[Veritas-bu] Policy does not start

2009-09-24 Thread Servet Ince
Hi All,

Anyone has an idea about the following nbpem messages??

V-116-255 [Scheduler::findNextRun] policy policy_name, client
client_name, stream 0 submission for execution has been delayed because
of failure history

V-116-251 [PolicyClientTask::run] policy policy_name, client
client_name, schedule schedule_name will be submitted for execution at
11/13/2009 9:47:20 AM

Even I applied following technote, one of our policies doesn't start.
I've tried all ways (deleting, creating new one, deleting from
\db\class)..

PS: If I change the policy name it starts.. But we have to keep the
original policy name..

http://support.veritas.com/docs/305754

Please let me know..

Thanks. Regards.

2009-04-23 Thread Servet Ince
Hi Bob,

Thanks for reply. We have to show them to the Audit team, you know. We can't
show the logs, it doesn't make sense them, right. There should be another way;
from GUI or by command..

Thanks.

In an evaluation, I customized the audit log (that's in the manual)
and then used the audit log information in the Security Server's
/var/log/meso.log to produce reporting which included the mediaID,
backupID, keygroup and key for this purpose.

By the way, the version of NBU is 6.5.3 and running on Windows 2003.

I'm having the same issue for 6.5.1 / Solaris 10

There were DST fixes in 6.5.3.1. The 6.5.3.1 release also fixes remotely
exploitable security vulnerabilities. The vulnerability & fix is for Windows
and Solaris (and other Unixy platforms).

[Veritas-bu] RMAN User + Permissions of IMAGES

2009-02-19 Thread servet ince

Hi All,

I've fixed this issue. The client version was 5.1 MP4; after appliying the
6.5.3 patch to the client, the permissions have been changed as we want and as
it has to be.

Thanks for all replies.

Guys,

No need this kind of discussion, right!

We are here to share our experience and the subject is NBU now.

If anyone know what I really need, just let me know.. Otherwise no need more..

Why single me out for this? I wasn't asking - I was answering.

As to what is valid for this list I don't think anyone made you the arbiter.

2009/2/10 Jeff Lightner

If you're running RedHat Linux then sendmail comes with the distribution media.
If you didn't install from there you can or you can just do "yum install
sendmail" to install it from RedHat yum repositories.

Frankly, if you don't know what sendmail is, then sendmail is probably not for
you. Postfix is a much better MTA for admins not familiar with Linux MTAs.

Both are well documented and veritas-bu is not the right place to be discussing
their configurations.

[Veritas-bu] E-mail Notification on the LINUX (RedHat) Master Server

2009-02-09 Thread Servet Ince
Hello,

I'm trying to set the e-mail notification on the LINUX Master Server (6.5.1)

I've found the following document on the Symantec Knowledge Base;

http://seer.entsupport.symantec.com/docs/316365.htm

It tells that NetBackup uses the mail transfer agent sendmail to send email
notifications;

And they suggest that just set the needed settings on the Master Server GUI and
then Install it from the following Web site and configure your environment
accordingly:

http://www.sendmail.org/releases

I've dowload the suggested zip file, bur there is no readme,ınstallation guide
or like those something.

Does anyone know how can I set the e-mail notification?

Do I need to install the sendmail ?

Please advise..

Thanks, Regards.

Re: [Veritas-bu] RMAN BACKUPS

2009-02-09 Thread Servet Ince
Hello Mark,

I'm collogue of Asiye. 'rw' by owner is issue for us; because we are not able
to Duplicate the DATA to the another client. The permissions should be 640 at
least.

We have one more Oracle DB, and its users backups the DATA as we want
(-rw-rw).

I've just send a another mail as subject has been named 'RMAN User +
Permissions of IMAGES ??'. It is more detailed. If you can check it you'll
able to understand us better.

Thanks in advanced.

"rw" by owner should be no problem for RMAN backups (I assume you mean on the
oracle dbf files).

RMAN is an oracle utility, run by oracle, so only the oracle user needs to be
able to read the file.

Just make sure you permissions on the log directories are 777 (drwxrwxrwx) and
you'll be fine:

/usr/openv/netbackup/logs/bphdb

/usr/openv/netbackup/logs/dbclient

/usr/openv/netbackup/logs/user_ops

Hello,

We have used nb oracle agent to back up online oracle backups.

When we check the permission of the backup files, it is seen there is rw
permission on owner. There is no permission for group and other.

How can this permission be determined? Who is responsible for this? NetBackup &
RMAN & OS which one?

