Re: [Veritas-bu] BMR implementation for two cluster servers

2010-09-28 Thread pranav batra

Hello Bahadir,

Thanks for all the valuable points.

Need to confirm one thing more :

1) Does BMR also support veritas file System:-Mean to say if system is down it
will boot the system ( OS) by BMR recovery process but does this revcovery also
recover the Veritas File System as it is and do we need to mention this
somewhere in the SRT?

Please let me know.

Thanks

Hi,

1) Have you installed BMR package and then created the BMR database? NBU 6.5.4
is the min version supporting BMR for master server running on RHEL5.
Download the BMR and BBS packages from the link below. You can install these
directly.

http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=contentid=TECH71200

2) No, it does not. You can use any system providing DHCP service. By the way,
you don't need to hava a boot server in physical. Boot server running in a VM
is supported.

3) You need to upgrade also BMR to 6.5.5 so it doesn't matter you perform it
now or later.

You need to have a Windows boot server in order to leverage BMR for Windows
based systems. Again, it can be VM. Instructions are clearly defined in BMR
Admin Guide and it's a straihtforward procedure.

We have to implement BMR for our two critical server( Windows 2003).
They get backed up by our master server which is Linux 2.6 RHEL5.-Netbackup
6.5.4.

Now we are thinking to implement BMR for these so that we do not have to load
OS manually .
As per us we need:

1) We have to make master server BMR master server too:-We have licence but the
BMR is not highlighted in the console.
Even not showing in additional products of Unix options ?
2) We have to create one BMR boot servers and we are planning for PXE boot
So, do this boot server need to be DHCP server?
3) Shall we upgrade our master server to 6.5.5 prior to implementing BMR as we
have to do it next month anyways.

How to correctly setup a Shared resource tree to recover Windows 2003box with
netbackup 6.5.5

Please advise and let us know any additional things that we should take care
prior to or while implemeting BMR

No (it least not in NBU 7).

For Red Hat 4.x (x64) and Red Hat 5.x (x64), the following fie systems are
supported: EXT2, EXT3, Reiserfs
