server is 5.1 hosted on solaris and the client is windows. There are 4 databases hosted on the client but out of these 4 databases backup of one of them has been failing. Below is the error: Released channel: t2 RMAN-00571: === RMAN-00569: === ERROR MESSAGE STACK FOLLOWS === RMAN-00571: === RMAN-03009: failure of backup command on t1 channel at 02/13/2011 09:28:04 ORA-19506: failed to create sequential file, name="epla_df_lev0_26916_1_742987657", parms="" ORA-27028: skgfqcre: sbtbackup returned error ORA-19511: Error received from media manager layer, error text: VxBSAValidateFeatureId: Failed with error: Server Status: cannot connect on socket If the client isnt able to connect to Netbackup, then this should be the case for all the backups being taken from the client. But backup for other 3 databases is going on absolutely fine, only this one is failing. Would need all expert opinion as in what to look for and where could be the problem. [Veritas-bu] Issues with Oracle backup Netbackup 5.1

Default: 1 > job. > > > This can also be set per client - so if the Global is like 8 but you still > have queue, again in the master properties look at Client Attributes > See if a client is listed here, if yes then look at the General tab and see > if the client has be set to limit the number of data streams > > The Maximum data streams property specifies the maximum number of jobs that > are allowed at one time for each selected client. (This value applies to the > number of jobs on the client, even if multistreaming is not used.) This is oracle database backup and multistream at client side is set to 4. The Maximum jobs per client value is set to 10. Strange thing is not even the single stream/job of this client is active when the backup is started all of them are queued for 1 or 2 hours before they become active. This client is hosted on solaris and there are two database running on single physical server and both of the database hava seperate logical hostname and are registered seperately on Netbackup. Logically they should be treated as different clients(?) Is there any kind of tracing we can enable on client to have some extra details which may help? > First in the gui add the column to your view "state details" > That will tell you why a job is not running. > > Could be you have on your storage unit, max drives, or max jobs and if those > have been met then the job will queue. > sorry but i could not find "state details" as column in activity monitor , maybe its not there in 5.1. Also there is no value set on Max. Conc. Jobs in storage unit. > Is your storage unit definitely configured to use all the drives? > And this may seem like a strange thing to ask but what is your > client_connect_timeout set to on your master server? Yes it is configured to use all the drives. The client_connect_timeout value is 4000 seconds. Another thing which i noticed is that Maximum multiplexing per drive is set as 4 on storage unit. But multiplexing is set as 16 on policies. Could this be the reason for queued jobs? But at times i have noticed that 1 out of 8 drives is utilised and still there are approx 5-6 jobs in queued state and when i see job details there is nothing. +-- |This was sent by sushil.gamb...@gmail.com via Backup Central. |Forward SPAM to ab...@backupcentral.com. +-- ___ Veritas-bu maillist - Veritas-bu@mailman.eng.auburn.edu http://mailman.eng.auburn.edu/mailman/listinfo/veritas-bu
[Veritas-bu] Issues with Oracle backup Netbackup 5.1
Another thing which i noticed in logs there were many jobs which were in queued state but only 4 drives out 0f 8 were utilised. I can not find the reason why the jobs were queued if the tape drives were available. Strange enough those queued jobs became active after 2 hours. I have no idea what those jobs were waiting for in those 2 hours, is there any way to find that out? And also what could be the reason for this? [Veritas-bu] Issues with Oracle backup Netbackup 5.1
All, I have been facing strange issues with some of the oracle database backups. Some days backup run successfully and some days its either long running or fails with error "54" or "6". We had a theory that it could be because all the tape drives were busy thats why backups were long running but it appears thats not the issue. It will be great if anybody could guide me as to what to look for in order to determine the root cause of this issue. [Veritas-bu] Netbackup client backup result
Hi, We are running Netbackup 5.1 on solaris. My question is: Is there a report that could be generated showing the results of the backups? or is there any way we can check backup status at client end like we have dsmsched.log in TSM, something like that? [Veritas-bu] L700 drive error
Hi, We are running NB 5.1 on Solaris. There is some issue with the drive which goes offline every week. To resolve that issue case was logged with SUN support, they think its the configuration issue on Netbackup rather than hardware issue. For that they have asked for some logs. I am absolutely new to NB and dont know how to get the logs. Here is what they have asked for: Please check the Activity monitor, you should have a line similar to this one: - requesting resource .NBU_POLICY.MAXJOBS.test_exit_nn The "test_exit_nn" part is the one I am interested in. Please run the following command: # /usr/openv/netbackup/bin/admincmd/bpplist test_exit_nn -U There will be a line called "Residence: ", I need you to run the following command: # /usr/openv/netbackup/bin/admincmd/bpstulist -label -U Thanks Sushil +-- |This was sent by sushil.gamb...@gmail.com via Backup Central. |Forward SPAM to ab...@backupcentral.com. +-- ___ Veritas-bu maillist - Veritas-bu@mailman.eng.auburn.edu http://mailman.eng.auburn.edu/mailman/listinfo/veritas-bu

[Veritas-bu] Scratch carts
Hi, We have Netbackup 5.1 on Solaris in our setup, until last week the consumption of Scratch carts was pretty normal but its eating carts like anything now. We have not added anything extra. As I am newbie to this stuff I am not able to figure out the reason. Is there any way to know if Netbackup is expiring images or not. Maybe this is happenning because NB is not expiring images. I have no clue, what to look for and where to look for. Looking forward to your reply on this.