[Veritas-bu] RMAN User + Permissions of IMAGES

2009-02-09 Thread Servet Ince
Hello All,

I have a question about Oracle User;

When I check the image list by using bplist command, I see that 'oratpp' user
has backed up the FILES which seems like a member of Oratpp Group. The first
weird thing is we dont have a group as named 'Oratpp'. If you check the
'/etc/group' and '/etc/passwd' outputs below; you will see that 'Oratpp' user
is member of 'dba', 'oper' and 'sapsys'.

As you see below, it doesn't show the group column as 'dba'. I showld be
'Oratpp + dba', not 'Oratpp + Oratpp'.

I've cheked the 'umask' for Oratpp user and it is '006'. So the permissions
should be '660 (-rw-rw)' NOT '600 (-rw---) as seems.

We have many DB agents, just this one is weird.

We suggest that the permissions are '660' as it has to be, to Duplicate the
DATA to the another Oracle Client.

By the way, the DATABASE has been established under the HOME directory of
Oratpp user (/Oracle/TPP).

The one more information; when we run the Control Files backups by RMAN, the
permissions seem like 640.. It is better than other and looks enough for us.

All of the outputs are below.

Does anyone has any idea? Let me know please.

Many Thanks.

Hello Jim,

We have fixed the issue. The issue was, we were choosing the Oracle
Authentication when we were creating new template, and we were typing
the Service Name wrongly. Because we had to do this without DBAL Anyway
after we typed the TRUE Service name, this issue has been gone.

Many thanks for your concern.

Servet,

I have seen this same error several times. I have found that it is
usually caused by the reverse DNS entry missing. Generally the forward
DNS record is present but not the reverse.

To check this, make sure you can ping the master and media servers from
the client and that you can do both forward and reverse lookups between
the client and the master and media servers.

You can also try a user type of backup on the client and make sure that
it works.

Hello All,

I'm having this known error.

Oracle: 10g
Master: Solaris 10 - 6.0 MP6
Both of SAN Media Server - 6.0 MP6

We have 2 SAN media server, They are clustered (SUN Cluster). We are
backing the DB as separated via 2 instances. I mean we are not using
virtual hostname.

If anyone has experienced like this issue, let me know please.

Thanks in advanced.

I've seen the following messages in the bpdbsora log from client (it is
also SAN media server).

Re: [Veritas-bu] Best exclude list for Windows, solaris, linux ?

2008-12-05 Thread Servet Ince
Hi,

I've been trying to exclude something (.jpeg, .avi) on the windows
client, but It doesn't work, I don't know why!

If I give Full path including the file name, at that time it works.
Otherwise, like if I write '*.jpg'; it doesn't work:(

By the way; You should add more paths. There are 3 ways to do it;

1.) On the Client Properties from Master GUI. There is 'Exclude List'
under the Windows Client option.

2.) There is 'Client Properties' on Backup, Archive and Restore GUI at
Client site. There should be 'Exclude List'. You can add the path to
there.

3.) You can create a file under
'\InstallPath\ProgramFiles\Veritas\Netbackup' and name it as
'exclude_list' then put the path in it.

FYI.

Hi guys,

I was wondering what was your exlude list on Windows client?

I found only 1 mention of this on symantec site:
http://seer.entsupport.symantec.com/docs/182189.htm witch is :
C:\VERITAS\NetBackup\bin\bpdbm.lock
C:\VERITAS\NetBackup\bin\bprd.d\*.lock
C:\VERITAS\NetBackup\bin\bprd.lock
C:\VERITAS\NetBackup\bin\bpsched.d\*.lock
C:\VERITAS\Volmgr\misc\*

But i think that i can include more like:
c:\temp
c:\windows\temp

What else can be exlude for backup?Same question for Solaris, Linux
client :)

Re: [Veritas-bu] Catalog Recovery by Copy 2 media (Secondary)

2008-12-02 Thread Servet Ince
Hi All,

Sorry for late replay. It has run when we have changed the secondary
copy as primary copy. No need to do anything else more like changing
'DR' file. Just right click on Secondary copy and then do it as primary
copy, that's it.

FYI.

When I try the Catalog Recovery by Copy 1 (Primary), everything is OK,
it restores successfully as I want.

But when I try it by Cop2 (Secondary), It requests Copy1 Media! If I wan

But what I exact want is Recovering Catalog by Copy 2. Is there any way?

Hello,

I think there are some misunderstandings on my comment. I've meant too
many bugs are published by Symantec on 6.5.2

So, we don't usually advise it for big and complex environments. As Judy
said, It really depends on what you are doing with netbackup and how big
your environment. I advise the 6.5.1.

The mot important point is consistecy report. Ensure that there are no image,

The other importat point is, check that your library is supported or not by

anyone aware of any support issues/problems. Anything in particular I should
