Re: [Veritas-bu] media ID not unique in database (34)
Have you checked how the library reads the barcode labels? Have you checked your barcode rules? I had this problem: a) If I have barcode rules in place setup to read only the first 6 characters of the barcode label. Netbackup media manager shows 2 columns the barcode label with 6 characters and the other with the extended (L1 ,L2 etc.) b) If the tape library is setup to send extended barcode labels 6+ characters or "standard" make sure that the library barcode labels matches Netbackups media list. run vmcheckxxx -rt tld -rn 0 -rh "your media server" -list look at the Barcode column to see what the library send to Netbackup. __ Efrain Vargas From: Martin, Jonathan [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Wednesday, September 17, 2008 10:34 PM To: Randy Samora; veritas-bu@mailman.eng.auburn.edu Subject: Re: [Veritas-bu] media ID not unique in database (34) I don't' suppose its possible to right click on the media with the issue and change their locations to stand alone? But this time it's being stubborn. I've printed out a report and I'll just pull the tapes that were manually put in there and inventory them through the mail slots. I know there has to be a way to "resync" but I need scratch tapes now for tonight's backups but if anyone knows the answer, there's a trip to Hawaii in it for you, all expenses paid except flight, hotel, meals and drinks. For example Barcode 123456 is in slot 1 then I move it to slot 2 while changing media. The next time I inventory NBU complains that that media is already in the robot in slot1. In most cases running a 2nd inventory immediately following this clears up the issue. -Jonathan From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Randy Samora Sent: Wednesday, September 17, 2008 6:57 PM To: veritas-bu@mailman.eng.auburn.edu Subject: [Veritas-bu] media ID not unique in database (34) My tape dude didn't want to inventory new tapes into the library 54 at a time so he opened the door and inserted 200 tapes. Re: [Veritas-bu] lost policy
Do you backup this master server as a regular client in another location? If you do, then just restore the missing policy from backup The default location of the policies is /usr/openv/netbackup/db/class __ Efrain Vargas -Original Message- From: Preston, Doug [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Thursday, September 18, 2008 11:25 AM To: veritas-bu@mailman.eng.auburn.edu Subject: Re: [Veritas-bu] lost policy When I had this issue I made sure I had a current catalog backup then I restored the catalog for 7 days ago and that restored my policies. [Veritas-bu] Online backup Recovery netbackup 6.5
Hi all, This is the first time I e-mail the group for help.. I am in the process of upgrading hardware on all our backup systems. Here are my challenges and hoping that someone will enlighten me as I have not got anywhere with Symantec Support. Old hardware consist of: 1 master server (e450) Solaris 9 4 media servers (n1405) Tape library L700e with 8 fiber drives New hardware consist of: 1 master server (t5140) Solaris 10 2 media servers (t5140) Same tape library I want to migrate the catalog from the old system using the online catalog backup method. My main issue is that in this process we want to change the hostname of the master and media server. Does anyone knows a way to do this? I have tried doing an online backup on the old system, recovered the backup on the new system but the recovery failed to restore the following files. 13:43:47 (67.xxx) /opt/openv/db/staging/EMM_DATA.db is not in the true image list. Skipping. 13:43:47 (67.xxx) /opt/openv/db/staging/EMM_INDEX.db is not in the true image list. Skipping. 13:43:47 (67.xxx) /opt/openv/db/staging/NBDB.db is not in the true image list. Skipping. 13:43:47 (67.xxx) /opt/openv/db/staging/NBDB.log.1 is not in the true image list. Skipping. 13:43:47 (67.xxx) /opt/openv/db/staging/databases.conf is not in the true image list. I did the same on a Windows master server and I was successful but I don't know what I missed on a Solaris system. Re: [Veritas-bu] Need to move tape images from 7.1 master to 7.5 master
Is the 7.5 environment a new server? If it is then you could do a catalog recovery in the new 7.5, if not then the easiest would be to: 1) Assigned/move all the long term media/images to the 7.1 master server 2) Decommission any media server in the 7.1 system if there are any 3) Create a new small partition on the I6000 with one drive assigned to it 4) Attached the 7.1 master to the new partition, configure NBU, make sure you can view and read the old media 5) Keep the 7.1 system online until all images expire then get rid of it Efrain Vargas, ITIL V3, SCS Sys Cslt-Sys Anly & Prog, Platform Engineering | Storage and Data Protection -Original Message- From: Vargas, Efrain Sent: Friday, June 06, 2014 1:42 PM To: 'Bahnmiller, Bryan E.'; VERITAS-BU@MAILMAN.ENG.AUBURN.EDU Subject: RE: [Veritas-bu] Need to move tape images from 7.1 master to 7.5 master Is the 7.5 environment a new server? You could duplicate the tape backups to a new DataDomain storage unit, and then do the import of the disk images on that storage unit (mtree.) That is a bit faster than tape imports, but it still takes time. We have 10 year retention backups that we have to maintain from an old 6.5 environment. We will upgrade the old environment to 7.6 eventually, but we will let it die on the vine. The catalog is almost 2TB - I sure as heck don't want to import all those tape images. The only limitation with AIR is that it will only work with new backups. The images are replicated to another NetBackup master server, but only as part of the backup process using SLP's. I am not aware of any AIR feature (today) that will allow you to import existing images. I could be wrong... I would think that Symantec is eventually going to expand the AIR type features, so that you can move existing images to a different NetBackup master. That would only make sense. (It would also let me move those 10 year retentions so I don't have to keep that other hardware around.) But for today, you have to plan with the existing features. Bryan ps. You can even partition the i500's. -Original Message- From: veritas-bu-boun...@mailman.eng.auburn.edu [mailto:veritas-bu-boun...@mailman.eng.auburn.edu] On Behalf Of Lightner, Jeff Sent: Friday, June 06, 2014 10:22 AM To: VERITAS-BU@MAILMAN.ENG.AUBURN.EDU Subject: Re: [Veritas-bu] Need to move tape images from 7.1 master to 7.5 master We have the scalar i6000 and it IS partitionable. If you can partition the Scalar (sorry- not familiar with that hardware) you could look into doing an AIR- which would mean copying the images too. Almost as annoying as re-scanning the tapes, but maybe a little less labor-intensive depending on your setup. Otherwise you are into Symantec Professional Services territory. Outside of AIR there is no supported way for customers to merge two catalogs. I've recently looked into this as well, and its just not supported. Not to say someone out there couldn't give you a home-baked method- but don't ask Symantec to help you out if things go sideways there. You have to pay Symantec to do the merge.
