Re: [Veritas-bu] SAN Switch Change caused NBU7 to lose tape drives

2010-07-08 Thread pharrold

Not sure on the Windows side, as that sounds like hardware/firmware.  However,
on the Solaris media server try running tpautoconf -report_disc

Its possible EMM is having "issues" with the new WWNs being presented and
thinks some of the drives are duplicates.

Fairly easy to clean up once you know what EMM is thinking:

Subject: [Veritas-bu]  SAN Switch Change caused NBU7 to lose tape drives

Hi everyone,

In one of my environments we replaced our old SAN switch with a new Cisco. We
went from 1 fabric on the old switch to 2 fabrics on the new Cisco switch.

We split up the tape drives 1, 2, 3, 4 on Fabric A. 5,6,7,8,9 on Fabric B.

After this switch, our media servers are having enormous trouble seeing the
tape drives at all. One media server see's 6 tape drives which makes no sense
at all. One media server see's all 9. Another media server see's 7.

No rhyme or reason to any of it. Why would a switch change cause this?

Our zone's have been thoroughly checked multiple times. Each tape drive is
presented to the media servers, I assure you.

One of our Windows media servers see's only 6 tape drives in Device Manager,
but San Surfer shows that the HBA see's all 9

A Solaris 9 media server see's 9 tape drives, but netbackup only see's 7.

So, what do you guys think could be going on? Do I need to do something to the
HBA's like reset, so they forget the previous paths? Could tape drivers be the
potential issue, can tape drivers cause an issue with 1 switch over another? I
am completely out of ideas so im throwing random ideas out... Anyone??

Re: [Veritas-bu] NDMP authentication failing for NetApp.

2009-06-04 Thread pharrold

Run "tpautoconf -verify ndmp_host_name " and verify that access is granted

Its located in /usr/openv/volmgr/bin

If it failes, enable ndmp debugging on the filer (ndmpd debug 50), and re-run

Check the filer's ndmps log (generally in //filername/$/etc/ndmpd.log) for
clues.

Subject: [Veritas-bu] NDMP authentication failing for NetApp.

Greetings,

I'm trying to get a remote NDMP backup connection going between my new 6.5.3
RHEL master and one of our NetApp filers (7.2.5.1).  We have a non-root account
on the filer (ndmpuser) and have given it a password.  This has been used by
Operations Manager in the past with no problems.  When I try to set up
credentials for that NDMP host, I use the user name "ndmpuser" and the
encrypted password I got from running "ndmpd password ndmpuser" on the filer.
This fails authentication.  The filer is running NDMP version 4.

The error message is coming back saying the media servers could not be reached
or the credentials are invalid.  The tape library is on the master server so I
have not set the filer up as a media server.  The filer is a production system
getting backups from 4 different countries so I'm reluctant to start changing
NDMP levels or password length options.

Please tell me what I'm missing.

Thanks,

Jeff

Re: [Veritas-bu] Jobs 196'ing at midnight (6.5.2)

2008-08-27 Thread pharrold
Open a support ticket - there are "undocumented features" with NBPEM in 6.5.2.
Support will verify a few things and give you an EEB to put on your system.

Yes, but if you want to back up Exchange 2007, then you will want to use
NetBackup 6.5. NetBackup 6.0 does not have support for Exchange 2007.

I would recommend upgrading to 6.0MP4 first, and get that working.
Let 6.5 stabilize for awhile before making that plunge. 6.5 was just released.

Has anyone got 6.5 yet? We are running NBU 5.0 MP7 on a predomintatly
solaris platform. We are due to upgrade h/w and s/w and i was wondering
was it worth going for 6.0 which seems to be used quite a bit by people
now, or do we go to new 6.5 ?

Also we have around 20 servers including a 2 node Sun Cluster ( attached
to T3 arrays ) running oracle10g. Is there anything special which can be
done with 6.5 or is it just worth still doing filesystem backups direct
to Tape

Thanks

Re: [Veritas-bu] Many false "50" errors and "200" errors

2007-03-26 Thread pharrold
There are a number of known defects with MP4. Open a support ticket,
specifying the string of 200s. errors. After you provide logs and get through
the escalation process you will be rewarded with a package of post-MP4 binaries
and libraries to install.

-- Original message --
From: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Ever since we upgraded to Netbackup 6.0MP4 on March 12 , we have started seeing
alot of what I call false "50" errors.
( we usually get these when we stop services on the master server, and they are
explainable) But now, we have been
getting them even though we have not stopped the services or interrupted
anything.

We are also getting a large number of "200" errors.

In all cases when the jobs are re-run they run fine.

Has anyone seen this with Netbackup 6.0MP4?
