Re: [Veritas-bu] Question about media server OS - Solaris on x86?
Can you share which features are not supported on Solaris/x64 ? Is there any document about it ? [Veritas-bu] Mixed tape drives in library
Hello, we have tape library with LTO4 (FC). We are going to add additional drives to this library but the question is if it is reasonable to add the same drives (LTO4) or add LTO5 ? What is you experience with mixing tapes drives type in libraries ? [Veritas-bu] Recommended FC array for D2D2T process
Hello, we are trying to reorganize our NBU policy backups by adding using D2D2T. One solution is to use low cost FC array (SATA disks). Do you have any recommendations regarding such solution (in terms of performance) on condition that: - there are about 20 - 30 policies per server - there are 4-6 servers - policies start at 22:00 - 02:00 - almost all policies should finish at about 6:00 - 7:00 - each server "pushes" about 2TB of data - we should have space for at least 2 days of archived data Regards Przemek ___ Veritas-bu maillist - Veritas-bu@mailman.eng.auburn.edu http://mailman.eng.auburn.edu/mailman/listinfo/veritas-bu
Re: [Veritas-bu] Architectural question (staging)
Are you sure about that: > ... not be able to stream data to a disk array If data from NBU policy goes as one stream and you direct them to particular arrays disks (each policy to different disks) it is sequential (not random !) IO pattern. In such case even SATA disks are able to cope with it and deliver high IOPS. [Veritas-bu] Solaris 10 zones backup - best practise
Hello, for a couple years we are heavily using Solaris 10 zones. So far we backup them using ufsdump/vxdump. We are investigating Netbackup as a replacement for ufsdump/vxdump. Our home-made backup scripts work more or less in the following way: 1. For all : 1.1 zlogin 1.2 shutdown 1.3 shutdown 2. For all : 2.1 create snapshot and storage checkpoint (depends on license we have) 2.2 start (automatic application startup) 3. For all vxfs snapshots 3.1 vxdump to tape 4. For all ufs snapshots 4.1 ufsdump to tape Basically we need similar approach using NetBackup (or if there is more optimized approach - please tell me). Can you share your experience regarding this topic ? What is your approach ? How many zones do you backup using NBU ? How long does your backup last ? Regards Przemyslaw Bak (przemol) -- http://przemol.blogspot.com/ -- Dobra czy zla wiadomosc? Zawsze warto oszczedzac. Teraz 5,5%.
