Re: [Veritas-bu] Any one upgrade to Veritas Netbackup 6.5.2 yet?

2008-09-04 Thread Deiter, Scott
We have upgraded from 5.1.4 to 6.5 and then .2 and then .2.a
I have never opened this many support requests with any softwhere vendor
before.

We still have two issues.
Running a solaris 9x64 master media server.
Policies at remote locations vanish. That is the directory in
/usr/openv/netbackup/db/class/xxx is deleted. I'm grateful that the
restore from tape function is still working rather well.

The creation of a media server on Windows 2008 has yet to be successful.
Permission errors caused the .2.a patch to fail, although the patch was
not installed netbackup could detect the tape drives but could not
create a storage unit on this remote media server. I had the domain
admin reinstall the product and the patch. Now the tape drives are not
visible to netbackup.

We've tested this now as well and it works fine...however, the data
seems to be decompressing as it's backed up from our centera.

Does anyone know what rate this decompression should ocurr at? I want a
full backup and have limited disk space to back it up to.

I believe that if you check the compatibility chart you'll see that this is
not yet supported - only Windows 2008 clients are currently supported. Win
2k8 as a server won't be supported until the next major release and that's
still a long way off (2nd half of '09).

I just love conflicting information. Although I trust the information
provided by this list more than the staff at symantec the fact that the
support staff has agreed to help with this issue and the pdf at

called

leads me to believe that a Window 2008 x64 can be used as a media server
at level 6.5.2.

God bless poor Ed he can't stay on top of everything!

My confidence level for a Solaris 9 64bit master working with a Windows
2008 media server is low despite the official Symantec support.

Good luck, and let us know how it goes!

 So far I've:

 Upgraded Netbackup to 6.5.2
Upgraded the Virtual Center to 2.5 Update 1

The only change so far is that before the updates the files
wouldn't remove themselves from the mount point but now

Re: [Veritas-bu] Any one upgrade to Veritas Netbackup 6.5.2 yet?

2008-06-18 Thread Martin, Jonathan
Have you tried restoring this data? I just did a quick perusal of the
data in preparation for a restore test and I can't seem to find the
registry. Since this was a file level backup I would assume we're
looking for:

c:\windows\system32\config\sam
c:\windows\system32\config\security
c:\windows\system32\config\software
c:\windows\system32\config\default
c:\windows\system32\config\system

But they are not there. I'm going to try a restore next after modifying
the registry to make sure it is restored.

I just tested switching the policy to Windows-NT this and it worked
fine. I'm kind of partial to using the flashbackup component though.
I'll continue working with Symantec support and see if I can get that
resolved. Good call!
