[Veritas-bu] None of the slected hosts could be contacted

2010-10-27 Thread fredsharky
I would like to thank everyone that helped on this issue.

The fix was a very simple one that had been overlooked by numerous people.

I needed to add a client to the host properties and figured since I could not
do it through the gui I would use "bpclient", well that did not work either.

It gave me the following error:
pfexec: Exec format error

>From this I Googled the error and it talked about a file inconsistancy between
>Linux and Solaris (not my issue), but I did a file read on blclient and it was
>empty.

Cannot believe this was not noticed before, but in short I copied another one
from a sister client and all is well now on both the command line and gui..

@Scott - the bptestbpcd works fine

@WEAVER - nbconsole logs show nothing out of the ordinary and all names are
correct - Since this is a master server we have not rebooted it lately. I am
trying to get one now, but it may tke a few days to get the downtime scheduled.

Have not heard from Symantec yet, but hoping today we will get some kind of
answer or at least another direction.

It is really odd that it only affects the Master server in the Host Properties,
but not in the client or media server properties.

Anyways thanks for everyone digging in and pointing me in different directions
than were I was at..

@Len, we have checked everyplace we can think of for naming issues and all that
we have seen so far are correct.

@William, I am running both the jnbSA (from master) and the java windows gui
from my pc and neither work - and yes when i highlight the master server it
says connected - I can actually open up the master server under the media
server and client properties, just not under the master server properties.

@Simon, i can run the bpgetconfig just fine from the master.

I have opened a case with Symantec since we upgraded to 6.5.5, so hopefully
they can help..

Thanks for the suggestions..

2010-08-26 Thread fredsharky
We have a Solaris master server and windows vm client on 5.1

We can telnet, ping, traceroute, getconfig and anything else you can think of
to each other.

The problem we are having is when we go to the host properties > clients >
, it takes forever and a day to connect, it should time out, but never
does.

It does this on both the client and the master.

traceroute is only one hop and comes back instantly as does the telnets and
pings.

If more information is needed please ask.

First off this is a Solaris server running 5.1, yes 5.1. It just has not been
upgraded yet for some reason.

When in the gui (windows java or jnbSA) under "Host Prperties" - "Master
Server", when I click on the master server and try to access the "Properties" I
get this message "None of the slected hosts could be contacted"...

I have never seen this before and there is not much on the web, well nothing

Any thoughts would greatly be appreciated

[Veritas-bu] Need Information about Catalog Backup and DR exercise

2009-04-23 Thread fredsharky

We have an Enterprise Backup Solution (EBS) that has one master server and five
media servers and let's say 100 clients.

We want to be able to just pull a DR exercise on one of the clients. We run a
catalog backup on the master and that is it.

Well if we do the exercise we will have to to a catalog dump of the whole EBS.

My question is this; is there a way to do just a catalog backup of just the
clients, the media servers and the master server.

Meaning this:
Run catalog backup of master - set it up at DR site
Run catalog backup of one media server - set it up at DR site
Run catalog backup of client - set it up at DR site

My goal here is to get away from having to build the whole EBS environment when
we just want to the exercise on one client.

Can anyone at least give me a better way to accomplish this.

Fred

[Veritas-bu] Netbackup 6.5 Hot Catalog backup issue

2008-08-12 Thread fredsharky

I also have this same problem and all Symantec has had me do is upgrade.

Fist from 6.5 to 6.5.2 and now to 6.5.2A which was supposed to fix the issu,
but it did not.

I have tried recreating the backup several times.

i have noticed that the backup is basically good and that you can recover using
the email it sends out for the DR.

I just wish some one could figure this out, I still have a ticket opened with
Symantec so hopefully soon I will have a solution.

[Veritas-bu] 6.5.x catalog parent process hangs

2008-07-10 Thread fredsharky

Background:
Server-AIX5.3
Netbackup(old)-6.5
Netbackup(new)-6.5.2

I have a catalog backup setup to run on Mondays at 9:00 am and the email to get
sent to me.

Once the last stream is finished I get the DR email. The problem is the parent
process is hung and will not die. I left it out ther for three days to see if
it ever would and never did.

I have a support ticket opened on this, but so far the only thing "they" have
been able to tell me is to upgrade to 6.5.2, that did nothing and now I was
told to recreate the catalog, again nothing happened same problem.

Has anyone ever seen this and if so how do I fix it, if more information is
needed please let me know.

Fred
