[Veritas-bu] Backups showing up as empty directories

That is exactly correct and also exactly how it is configured already.

:\

Note that the other virtual server has other resources assigned to it that have
no problems what so ever.

[Veritas-bu] Backups showing up as empty directories

2010-06-14 Thread zimmy00

I tried using the physical node name instead of the virtual and it has the same
problems. It also seems that the only problem directories are the larger ones
that are shared out via the clusters. I don't know if that is relavent.

Ugh...ok I forgot that this isn't on a san anymore. They are physical drives
now. But that has been that way for a while and the problem just started 6
months ago.

Also, sometimes if I mess around with the client (failover / reboot clusters) I
can get it to do 1 good backup.

[Veritas-bu] Backups showing up as empty directories

2010-06-14 Thread zimmy00

I have Netbackup 6.5.5, windows master server, windows 2003 client.

Here is the set up

2 cluster nodes we will call a & b.

A has a SAN share of F
B has 2 SAN Shares labeled drive E and G.
E:\blah\ and G:\blah2\ are set up as shares in the clusters.

For some reason when I do backups I'm getting a successful result however it is
only backing up the top level directory on the cluster shares (blah and blah2).

I have Cross point mounts checked already and it still isn't working.

Also this has just started happening about 6 months ago. Nothing with the
server has changed and it was working before then.

[Veritas-bu] Can't upgrade past windows netbackup client 6.0

2010-02-19 Thread zimmy00

I have over 300 clients out there and out of those I can't seem to get a
handful of them upgraded past 6. Now I know that unlike 6 and before, 6.5
requires communication with the server, however there are no firewalls in the
way. And the servers backup with no problem with the older clients installed.
The only error I see in the logs is "Failed to connect to server. Error:
0x800401F0" and of course during the install the app says "Installation was
interupted".

I know it's not the master servers since they have no problem getting to other
clients. DNS is not an issue because the master is a unix server and I use the
hosts table. And as stated there are no firewalls in between. Anyone have any
idea's because I can't think of anything else.

This is happening on both 2000 and 2003 clients, I have ran it locally and
tried to push it from another client. I have ran it as administrator (run as)
and as an adminstrator account. There is no UPS software on these servers
(only article I could find on it).

[Veritas-bu] can't re-use older tapes with new library

2010-02-16 Thread zimmy00

Here is the problem. Some time ago we upgraded a library from an lto to lto3.
Now they scan differently and I set barcode rules to get the tape numbers to
match. The problem is that the older tapes are showing up as write protected.
I assume this is because the media id and the id that netbackup puts on the
tape do not match. I have tried to use re-label with both gui and command
line. I can't figure out how to get around this one.

p.s. None of the data on the tapes is needed. We just don't want to throw
away hundreds of LTO tapes.

[Veritas-bu] Change Media ID in Netbackup

2009-04-09 Thread zimmy00

You can do little changes like changing the tape type but changing the barcode
will make you not be able to restore the data on the tapes as is. You can
import the images on the tape after you change the tape barcodes but that is
going to be one LONG process

[Veritas-bu] Can't upgrade past 6.0 client

2009-04-08 Thread zimmy00

The problem is not with the OS type... it is the same 2000 and 2003 that I have
hundreds of other clients installed with. The error as well as the fact that
the older clients of netbackup (which don't require any real connection to the
master server to install) show that it probably has something to do with port
connections. There are no firewalls in between the servers and the master
servers have hundreds of other clients that installed and backup with no
problems so I know it's not the master servers. I have tried to upgrade from 6
(the latest version that works) as well as direct to 6.5 from clean and not
been able to.

So I'm trying to figure out if it is a problem with the port on the client
servers... how the heck can i figure out what is causing the problem?
